3-0 out of 5 stars The Dearly Beloved & the Departed
It's a tale of the living & the dead coming together in holy matromony in Tim Burton's "Corpse Bride" In the gothic era of the 19th century in Europe a young man named Victor Van Dort inadvertally reserects a young woman while practing his vows & asumes he is her husband. It's a brilliant comical & romantic vision of the undead & the living, pure genius this film is. Featuring the voice talents of Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Michael Gough & Christopher Lee. See Tim Burton's terrific movie of love between life & death

4-0 out of 5 stars With This Ring...
Shy Victor's parents arrange a marriage for him, thinking that he will never marry on his own.His parents are newly rich, so they immediately want to pair him up with someone from old money. They arrange the marriage to Victoria, a young woman who's just as quiet and retiring as Victor. But somehow, in the space of a few minutes, true love ignites between the two.As soon as it does, however, the fates conspire to keep them apart.First Victor can't remember his vows. Then the priest sends him away, saying that Victor doesn't want to marry. Then, when Victor finally practices his vows (thinking he's by himself) and gets them right, he ends up married to a young dead woman who was murdered for her dowry years ago.
5-0 out of 5 stars Tim Burton at his best!!!
Just like Tim Burton to create such a wonderful masterpiece for an animated movie! Beautiful music! Great plot! and such a great success this movie turned out to be! I saw this in theaters and I loved it! I still can't belive it didn't get the oscar for best animated movie. Wallace and Grommit got it. I am really dissapointed. I've asked alot of people whether this of Wallace and is better and I got alot of responses saying that this was better so it just doesn't make any sense at all why this great movie didn't win. But I still think it should have won and I still love this movie. It's one of Tim Burton's best movies ever. Just like the Nightmare Before Christmas, but even better. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars a hoot for kids, enjoyable for adults
The animals are charming, the characters are... well, characters, and the plot is comical. There was nothing in the film that made me laugh out loud - but there are very clever scenes that made me smile and think to myself, "that's clever!" As the owner of a rabbit, I was tickled to see the film, as there aren't many bunny characters out there... but I must say, there were no behaviors of the bunnies that made me think they studied rabbits at length before rendering them. Wallace & Gromit have a humane pest control company, called Anti-Pesto. They use clamps around rabbits' necks to retrieve them. I know this is 'just' an animated film, but this is not a humane way in which to handle a rabbit. Children should be given the notion that rabbits can be picked up in this manner any more than you should pick up a child by the neck. I do like the cute way in which the bunnies are rendered, nonetheless.
4-0 out of 5 stars Cute, Funny, But sometimes slow
The title says it all. The movie had interesting and funny parts. However, the outcome was somewhat predictable. Lots of parts are funny because they relate to things adults can understand. Other parts would be funny to kids. Overall, it is not a bad movie to rent, but not something to be bought and watched over and over again (at least by 30 something year olds).

3-0 out of 5 stars Cracking toast, Grommit!
Very cute concept, adorable bunnies, funny characters.Perfect for kiddies but too long for adults. This type of movie should be 1 hour long.Of course, Grommit is smarter than Wallace. But, I miss the criminal penguin character.Enjoy! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Tim Burton's Masterpiece is comin' back in 3D
It was the Nightmare before Christmas & all through the towns people will go to see Tim Burton's frightningly holly jolly triumph in 3D, the characters you love, the songs you love, the frights & seasons greetings you love as Walt Disney Pictures welcomes back Jack Skellington, Sally, Mayor, Ooogie Boogie, Sandy Claus & Zero. The Nightmare Before Christmas is back in 3D, go see it

2-0 out of 5 stars ALL BARK NO BITE - ALL FAÇADE NO INTERIOR - SQUARES WILL LIKE IT
If your into something slick, high tech and Disney like you'll probably love this. Really. Go for it. It's five stars for you. You will love it.
4-0 out of 5 stars Probably a 5
This movie takes all the clamation classics I remember as a kid and turns them upside down like only Tim Burton can.A twisted tale of the characters of Halloween town taking over Christmas after kidnapping Santa Claus.Though some of the characters are a little frightening for the young ones, the tone is mostly upbeat and funny. This is a charming, though very short movie. The dvd itself is loaded with great extras and worth the price two times over. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars It's 'Hunky Dory'
By 'Hunky Dory' I mean the awesome David Bowie album that is sampled throughout the film.Like that album, this is a very quirky and other-worldly affair. There are 307 reviews here of wildly varying opinions and after seeing the movie, I am not surprised.I couldn't even tell fans of 'Rushmore' or 'Tannenbaums' if they will like this.My personal experience is this.I think it will be one of those movies that I will return to someday and wonder why I didn't appreciate it the first time. That's the best I got.View at your own risk.Sorry I couldn't help you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Movie
I really liked this movie for its subtle humor, creativity, and visuals. If you found this movie too boring then you are a fool who should stick to comedies like Dumb and Dumber. Intelligent comedies aren't for unintelligent people.

4-0 out of 5 stars "The Life Aquatic" revels in Bill Murray's twilight melancholy
I am a huge fan of Wes Anderson's debut effort, "Rushmore."It was one of the most original, well-written, soulful comedies about teenage life (and our inability to grow beyond it) that I'd ever seen. And "Rushmore" also had a great cast, led by perhaps my favorite actor of all time, Bill Murray.

2-0 out of 5 stars I remember seeing this movie
I saw this movie when I was in elementary school. We went on a field trip. We went to a park after the movie. I was waiting in line to use the restroom and I shouted at one of the teachers for not letting me use it before before we left the park. My teacher did not like my behavior and she told me to owe the person an apology and I refused. As result I was not allowed to go on their field trip with them. I was 11 at that time, but I'm 21 now.

5-0 out of 5 stars Marvelous chickens
Chicken and English accents - what a great combination! This is a wonderful, fun and entertaining movie that keeps even the most "mature" adult giggling with delight. The story is simple and the ending obvious, but who cares when the dialogs and the humor are so wonderful. The animation is striking with the chicken and human characters made out of clay, while some of the nature scenes seem truly realistic. And who would have thoughts that chickens can have such cute and interesting personalities. There is the heroic chicken, the fearful chicken, the nerdy chicken, the dumb chicken and two very amusing roosters. It is truly enjoyable to see the chickens argue about Americans vs British, working hard to lay eggs and meet their work quota, dancing the night away and searching for their own communal piece of chicken heaven. Many of the themes are taken from "classic" escape movies, such as the spirit to escape together and leave no one behind, the various attempts to do so, the planning, the great idea, the nerve-wrecking escape that almost does not seem to work and finally the enjoyment of having worked together to find chicken freedom at a bird sanctuary.(I hope I did not give away too much, but this movie is truly about dialogs and adapted scenes.)
5-0 out of 5 stars Chicken Run
It's about these chickens who want to escape the barn.Every time they try, they get caught and put back in the barn. When a chicken named Rocky (voiced by Mel Gibson) escaped from the circus and joined the coop, he teaches all the chickens how to fly.In the end they end up not flying out of the coop, but they build a what-looks-like an airplane, to escape the barn.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great animation movie!
Old fashioned entertainment, superbly crafted by the Lord & Park duo.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pingu in Europe
Pingu comes from Switzerland and has been loved in Europe for many many years.I am delighted it has now come to the US and I can now buy a DVD instead of using my olddual video recorder!Pingu is delightful and is sometimes very naughty! The great thing is kids and adults can relate to it.My father loves Pingu and all my children do to!Enjoy all of the episodes!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hillarious life lessons for all ages to enjoy
Our 18 month old got a hand-me-down video from her older cousins. It was Pingu "Artic Antics", a claymation video about penguins going about life as we do.At first it seemed odd which made us keep watching. The characters have their own odd language but each one has so much personality. There are several short stories which are easy to follow. They are funny situations with good values and life lessons. They are very creative stories about Pingu, his baby sister Pinga and his penguin family and friends. Our two year old wants to watch it everyday and we love it too.Since there isn't much talking, it is easy for her to fall asleep watching it at night. We now have bought 'Meet Pingu' and 'Chillin' with Pingu' which we love.We would buy all the Pingu DVD's if they were available.

5-0 out of 5 stars Little children don't need menu.
I love Pingu Dvds since I put them in the dvd and they play over and over again. This way I can do my work without my children calling me to play the next episode. And besides - the episodes are very short, so you don't need menu or anything. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Jan Svankmajer is amazing.
Jan Svankmajer is a very clever animator and director. It seems that most of the negative reviews come from small minded people who are not impressed because his style is very "non-hollywood".
5-0 out of 5 stars A Most Stunning Visual Treatfor the Curioser and the Curioser
Most live action takes on the timeless, beautifully surreal classic Alice in Wonderland are replete with the unfortunate burden of having live actors zipped up in hokey animal suits. Said actors then act accordingly to fit their silly, hokey suits, in a result that only the most bored of pre-teens will ever find the movie any bit entertaining.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Movie

This is my favorite band line-up of Frank's, too bad I never got to see it in person (saw him in 1981 at the Fox Theater in Atlanta). IS there a better drummer than Terry Bozzio?!?!? I don't think so. And, with Frank's obsessive recording and filming, I wish they would release more video of this band.

i would like to point out, to mister Michael Mikesell, that, pertaining to your "under the influence" comment in the review, that Zappa was VERY vehemently anti-drug and very rarely drank aside from the occasional beer, he was just a very strange individual, and that's the only thing you can possibly describe him as is an in-di-vid-ual, a term that has lost it's meaning in today's day and age. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Bob the Builder A Christmas to Remember
My 5 year old watches this tape over and over.He especially likes Elton John's song. When it comes on the radio, he says that's the "Bob the builder christmas song".

5-0 out of 5 stars We can build it...every night!
My three-year-old son has loved this movie more than any other Bob the Builder video for more than a year. He cannot take his eyes off of it-and it's a fairly long show. Luckily, it's entertaining enough for the whole family to watch with interest. We highly recommend this for Bob enthusiasts and first-timers.

My 2 1/2 year-old son received this dvd as a Christmas gift and LOVES it! It's now February and he still asks to watch it frequently. It is well-produced and entertaining so we don't mind watching it as well. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Miserable waste of time and money
Sacrilege and profanity are not appropriate for children's films. This film has plenty of both. The claymation was cute, but the content was very disappointing.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Animation that should have broad appeal
Although The Adventures of Mark Twain is a Claymation extravaganza, it shouldn't be thought of as just kids' fare--in fact, much of the subject matter is not only intelligent on an adult level but also a bit dark. The premise is that three youngsters--Tom, Huck and Becky from The Adventures of Tom Sawyer--stow away on a fantastic lighter-than-air craft piloted by Mark Twain, who was born during a year when Halley's Comet visited our atmosphere and is trying to join up with it during one of its return visits. As he puts it, the Lord noted that those two freaks of nature came in together, and they should go out together. Along the way, the kids start to question the outcome of the trip and plot to hijack the ship. They also encounter several of Twain's short stories that are dramatized as subplots, a couple of which end up revealing crucial aspects of Twain's own character. The Clamation effects are a knockout, highly imaginative, and the plot has more substance than you might think on first approaching it. You might want to view it with your youngest children, since there are some potentially frightening considerations of mortality. Overall, however, most viewers should find it highly entertaining.

5-0 out of 5 stars Greatest Family Film Ever Made!
I remember this movie from when I was a child. With the advent of DVD I scrambled to get every movie that I recalled fondly, only to be let down. Everything that I found to be great when I was 10, I found terrible now that I am 30.

5-0 out of 5 stars my favorite puppet movie!
This movie is so great! comparable to the rudolph and santa claus is coming to town movies, but a little less christmassy and a little more wintery, its good even into february!its about the winter spirit jack frost who sees a pretty girl and decides that he wants to be human. he has to collect a bag of gold , a horse, a house and a wife by a certain time or he doesnt get to stay human. of course you have the bad guy trying to marry the girl also and generally being evil, and the other winter spirits are so cute!if you liked the other puppet christmas movies you'll like this one.if you've ever watched the christmas specials on tv you might even have already seen parts of it.my kids love this one as much as i do, and its a winter tradition in our house. ... Editorial Review

This 1983 film adaptation of Kenneth Grahame's classic novel remains faithful to the spirit and prose of the original tale as it brings to life the timeless adventures of Rat, Mole, Badger, and Toad. Viewers familiar with the book, set in early 20th-century Britain, will at once be charmed by stop-motion animation's exquisite renderings of this quartet of friends. Bespectacled Mole, a shy yet inquisitive chap who detests spring cleaning, joins kind-hearted Ratty and the two set off for a day on the river. Their journey leads them to the home of venerable Badger, their stern yet sagacious comrade. Of course, the star of the show is irrepressible Toad, who steers himself into all sorts of mischief because of a motor car obsession. From Wild Wood to Toad Hall, the story pulsates with exuberance, punctuated with lively songs and dialogue taken directly from the pages of the beloved children's story. The British voiceovers are delectable, especially David Jason's Toad. (Ages 6 and older) Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars finally!
My sisters and I watched this on the Disney channel in the early 80's and loved it.We had taped it and wore the tape out.I was thrilled to find it here on DVD through A&E since the ones I found on Ebay were Region 2 and not compatible with the DVD players here.I highly recommend this movie, my sisters and I still adore it and I can't wait to receive it and watch it with my son!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wind in the Willows
I enjoyed this as a book, a child and I enjoyed this near faithful DVD version of the story as well. The voices of such distinguished actors made the animation spectacular.I was amused at the comments on bad language. What else do you call a "A vain, self-important, silly, or aggressively stupid person".Still everyone to their own opinion. Children of all ages will love this warm delightful story, and most grownups will as well.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best rendition of this tale ever!
Excellent for all ages; really a fine recreation of the classic tale...stop-motion a tad "dated" technically, but that's a minor niggle- the characters and sets are absolutely fabulously detailed and evocative in any case! This one's a 'must-have'...

5-0 out of 5 stars Captured audience.
A delight for young children and adults.Safe to have children watch alone but more fun together!

4-0 out of 5 stars Amazing short films
The Wallace & Gromit shorts are marvels of clay animation with wonderfully silly plots.I wasn't aware that the original versions had been tampered with until reading some of the other reviews on this page.Such actions always bother me--I'd much prefer to see the film the way the creator intended it.Nevertheless, there is still plenty to enjoy here. The cheerful lunacy of Nick Park's world shines through. The highlight is "A Close Shave." ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Unique film
It's based on a Czech fairy tale called "Greedy Guts". A woman badly wants a baby but both she and her husband are sterile. One day her husband digs up a tree root and it looked a little like a person. So he carved it to make it look more like a baby as a joke (seems like a sick one to me) and gave it to her. The mentally unbalanced wife immediately fell in love with the ugly piece of wood and treated as a baby. This "baby" comes to life and boy is it hungry! The little girl who lives in the same building notices stuff going on and finds the truth in a book of fairy tales. She wants to save little Otik and does her darnedest.
5-0 out of 5 stars Dry wood of impotence
"Little Otik" is chiefly a film about uncontrolled appetite masked by a Czech fairy tale.Svankmajer does a great job of concealing his real intention--that of unsettling the viewer, forcing him/her to recognize the essentially animal nature of hunger, affection, and the functions of Eros in general--and Little Otik, the revolting little tree that could go toe to toe with Lynch's "Mutant Baby" anyday, is the archetype for his unmasking of humanity's absurd plight.
1-0 out of 5 stars I'd Give It Zero Stars If I Could
This "movie" was the worst thing I've seen in ages!It was stupid, gory, and long. I couldn't force myself to make it to the end, but what I did sit through was terrible!I don't know what movie everyone else saw, but this thing really stunk!A woman wants a baby, her husband makes one out of wood.It comes alive, eats the cat and neighbors, leaving blood and bones - then, a little girl "befriends" it. I kid you not.The "animation" is pathetic, and the story is putrid. Excuse me, as I will now go and try to erase it from my memory! P.U.! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Sunday Morning Nostalgia
I remember watching these shorts as a little girl. I bought this volume primarily for "Christmas Lost and Found," which I remembered fondly, but found myself watching some of the other sequences and enjoying them. I particularly like that, although love of God is frequently mentioned, the real emphasis is on being a good person and doing good deeds, not pushing a particular religion.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Memories From My Childhood
I remember seeing Davey and Goliath episodes as a child over 30 years ago. It is a pleasure to get these for my own children. The simple stop-action films continue to capture attention - even in this age of CGI. I highly recommend this product and I am thrilled with the simple moral messages children learn from these stories.

Editorial Review

The model animation techniques in this 1968 Rankin and Bass TV chestnutare primitive by today's standards, and picky kids may reject them out of hand. The story, however, which elaborates on the popular Christmas song about a shepherd boy who plays his drum for the baby Jesus and makes the animals dance, is a little more tough-minded than you might expect. The kid begins the story as what we'd now call a neglected child, a surly urchin who says he hates all people. He's pulled back from the brink, first by learning to make music, and then by his encounter with the Christ child. The underlying message alone--that everybody has something worth contributing--qualifies the show for holiday-perennial status. The big-name voice performers, Jose Ferrer and Greer Garson (who narrates), may be a little too ponderous for the occasion, but the familiar cartoony tones of Paul Frees (aka Boris Badenov) and June Forey (aka Rocket J. Squirrel) help liven up the proceedings. It's only 23 minutes long, so it's worth a shot for younger children.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great show
I saw this when I was a little girl in the '60's and it became my favorite Christmas story. It's story about how someone who is abandoned and mistreated can soften their hearts and become wise when confronted with the truth of Jesus' birth.
5-0 out of 5 stars Unforgettable Movie!
This movie is one of the most meaningful, cheerful movies you'll probably ever see at Christmas time. The story is about a young
5-0 out of 5 stars BEAUTIFUL YULETIDE YARN WITH STOP-ACTION ANIMATION THAT GETS KIDS ATTENTION
This is a sweet story, about a poor little drummer boy who can only offer a gift of song to the baby Jesus. Even toddlers are quick to notice the stop-action animation and the distinctive soundtrack that was recorded by the Vienna Boys Choir. Our toddler called it "Camel" as he loved to see the dancing animals which of course included a dancing Camel.
