5-0 out of 5 stars THE OTHER GREAT ONE.......
JACKIE GLEASON WAS THE GREAT ONE, BUT WITHOUT A DOUBT ALFRED HITCHCOCK WAS IN THE 1950'S IS MY EARLIEST MEMORY OF SUNDAY NIGHTS AT 10 PM. HITCHCOCK PRESENTS IS WITHOT MATCH WHEN IT CAME TO A FORRUNNER OF ROD SERLING AND THE TWILIGHT ZONE. HITCHCOCK'S PRICELESS DRY WIT AND CALM ENGLISH MANNER AT THE BEGINING AND END OF THE EPISODES MADE THE WATCHING ALL THE BETTER. HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ANY ONE WHO LOVES A TWISTED TALE OF NOT ALWAYS SEEING IS BELIEVING. 5 STARS TO UNIVERSAL FOR THIS RELEASE IN 5 DISCS, CLEAR, CRISP, NO FREEZE UP, GLORIOUS IN B&W.

4-0 out of 5 stars No more dual sided discs! Yea!
The second season of "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" arrives on DVD a year after the first set. I suspect Universal wanted to gage the reaction from fans before moving forward with future sets. Luckily Universal has abandoned the dual sided dual layered discs that they had many manufacturing problems with on the first season set. Instead they've opted for single sided dual layered DVDs. We get five DVDs housed in a boxed set the same size as the first (with the same cover design but with the title card in green vs. blue). As before the episodes are listed on the inside and out flaps of the cardboard holder. Unfortunately none of them list which ones were directed by Hitchcock.
    5-0 out of 5 stars It's Finally Here & It's GREAT!!!!!!!!
Well, the long awaited DVD set of AHP is here at last. There are 39 episodes in this second season set. The 39 are as follows:

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have
Charlie Brown is classic. You'll love his simple style and humor and the kids will too.It reminds me of simpler times in life without all the clutter and business of today. There's no fighting, special powers, x-ray vision, etc.Just Charlie Brown and the gang learning about life and teaching important lessons along the way.

5-0 out of 5 stars How do I play The Royal LIfe ?
I love the movie! I just have one problem. I can't seem to be able to play The Royal Life from Disc 2? I put it in my computer and clicked on The Royal Life and it just gives me a summary of what it's about and then tells me to insert the dvd-rom. Does someone know how to do this?

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Cinderella is the film that saved the Walt Disney Company.
5-0 out of 5 stars Walt Disney's Best Movie
Disney made its mark as a major studio in 1937 with its first full-length feature film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. Ironically, given this early success, Snow White was their only hit movie for the next 13 years. World War II kicked the hell out of Disney's overseas markets. Even movies today regarded as classic Disney - Pinnochio, Bambi, Fantasia - lost money on initial release. Disney eked through by diversifying into training films for the US government, and the South American films that were part of FDR's Good Neighbor policy, etc. - stuff that made back its costs but not much more. By 1948, Disney was in dire financial straits. They had just enough money for one more movie. Walt Disney realized he needed a hit or his studio probably wouldn't survive, and it would have to be what they did best: a full-length animated feature film. Walt said to himself, "What we need is a movie about a girl in trouble. Audiences love that. They loved Snow White." That's what he wanted: a movie like Snow White, but even more so - more comedy, more drama, more magic, more music, more lovable characters. He chose as the basis of his company's Hail Mary pass arguably the most famous fairy tale in the world: Cinderella.

5-0 out of 5 stars Loved This Season!
I know that there are Bewitched fans who love the first two B&W seasons the best well Im one who enjoys the color seasons after Tabitha's magic develops the best. This season has some of my personal funniest episodes. The Halloween episode this season is in my opinion the best Halloween episode from this or any other TV Sitcom ever! I LOVE the chase around the house that Sam does when chasin after those spooks Tabitha zapped out of her book. And then when one of the spooks turns Gladys Kravitz's nephew in to a goat it is so funny how he baaas her name "aunt gllllllaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaadddddddyyyyyyyyyyysssss"! Gladys is also funny on that episode. Plus I LOVED the bull dog episode when Tabitha changed that bully into a bulldog. This season and the Fifth season were my two favorites. I just hope they continue and release the fifth season as well as the sixth thru the final season which is the eight season. I can't add much more that none of the other reviews haven't said except I agree with most of their comments... Why doesn't TV air these anymore? We pay so much each month for dish and cable? It makes me so angry the way TV Networks air the same series on different channels. Why can't some of these TV channels drop some of those same old shows that we can see on other channels and add Bewitched back on?!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Bewitched-speed it up fellas on releasing these seasons
I was so glad that BEWITCHED is being released on DVD, yes I am buying them and season 4 is being purchased without question.
5-0 out of 5 stars Season 4 Was the Best!
Much can be said about Bewitched's 4th season.I believe the series peaked here. They introduced a whole slew of new sound effects, some of which remained until the end of the series.Sam's identical cousin, Serena, began making semi-regular appearances during this season. Dr. Bombay appears a few times also. His character was fully developed from the word GO. Also, this was the final season we see Aunt Clara prior to Marion Lorne's passing away.(They should have at least given an explanation about her absence in season 5).

It's still one of the sweetest kisses onscreen, up there with Bergman and Grant, Bogey and Bacall: the moment when pampered purebred Lady and streetwise mongrel Tramp, sharing a moonlit plate of spaghetti in an alley behind an Italian café, unknowingly slurp the same strand, and suddenly find their mouths meeting in surprise and tenderness. Ah, puppy love. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Lady and the Tramp....Going into the Vault!
Disney has announced that in January the Lady and the Tramp DVD will be put into the vault!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Most Romantic of All Disney Films
I fell in love with this movie when I was little, back in 1955 when "Lady and the Tramp" first came to the theaters, and am probably one of the few who can actually remember seeing the promo show, "The Story of Dogs" on the old Disneyworld TV series from the early 50's.I actually had the rare privildge of being taken twice! To this day, it remains my all-time favorite Disney film, favorite dog film, and continues to charm, amuse, and move me to tears.
5-0 out of 5 stars Romantic Comedy Goes to the Dogs
Lady and the Trap has been an enduring Disney classic for 50 years now and it's amazing how well it holds up after all that time. The hand painted animation is beautiful and the story and music are top notch. This film is an example of Disney animation at its classic best.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great collection of classic horror
This is a great bargain, a collection of various classic horror films when art design, music and acting were counted on to provide the atmosphere instead of the sophisticated cartooning of computer generation. The greatest here is Peter Lorre in his best US performance in "Mad Love", filmed as if it were a Murnau German silent and the template visually for much of "Citizen Kane" (in particular Welles lifted the parrot). Worth the price of admission alone.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great Set With Some Minor Issues.
From the moment LEGENDS OF HORROR was announced I was looking forward to it with great expectation but I already had a few qualms regarding it. As has been well covered elsewhere Boris Karloff's THE WALKING DEAD from 1936 should have been included in the set but I can live with THE RETURN OF DOCTOR X for a few reasons. 1) It does offer Humphrey Bogart the opportunity to show what a good actor can do with what for him was a thankless role. 2) The director Vincent Sherman was still alive to provide commentary on the making of the film as well as background on Bogie and others. 3) Most important of all it shows how censorship imposed on the movies in 1934 changed the style and content of the first great cycle of horror films.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Set!
Everyone has already covered this one well.A couple of notes about the prints, though.DR. X(1932) is taken from an original 2 strip Technicolor print restored by the UCLA Film & Television Archive.Warner chose to include the print, which is far from perfect, so that we can see it in the original 2 strip color.Apparently, the Warner archive contains only a B/W print of this film. The UCLA print is very rare and is a treasure.Same can be said for MYSTERY OF THE WAX MUSEUM(1933), available on the flipside of the separately available HOUSE OF WAX(1953) DVD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, warm trip down memory lane!
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is a charming and playful Halloween story that adults and kids will love. Bing Crosby's smooth tones are the perfect accompaniment for this old-fashionied cartoon - perfect for snuggling under the covers on a dark, rainy night! I absolutely loved it as a 7-year-old kid and I am thrilled to share it with my little boy.

5-0 out of 5 stars The eleventh animated Disney masterpiece is a winner
I recently reviewed "Fun and Fancy Free," released just two years before this film.Walt Disney tried the same thing in that film that he did in this film; he combined two shorts into one release.Unfortunately, the technique did not work well in "Fun and Fancy Free."The technique worked very well in this feature.

1-0 out of 5 stars When will studios learn? NO FLIPPERS!!!!!!
Flippers don't always play right on players, people have so much trouble with them,so my question is why??????????????????????????????????? Studios should stop being so cheap! Never met anyone who likes flippers, so are they not doing any research into the fanbase? Hey Fox, when you release it the RIGHT way and stop being cheap, i will buy your set, until then, forget it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Creepy...Kooky...Altogether a MUST HAVE for your TV collection
MGM/Fox did a really smart job with this jewel of 60s Television DVD box set.The packaging has beautiful graphics, the film transfers look sharp, and the bonus materials include just about everything you could want: interviews, commentaries, documentaries, photos, Charles Addams artwork, etc. (Sorry, no bloopers have been found.)I was thrilled to be asked to contribute to the commentaries along with some of the cast. Only one drawback...I wish the series' two seasons were released as such, and not divided into three volumes, but I can live with it. Acquiring the complete series will be the mission.Subsequent volumes will have additional extras...so keep a look-out.This series is a must-have on any classic TV shelf.Viva Jackie Coogan and Fester!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Could well be the best DVD on the market
Given that the movie is wonderful, perhaps the last of the great Hollywood musicals and a charmer for all generations, this DVD is still remarkably wonderful. Disney has done a clean-up job on the film that makes it shine. The audio is rich and wonderful, including the all-important ORIGINAL stereo soundtrack (feh to multi-channel remixes!). The special features even manage to elucidate the process of filmmaking in manner intriguing to both the cineaste parent and Mary-mad children.
5-0 out of 5 stars thank you, Julie and Dick (and Walt, of course)!
I think I like this movie more now than when I was a kid! And the extra features on this 2-DVD set are absolutely wonderful. Great interviews with Julie Andrews, Dick Van Dyke, one of the Sherman brothers (songwriter), and the girl who played Jane that really show how special the movie-making process was, which then translated to joy on the screen.
5-0 out of 5 stars Delightful story and lovely music
Mary Poppins must be one of the loveliest filming produced by Disney studios. This musical movie is extremely well produced and has outstanding actor work. The scenes are of high quality despite the whole story was filmed indoors. Even the little part of London was reproduced in Disney studio. The music from Sherman brothers is world famous and well known. When you hear the first tunes, you might say: Hey I've heard that somewhere! Having this DVD on your shelf would please both you and your younger fellows. ... Read more

Finally, finally, finally, three Bogart films that used to be shown endlessly on TV when I was a child and which I absolutely loved are finally on DVD!I'm not talking about "Casablanca" or "The Maltese Falcon" Or "The Treasure of Sierra Madre", or any of those films that first come to mind when the name Humphrey Bogart is mentioned.I'm taking about "Across The Pacific", "All Through The Night", and "Action in the North Atlantic".God, I loved those movies!
5-0 out of 5 stars BOGIE'S BACK.....and you can have him in a luscious new collection of gems!
Re-releasing popular titles on DVD is par-for-course for most labels. Only two come back for another release when the reason is damned good...WB and Criterion. Unlike the other studios, only these two save the second dip for something far better, and this superb SIGNATURE COLLECTION VOLUME TWO contains four new-to-DVD releases, looking SENSATIONAL, but also a re-visit to THE MALTESE FALCON, which along with CASABLANCA and SIERRA MADRE, represents the very best of the world's most beloved and timeless movie actor.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous, Off-Beat Mix of Bogie WWII -Era Classics...
"Humphrey Bogart - The Signature Collection, Vol. 2" may be as entertaining a collection of Bogart films, as he emerged as a major WB star, as you'll ever find. They run the gamut of early classic noir, espionage, action/adventure, broad comedy, and moody morality tale, each exceptional, and stamped with the distinctive Bogie 'style'.

Charlie Brown gets rocks in his trick-or-treat bag, Linus awaits a visitation from the Great Pumpkin in his terribly sincere pumpkin patch (while the adoring little Sally sits tight with him), Snoopy falls asleep, Lucy harasses Schroeder, and Pig-Pen kicks up a dust storm even beneath his costume in this classic television broadcast. Funny stuff, but also graced with Charles Schultz's more poignant and gently satiric themes from the 1960s on the influence of faith, failure, and hope in our lives. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars "Oh, Great Pumpkin! Where ARE you?"
This delightful Halloween classic is one of my all-time favorite Peanuts specials! Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Linus, Lucy and Sally were never more charming as they are in this feature!

After watching volume 1, I could not wait for volume 2.The stories are even better than I remembered. The picture is wonderfully clear. This series is the grandfather of all courtroom dramas. Many have tried to imitate, but none have duplicated.Within the drama find humor, thrills and down right fun.You know he is going to solve the mystery, but can you figure out the secret? This is TV of classic proportions. The entire cast is merely excellent and the writing only fantastic.Watch this.

    Editorial Review

Still the tightest, sharpest, and most cynical of Hollywood's official deathless classics, bracingly tough even by post-Tarantino standards. Humphrey Bogart is Dashiell Hammett's definitive private eye, Sam Spade, struggling to keep his hard-boiled cool as the double-crosses pile up around his ankles. The plot, which dances all around the stolen Middle Eastern statuette of the title, is too baroque to try to follow, and it doesn't make a bit of difference. The dialogue, much of it lifted straight from Hammett, is delivered with whip-crack speed and sneering ferocity, as Bogie faces off against Peter Lorre and Sidney Greenstreet, fends off the duplicitous advances of Mary Astor, and roughs up a cringing "gunsel" played by Elisha Cook Jr. It's an action movie of sorts, at least by implication: the characters always seem keyed up, right on the verge of erupting into violence. This is a turning-point picture in several respects: John Huston (Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Knights of Maltese Falcon
An excellent film all around.I'd like to see any of today's directors or actors produce all this complication in a one room setting.I also want to point out that the official Amazon review terms the title "Maltese Falcon" as a "Middle Eastern" treasure.Don't tell any Maltese that!Malta is in the western mediterranean just south of Sicily, hardly near the Middle East.Occupied for centuries by Italy, it was the site of the famous 16th century battle where a smaller contingent of Catholic European knights (9000, most of whom were common islanders) held off a huge seige by 40,000 Mulsim Turks, establishing the order of the Knights of Malta that is still an official Roman Catholic Knightly order. At the time, Spain contolled the island and Charles V gave the island to the Knights of St. John to resist the advance of the Ottoman Turks, who he feared might conquer Rome and end Christianity in Europe. A "Maltese Falcon" therefore would have been a object associated with this period and the Knights of Malta as the Wikipedia quote from below seems to prove.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Classic Piece of Film
The Maltese Falcon is considered the first Film-Noir ever made and is a classic and highly innovative film starring Humphrey Bogart, Mary Astor, and Peter Lorre. The movie is #23 on The American Film Institute's Top 100 and is written and directed by John Huston. Right from the beginning of the movie I realized how many movies this thing has inspired. The first ten minutes of the film kept bringing to mind the first ten minutes of another classic film called "Chinatown." Ironically, "Chinatown" co-starred this films director John Huston. Bogart, in one of his most famous roles, plays Sam Spade, a Private detective who is hired by Brigid O'Shaughnessy (Astor) to chase away a man her sister is dating. Spade sends his partner Archer, but Archer (and the sisters' date) is killed. But Spade smells something fishy and his sense of smell is heightened when a mysterious man named Joel Cairo (Lorre) offers him $5000 dollars to find a jewel-encrusted falcon. Frequent scenes in which Sam outsmarts or outmuscles the bad guys are hilarious. The movie's final line is one of films most famous. This film doesn't evoke the same mood and tone that I associate with "film-noir" but whatever you want to call it...It's a great film. It's very entertaining, Sam Spade is one of Bogart's greatest creations (kind of the opposite of Rick, the character he would go on to play in "Casablanca"). Peter Lorre is wonderful as Cairo, although he's not quite as bugeyed as he was in the German-classic M. For another example of how good (and important) this movie is, I must mention that you can see echoes of this film in almost any detective movie that was made after it. This is a masterpiece of cinema. Don't miss it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Yes, but what about the DVD case(s)?
I give this five stars because the film is superb and there are some very nice special features on this new reissue - however, I have some complaints about the actual packaging of the discs. Rather than follow the route of Casablanca, Treasure of the Sierra Madre and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest with the WB "cardboard" fold-out cases, which feel similar to Criterion DVDs and are higher quality, "Maltese Falcon" is just a standard DVD container with three smaller DVD cases inside - the same type of cheap, plastic DVD cases HBO began using for their DVDs of television shows a few years ago. They're the same as the "Arrested Development Season One" discs - it works for television shows because it's a bit easier to maintain, but I honestly think these are very annoying for films and they just don't appear to be as high quality as the standard WB classic reissues from the past few years.

5-0 out of 5 stars In defence of the color seasons
Many fans of THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN prefer the first 2 B&W seasons, and, quite unfairly, dismiss the color episodes as being lightweight and strictly for kids. This is NOT correct!! Although season 5 is probably the weakest of all of the 6 seasons, the final (6th) season contains several of the best episodes of the entire series. Episodes such as "The Mysterious Cube", "All That Glitters" and "The Perils Of Superman" are gems.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gojira vs. Godzilla!
For sci-fi fans like me, this recent release of the Gojira/Godzilla DVD set has been a long-awaited event. Now, at long last, we are able to see the original Gojira film and compare it with the Godzilla Hollywood version which we all grew up watching. And here I thought I knew this movie...
5-0 out of 5 stars FUN, BUT NOT BETTER THAN THE AMERICAN VERSION
Before buying this 2 disc DVD,I've read the reviews of the fans and the majority of them praise 'Gojira'and mock the American version with Raymond Burr. After viewing the original Japanese version (which I belive is excellent), I find the comparison reviews narrow minded and disapointing. These folks are sophisticated and savy and have always known they can watch their tapes and DVD's over and over and pick apart anything they see. This must make them feel important but the opinions I've read on the comparison of the 2 films is unfair. I wasn't born in 1956 when the original U.S. version was released. I saw it in 1968 when I was 7 years old on 'Creature Feature' and I remember exactly what I said when it was over: "Godzilla is my new favorite Monster". Raymond Burr's 'Flashback' narrations give the film a documentary feel which is abscent from the Toho version. The American version is "different", not "worse". The anti-nuclear approach in the original film is "great", but it's not "better". And as for the techniques used to blend the 2 films, I think they were pretty damn clever and not ameturish in the least bit. Please buy this DVD; watch and love both versions....you'll thank me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not Re-Mastered and Restored, But Very Nice DVD Release Previously Unavailable!
I am very happy to finally see the ORIGINAL version of GOJIRA (a.k.a, GODZILLA) being officially released in the USA!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Greatest Animated Films of All Time
If film makers could figure out how to make a film like "Bambi" every time, the art of film making would be just that; an art."Bambi" is a tale that is for children. However, that tale contains every element present in the life of a typical child: friendship, love, parental protection, loss, fear of the unknown, and, of course, growing up.I am still astonished at how a film that clocks in at 69 minutes can capture the essence of life.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Movie Ever!

5-0 out of 5 stars It's great to see "Voyage" on DVD but. . .
. . . I don't like seeing the trend of dividing a season's worth of shows in two separate volumes continue. Just give us fans the entire season in one box. I do love the TV shows of Irwin Allen with "Voyage" being my favorite. I would also like to see "Land of the Giants" on DVD, too.

We pre-ordered this series to give the kids a visual to go with their Daniel Boone studies. Boy, was I plesantly surprised. It brought back so many good memories, and now I can share them with my kids. We just love the series and cannot wait to purchase Season 2 and the rest when they become available.

    2-0 out of 5 stars A Disaster!
What a HUGE disappointment this release is.I was suspecting that it wouldn't be all that great when I saw that the studio that originally produced this show, 20th Century Fox, was the same video company releasing it.Well, the first season looks horrible. The source material is all 16mm dupe prints, some parts of which are out of focus, scratched and dirty. In all cases the image is soft and, well, like 16mm.Compared to what Fox is releasing of VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA, produced the same year (1964) and at the same studio as BOONE, this release is nothing short of a disgrace. We should be given pristine 35mm source material, and we're not.I suspect Fox wouldn't release the original camera negs from it's vaults without a substantial fee.Anyway, season one of DANIEL BOONE isn't worth buying.I haven't seen season two, when the show started filming in color, but I'm now afraid to look.

3-0 out of 5 stars quality problem with disk 7
Recently bought season 1. Played 1 through 6. Perfect. Unfortunately disk 7 is a mess. 43 minutes into the Cain's Birthday part one, tracking went all over the place. Sound distorted. And that is just the good part. Jammed our dvd player. Thought that we would never get the dvd out of it. Tried to exchange at the store and found out that the other copy was in even worse shape. Did play volume 8 and that is just fine. Be very careful. Tried calling Liberation Entertainment and their mailbox is full. I am not surpised. If you can find a good one, maybe you can tell how Cain's birthday ends( would not even let me go to part 2).

    Editorial Review

Gary Cooper plays Alvin York, the real-life country lad and sharpshooter drafted to fight during World War I but blocked from killing by his pacifist sentiments. Howard Hawks makes a rousing, heroic film out of the tale, and Cooper gives one of his best performances (for which he won an Oscar). The 1941 feature seems as much a valentine to wartime America (and a not-so-subtle piece of propaganda) as anything, with Hawks capturing splendidly shot scenes of life in York's home state of Tennessee, which in turn provide a striking contrast to the battlefield. A key scene in the film, in which York is presented with an argument in favor of killing in war, is still thought provoking. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars WHEN OSCAR MET COOPER....A TIMELESS TRIUMPH!
For those who wonder why it took so long for SERGEANT YORK to make his journey to DVD, all you have to be familiar with is how AWFUL this movie looked when TCM ran it on TV. Like so many older Warner pictures, it needed to be restored, and over and over again, the grand old studio founded by the brothers Warner is restoring is glittering gems for DVD to look and sound terrific.
5-0 out of 5 stars Took them long enough!!!
4-0 out of 5 stars FINALLY
This is really a classic American movie and it boggles the mind why it took the studio so long to release it. Sgt. York is played by Gary Cooper in what I personally believe is his best performance. Walter Brennan is fabulous as the folksy preacher. I particularly remember the turkey shooting contest in which York demonstrated his skill with a rifle. Recently, American Rifleman magazine published a great story on Sgt. York that is well worth reading! ... Read more
