4-0 out of 5 stars Loved the dog!
Why take life so seriously? "The Triplets of Bellville" is simply delightful. The movie took me to a fanciful place for a couple hours packed with quirky scenery, emotions and laughs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Un-expected entertainment
Movie was stimulating and funny. All aspects of life, entertainment, training, eating, music, and more are wonderfully presented. I was glad to add this to my collection.

4-0 out of 5 stars Creative and delightful
We saw this movie in the theatre when it first came out, and loved it so much we added it to our collection. The artwork is awesome, and the fact that it is in French and subtitles are not needed is a good indication of the quality of the visual story, making dialog superfluous.Truly a movie for all ages.

5-0 out of 5 stars Shaolin Soccer
I thought the movie had great action. There also, was a little comedy here and there.

4-0 out of 5 stars This movie is deserving of a better DVD
I love this movie. This and Kung Fu Hustle are among my favorite kung fu flicks of all time. The story is absolutely absurd but the movie is so much fun that I could care less. It's funny, touching and inspired, with some instances of cheesy special effects and strange humor laced throughout. If you liked Kung Fu Hustle at all, you have to watch this film. It's that simple.

5-0 out of 5 stars Jan Svankmajer is amazing.
Jan Svankmajer is a very clever animator and director. It seems that most of the negative reviews come from small minded people who are not impressed because his style is very "non-hollywood".
5-0 out of 5 stars A Most Stunning Visual Treatfor the Curioser and the Curioser
Most live action takes on the timeless, beautifully surreal classic Alice in Wonderland are replete with the unfortunate burden of having live actors zipped up in hokey animal suits. Said actors then act accordingly to fit their silly, hokey suits, in a result that only the most bored of pre-teens will ever find the movie any bit entertaining.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Movie
From the moment the stuffed dead rabbit ripped the nails out of his paws and spit them out I was hooked. This is a hilarious movie. Even more so if it was made for kids.

2-0 out of 5 stars LONG forced trailers before the movie starts!
Popped the DVD into my Denon DVD player and it started playing VERY long opening trailers...which you could NOT skip.Only buttons on the remote that worked were eject, stop, and power off.
4-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Driving Scenes
For fans of Japanese cars & drift racing this is a must.
5-0 out of 5 stars D rocks
Guys look I know that by the reviews that the movie is not like the manga anime series but for what it is the movie is a fun action comedy that you can enjoy. Aleast you don't have to dramatize it into a life or death situaition like the Fast and Furious series has beeen doing. This has cool racing scenes and sweet cars doing the best drifting i've ever seen. And not to mention the comidic side of this story works and Anthony Wong is the man. If you hate this movie just because it did not stay true to the anime then you are being unfair to this movie. This is a fun film to watch and you will find it refreshing to see as Initial D will take you to the wildest drift of your life. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Oh my
I like kenshin i really do but this movie just...upset me. I like the funny cracks and jokes but it just kept on with the flashbacks. Alot more gore...if I wanted to see that I would have watched the OVA version. I don't like the way it jumped around...sigh.

5-0 out of 5 stars Samurai X The Motion Picture
I saw Samurai X on Cartoon Network. So I picked up a copy. The DVD come with front end trailers. Kenshin must take up his sword once again. To stop the fall up the Meiji Government. The uncut version of this movie is even better. There are many swords fights in this movie. If you love Rorouni Kenshin this is the Movie to get.
2-0 out of 5 stars Good, but not the quality I think it deserves
Let's get this out in the open:I love Kenshin, I've read the whole manga, own the first 2 arcs of the anime, and both OVA's.This movie had high potential to be good, but poor subtitling and voice acting ruined it for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars a perfect movie
This is a beautiful, funny, sarcastic, and sweet film.
5-0 out of 5 stars A lot like Fantasia, but with more emotion.
I first saw this movie while in college and thought it was a great "date movie".It has all of the brilliant animation set to beautiful classical music that Disney's Fantasia has, but it also has much more emotional depth. While Fantasia is great (and I love it, too), Allegro non Troppo really puts you through an emotional roller coaster ride with moments ranging from very funny to very sad and everything in between. It's a great addition to anyone's dvd collection because it's not only very entertaining, but it's also sure to be different than anything else you already have.A great change of pace from the humdrum and normal.I recommend it highly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tragic, beautiful, captivating anime
I watched this first, then bought the TV series, which is quite enjoyable, and not quite as dark and depressing as this movie. However, the art work is just beautiful, and the voice acting is well done. The power of the Samurai code and of love itself is palpable in this film, and I will watch it many more times!

5-0 out of 5 stars Words of Advice
Okay where to begin. First off for the two of you who don't know Samurai X are the oavs that are extensions to the manga Rurouni Kenshin. The reason it is not named that is because the animated version ofthe tale is published by a different company. Trust and Betrayal takes place during the main characters youth. Though the movie can be watched seperately it is best enjoyed after watching the first and second season of the anime series or the first 15 or so mangas volumes.
5-0 out of 5 stars Not so much a review but a warning ...
I'd like potential buyers to know that this particular version - the 2003 release "Samurai X - Trust & Betrayal (Director's Cut)" is completely missing the music track.

4-0 out of 5 stars Unique film
It's based on a Czech fairy tale called "Greedy Guts". A woman badly wants a baby but both she and her husband are sterile. One day her husband digs up a tree root and it looked a little like a person. So he carved it to make it look more like a baby as a joke (seems like a sick one to me) and gave it to her. The mentally unbalanced wife immediately fell in love with the ugly piece of wood and treated as a baby. This "baby" comes to life and boy is it hungry! The little girl who lives in the same building notices stuff going on and finds the truth in a book of fairy tales. She wants to save little Otik and does her darnedest.
5-0 out of 5 stars Dry wood of impotence
"Little Otik" is chiefly a film about uncontrolled appetite masked by a Czech fairy tale.Svankmajer does a great job of concealing his real intention--that of unsettling the viewer, forcing him/her to recognize the essentially animal nature of hunger, affection, and the functions of Eros in general--and Little Otik, the revolting little tree that could go toe to toe with Lynch's "Mutant Baby" anyday, is the archetype for his unmasking of humanity's absurd plight.
1-0 out of 5 stars I'd Give It Zero Stars If I Could
This "movie" was the worst thing I've seen in ages!It was stupid, gory, and long. I couldn't force myself to make it to the end, but what I did sit through was terrible!I don't know what movie everyone else saw, but this thing really stunk!A woman wants a baby, her husband makes one out of wood.It comes alive, eats the cat and neighbors, leaving blood and bones - then, a little girl "befriends" it. I kid you not.The "animation" is pathetic, and the story is putrid. Excuse me, as I will now go and try to erase it from my memory! P.U.! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Confusing at first, but powerful.
Millennium Actress (Satoshi Kon, 2001)
5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, rich and rewarding
The story of the great Japanese actress Chiyoko is a very moving and interesting one. She is a kind of "everyman" - all things to all people and a real hero, too.
5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!!
I am somewhat new to Anime, and I have been very lucky with the ones that I have seen so far.Bubble-gum girls. sci-fi ninja-action flix really don't have very much appeal to me.And although the hentai films are quite "amusing" they really serve a different function than what I usually look for in a movie. Thus I was very pleased at how amazing this film was.Millenium Actress feels like a normal movie that just happens to be animated.I won't go into all the details of the plot, but I will just comment that the plot was excellent, very adult but not "adult", the characters were good, and of course the visual elements were astounding. This movie doesn't have the Disney-esque feel that movies like Steamboy (which I didn't care for), in fact it felt more like watching an Oscar worthy picture. If you don't like ninjas, busty girls, vampires or robots and are still curious to check out anime, Millenium Actress is a fine place to see the amazing potential of this artform. So far it's right up there with Spirited Away in my book. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars quite simply crap
This was one of the worst movies I have seen in a long time.It felt like an 80's flick with some BAD animation. For one thing the intro is tremedously long. This movie sucked and you should not waste your money

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Breaking of Predictability
Jan Svankmajer's Faust is undoubtedly an aggressively disturbing movie. This in no way detracts from the film, however; indeed, it constitutes perhaps the central thematic point of this cinematographic rendering of the original Faust tale. The disturbing facets of this film seem to represent a modernization of the original's ability to shock and discommode its audience - the tropes of the 16th century, no longer applicable to the modern audience, are here replaced wholesale with more appropriate, more modern shocks and unbalancing depictions. This effect is primarily achieved through the problematization of our relationship to the every-day world and its objects.
5-0 out of 5 stars pure poetry
This is such a wonderfully imaginative blending of various Faust stories, a kind of commentary on Faust as cultural icon. Amazing that such a thing could appear in the late Twentieth Century when few could reference all the references, when even the Faust phenomenon is fading. The use of puppets and stop-motion--the imagery overall-- is exceptional. This is Svankmajer's "Late Quartets" or "Missa Solemnis"--a grand uncompromising statement by a great artist. Recommended to those who have the patience, maturity, and good fortune to be able to appreciate such complex and demanding works of art. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A colorful glimpse into art from another country
I really, really enjoyed this collection.Yuri Norstein's shorts, "Hedgehog in the Fog" in particular, are absolutely incredible. The kind of depth he can create with only two dimensions to work with is truly impressive. Also prepare to be amazed by "Butterfly" and "Ballerina on the Boat."

Yes my Amazon name is a nod, if not an outright ripoff, from the Y. Norstein short included here. This disc is awesome! Norstein, the Miyazaki of Russia, is featured in this disc with four of his films represented here. I gain so much joy from watching these shorts. 4-0 out of 5 stars "This kid has the eyes of one who has killed thousands".
Ogammi has to track down and kill a nude female assassin for our viewing pleasure in the 4th installment of the LW and C series. Once again, Tomisaburo Wakayama puts on one of the greatest acting performances I have ever seen. In this one we find out the reason that Ogami's house was always meant to be destroyed from the day he was appointed as the Shogun's second. Of course the Yagyu are involved and of course you are guaranteed to see some of the greatest action ever when Ogami slices up everybody in the super long final fight. One thing that you find out in this movie is that Ogami Itto is not invincible. That certainly makes things more interesting.

5-0 out of 5 stars Masterpiece of perversion, the fetish movie to end all fetishes
In his most original (at least from what I've seen), very different from his other films, most disturbing yet most hilarious film, the great magician Jan Svankmajer, animator-surrealist from Prague, makes his modern-day city the setting for the story of six ordinary people with extraordinary fantasies. The film that acknowledges as inspirations Sigmund Freud, Max Ernst, Luis Bunuel (the admitted fetishist himself) and the Marquis De Sade (all of them I am sure would love it) portrays the strange world of hidden fetishes that can be found in the most unexpected places. Three men and three women encounter one another through the day and exchange the knowing glances even though some of them don't even know each other but there is a certain connection and they feel it. They all are "conspirators of pleasure" who spend the most part of the film meticulously, painstakingly and creatively inventing methods, tools and constructions for fulfilling their bizarre fantasies. We will observe chicken suit with the wings made of umbrellas. There is a woman-post worker with a fetish for bread. She rolls up balls of bread and sucks them up her nose through a straw (honestly, not my idea of fun but hey, you should see the look at her face). There are unusual brushes made up of rolling pins, pan lids, and stolen pieces of fur that one man, the detective rubs over his body while his wife, the TV news-person feels neglected and buys some live carp that she strokes and feeds them the bread balls which were delivered by the post worker. The TV lady has no idea that she's been an object of a newsagent- guy's desire. He constructed the machine that consisted of several mechanic arms which can hug, stroke, rub, pull...gently while he watches her on TV and reaches his climax at the same time as she does helped by her carps but I am going to stop right here and only add that "some of our most exciting sexual experiences take place entirely within the minds of other people." (Roger Ebert - not about "Conspirators of Pleasure" but I thought it'd fit perfectly here) 4-0 out of 5 stars A Mailcarrier's Childish Phantasy?
Excellent! What a storyteller! I had only seen Jan's short "Food" before this, and so had a predisposition to see this film in a mirthful light. I agree with the Surrealist classification, in that it reminds me of Bunuel's "L'Age Dor"; long introductory scenes that achieve the necessary mundane boredom to launch the ensuing bizareness. A man kissing a tv and spitting out water; Yeah!
5-0 out of 5 stars BAT WINGS & BREAD BALLS

I CAN'T EVEN BEGIN TO DESCRIBE HOW BEAUTIFULLY FILMED THIS IS.. THE CINEMATOGRAPHY IN THE STOP ANIMATION SCENES IS PHENOMENAL! ONE OV MY FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT THIS FILM IS THERE IS ABSOLUTLY NO DIALOUGE IN IT, WHICH GIVES BRINGS YOU CLOSER INTO THE MIND OV WHAT EACH PERSON IS OBSESSING ABOUT! BRILLIANT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!! This selection of Yugoslavian animation is enjoyable viewing.I noticed a review for one of the other collections gripes about this work not coming close enough to shows like "The Simpsons".This disc is not recommended for an audience expecting American TV animation. It is, however, potentially very interesting viewing for students of international animation and fillm.

5-0 out of 5 stars true masters
This is like watching a children's book come to life. If you enjoy the imagery of illustration, than this series is for you. Yuri Norstein dominates this collection with "Tale of Tales", one of the best animated shorts in the history of animation.Every one of these shorts is amazing and I would recommend it to any parent, librarian, teacher, or educator that wants to show something better that the corporate, lifeless animation that is being produced today. This has heart it every cell!

4-0 out of 5 stars A forgotten era
I really enjoyed these old Soviet-era shorts. People who don't understand the millieu will probably scratch their heads and not follow a few stories too well. (Even my fourty-something wife needed a brief explanation of the mindset behind the first one.) Russian humour is also somewhat different than our Western humour. 1-0 out of 5 stars Rather inconsequential...
This release did nothing at all for me. The storylines are weak and the art is dated and mediocre. These shorts strike me as the Soviet equivalent of those crufty, ephemeral 8mm films you find at flea markets and in the storerooms of elementary school libraries. Masterworks these are not.

5-0 out of 5 stars Da, Da, Russia!
A great anthology of animated films from a country with a rich (yet often hidden) sense of humour. The films range from the Soviet system bashing of "Man in the Frame" & "There Lived Kozyavin" tomorality plays such as "Ball of Wool" and "GlassHarmonica" to the delightful silliness of "Film, Film, Film"& "The Passion of Spies". These films provide a rare glimpseinto the REAL world of the Soviet Union of the sixties. A rich compilationcertain to please anyone who appreciates wit & wisdom in animation. ... Read more

A little dog leaves the title character by the side of a road, wondering whyits exists. Over the course of several months, Poo meets a leaf, a hen, and alump of soil, who assures it, "God has not created you for no reason." Butlittle Poo feels rejected until a dandelion sprout accepts it as fertilizer. Themessage that even the humblest have a place in creation is a worthy one, butRead more

2-0 out of 5 stars A crappy movie about crap
I am never usually harsh, but its about a terd. Does he find a purpose? Yes, in 'dying' for a flower. Lol, i got it because I though it was funny, but it's serious.
5-0 out of 5 stars a tender and moving story
This is a wonderful story that my child and I loved watching together. It is a tender and moving tale that we have watched over and over again. At first the title made me a little skeptical to say the least, but after hearing the first part of the music introduction I knew this would be a favorite for years to come.

5-0 out of 5 stars A charming animation sure to please children and adults.
The kids will appreciate the title; the parents will appreciate the content. This is a wonderful animation using the age-old stop motion technique. All I can say is my child loves it and, well, so do I. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good DVD for Michelle Yeoh fans
Pretty good action sequences, and like the other reviews state, a LOT of "wire fu"-but this isn't a bad thing necessarily. There are some unique attacks that the characters use that you won't find in other kung fu films. The only problem I had was that the story seemed to jump around a little, so it didn't flow as well as it could-or probably should have.

4-0 out of 5 stars EQ-Michelle Fan
It is a great martial arts movie. The story line is a little weak but the choreography on swordsplay and martial arts is excellent. Michelle Yeoh is outstanding as always with her grace, acrobatic style and skill in martial arts. A worthwhile DVD collection if you are a martial arts fan.

2-0 out of 5 stars WHAT???????
This movie definitely had the potential to be gteat, the action scenes are pretty good. But the love story in this movie seems like even the actors were dozing off during there own scenes.
