4-0 out of 5 stars Hen Pecked Fingers
Opening with an image of the atomic bomb reducing Hiroshima to ashes, Fukasaku Kinji's Battles without Honor and Humanity begins a series of five movies depicting the chaotic life of Hirono Shozo a former soldier who is trying to survive in the chaotic world of the black markets in postwar Japan. A pretty even-tempered man, the viewer first witnesses Hirono lash out in violence when a group of American GIs try to rape a woman. Amidst the chaos of the black market with its prostitutes, underground rice kitchens, and violent bars, one of Hirono's friend's head is slashed by a yakuza. A rival yakuza was going to deal with the man, but in his stead Hoshino seeks revenge for his friend. Faced with a drunken, sword wielding yakuza Hirono empties his pistol into the man, and receives a twelve year sentence. However, while in prison, he meets another yakuza named Wakasugi who plans to slice open his stomach in order to get out of jail on bail. Promising to raise Hirono's bail money if he helps him in his plot, Wakasugi introduces Hirono into the world of the yakuza and the two men become blood brothers.
5-0 out of 5 stars No honor amongst thieves and killers
There are few films as well-named as Fukasaku Kinji's "Battles Without Honor and Humanity"("Jingi naki tatakai.')With one shot, Fukasaku (director of "Battle Royale") undid and entire genre of film, one that would never be the same again.A lone Yakuza, wielding a Samurai sword stands against a crowd, a brave sneer on his face.He is instantly shot and killed, his katana useless against a gun.

1-0 out of 5 stars reviewing brentweood home video version
I have to agree with the past reviewer that the scenes they cut out would have made it a watchable movie. All that I was left with was Jim Kelly beating up other grown men AND midgets. The final fight against the strong guy was the most trouble I had paying attention to a movie in a long time.I do have to say that Kelly did have acting ability, just don't expect for it to get showcased in this movie.
4-0 out of 5 stars NEVER The White Knight, Baby...
This is an excellent Kung-Fu classic from the 70's that has unfortunately been neutered by the ridiculous (and unexplained) editing of Brentwood Home Video.Look for the VHS copy made by Continental Video in the 80's & 90's.The Continental video has all the cut nudity, cursing and explicit violence that movie goers in the 70's would have seen.Don't buy this jive-turkey by Brentwood unless you are desperate to see the movie.Instead, search around for the Continental copy. You won't be disappointed. On to the review...
5-0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Movie Ever Made
Black Samurai has everything you could ever want in a movie: Karate, Jim Kelly, midgets, poisonous snakes, shag carpeting, babes, a purple sports car, a gay warlock, the sleaziest Argentinian henchman imaginable, bad Seventies fashion, blue eye shadow, guys in 30's Tarzan movie African outfits, voodoo, samurai swords, snappy dialogue, and an amazing story line.

1-0 out of 5 stars FLASH FIZZLES
Sam Jones who burst on to the scene way back in 1980s FLASH GORDON co-stars in this ridiculously trite and boring movie. He plays the head of an agency called...TA DUM...THE PROGRAM!!The participants in the Program are ASSASSINS who kill for the government, or so Mr. Jones says.Whether they really do or not is never fully revealed.Suffice to say, assassin and non-actor Ian Jacklin becomes his newest recruit. There's one scene where Jacklin is told he has to take acting classes to help in undercover roles. He tells instructor, the vacuous Judy Landers, "I'm no actor!".Amen, truer words could never be spoken.Mel Novak in his toupee and let's make me look younger makeup plays Jacklin's mentor, who also has asthma.Joe Estevez brings further shame to the Sheen clan as a baseball spouting psycho, in one of the worst performances I've seen in a year!Julie Merrill tags along as the blind wife of a mob leader whom Jacklin snuffs.Of course, he falls in love with her and vows to take down the agency, which he does in a really dead climax. In a truly inspired scene, prisoner Jacklin urinates on his priest's bible and tells him to go to hell. The priest, who is really Novak undercover, kicks him in the privates and convinces him to join the Program.
1-0 out of 5 stars Expert Weapon
I was very disappointed with Expert Weapon.Sam Jones was great in Flash Gordon but in this movie well i think he should have left it alone. The acting and fighting scenes were so stupidly made,it was like as if a actorwas standing there waiting to be hit. This is the type of film that remindedme of the early '80's low and cheap. Please do not waste your money on alow budget film like this.Rent it or look for a diffrent type of actionfilm.

Oh my God this movie is so bad it's great. I never thought anyone could get so many bad cop cliches in one movie:
2-0 out of 5 stars Bargain bin material
This is a low budget action movie that didn't quite come together.Cynthia Rothrock kicked booty as usual, but Fred Williamson and his character are unmemorable. The supposed budding romance between theRothrock and Williamson characters lacked chemistry and thankfully therewas no sex scene to strain credibility further. The plot is better thanthe usual martial arts movie, and this movie tries hard to be more than akick-flick (the recovering alcoholic subplot comes to mind) but the overallstory was not compelling.3-0 out of 5 stars Decent entertainment for guys and girls

5-0 out of 5 stars A great thriller, a hot guy, what more could you ask for?
This movie was excellent and skillfully done. I don't only love it because one of the main stars, Dominic Zamprogna, is SOO hot, but just because it's a great movie. It is an edge-of-your-seat thriller that you will have to watch from beginning to end.

4-0 out of 5 stars Say something once, why say it again?
This is one of those films that preys on the fears and emotions of its viewers, but does it rather well. It purposely contrives situations in order to gain our sympathies for the characters it wants. "Lethal Weapon 2" did this by having the evil South African government offical proclaim, "Diplomatic immunity!" after committing a heinous crime. In "Dirty Harry," the Scorpio Killer claims police brutality after receiving a well-deserved beating. Makes for a nice story and usually achieves its goal, though it simultaneously insults us as viewers. Nonetheless, I have a weakness for serial killer movies, especially when written well. This one is particularly memorable because it features Clint Eastwood in the title role, though Andy Robinson is at least as remarkable as the Scorpio Killer. Harry Callahan is dubbed "Dirty" because he refuses to play by the rules. He represents the biggest challenge to the killer, so the cat and mouse game ensues. Can Harry stop him before he kills again? Long a fantasy for upstanding citizens, this film is increasingly on its way toward becoming a reality (courtesy the NRA), due to laws permitting concealed handguns and to shoot now, ask questions later. Fed-up citizens with firearms are exactly what America needs to be great once again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, violent, and shattering....and funny, too....
The film critic Pauline Kael referred to this film as a "fascist" film, implying that simply because a cop who was disgusted by idiotic paperwork and having to obey bureaucrats and politicians who understand nothing about the world we live in decided to take an unconventional approach to fighting crime.Believe me, liberals like police, too. They're not going to care about certain people's rights when it comes to having a safe neighborhood. But then on the flip side, conservatives have never really liked civil liberties, unless they're arrested, then they want as many liberties as they can get.I personally hate when people with political axes to grind drag a film into their idiotic little world, because they're out to prove their point, and they'll distort the meaning of the film. It'll leave a bad taste in your mouth after you've seen it, because you've heard the verbose intellectuals talk and talk and talk and talk about it ad nauseum. This is a great film, one of Clint's best and the best film in the Dirty Harry series. It's intelligent, exciting, and funny as hell. It's politically incorrect, and that's a damn good thing.Life is politically incorrect, and that's a damn good thing also. There are many great setpieces, such as the opening bank robbery, the speech on why they call him Dirty Harry, the scene where they shoot Scorpio, and the final scene.A masterpiece....

5-0 out of 5 stars GO for it, Harry!
I'm awaiting my copy of "Dirty Harry" - then I'll have all five of the...well, "Dirty Harry" movies.Let the snivling liberals whine about "police brutality," "read him his rights," ad nauseum - you can just BET that there are a LOT MORE of us that condone everything Harry does and stands for. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars the white warrior
Kickboxer came out a year after the highly popular "Bloodsport" and like Bloodsport, Kickboxer is no doubt a "Van Damme classic".There are plenty of fights and lots of good training sequences, however the acting suffers - worse than Bloodsport in that department. As for the plot - revenge - go figure. But we don't need good acting and plot to enjoy this movie.Hey, it came to the point a good american martial art movie strives off of bad acting and weak plots so you can focus more on the action.Fortunately, Kickboxer delivers it well. The movie begins with a couple of good fights right away.About 1/2 of the movie is training sequences, but many are enjoyable to watch. The final fight is between the villain, Tong Po (played by Michel Qissi) and Kurt Sloane (Van Damme). Its a rather lenghty fight, about 10 minutes, which is nice.Above all else, they fight with hands wrapped in rope with broken glass glued on, and yes the result is some blood during the fighting.Kickboxer is the only martial art movie I know of that used this "ancient Thai style of fighting" (with the exception of Kickboxer 2 and a small scene in Ring of Fire).I really enjoyed this.I also enjoyed Michel Qissi. He had maybe one line in the movie, but still succeeded in making Tong Po a great villain, who also will return in the sequal.Lastly, we can't forget to mention the Van Damme dance - Napoleon Dynamite would be proud. Also keep an eye out for Ong Soon Han (main villain in both Bloodsport 2 and Dragon:The Bruce Lee Story), who has a short fight against Tong Po about 1/2 way through the movie.

4-0 out of 5 stars kickboxer
Kickboxer is the first of the kickboxers,it's what started off the 5 movies of a family who took pride in their fighting skills.

It was OK. When it comes to movie making Hollywood does it best.

5-0 out of 5 stars La Femme Nikita ROCKS
THis is an excellent movie.I saw it originally years ago and actually saw it about 13 times.I've never done that with any other movie.I love the soundtrack, the action, the suspense and the acting.

2-0 out of 5 stars The French make stupid junk too. Look at Renault cars.
La Femme Nikita is just not a very engaging film on any level. The action is totally surpassed in Besson's later work, the characters are annoying and/or too superficial -- but worse yet, the entire affair is dripping with pathos and a silly desire to make a political message. OBNOXIOUS French pablum. ... Read more

Amazing, but the name is the most redeeming quality of this movie. The "chain gang" is comprised of MEN, and only men. Men escape from a chain gang with a little help from two women. Acting is okay to bad, quality is okay to bad, story is okay to bad.

3-0 out of 5 stars Old "Skool" Kung Fu!!
This flick was directed by Jackie Chan. "Dance Of Death" could have been a 4 star easily. I though this flick was just o.k,,,,I'm a big fan of the "crazy horse kung fu", which is very rare in kung fu movies. This movie highlighted that kung fu style very nicely I though,,,however, I felt it went over-board in the final fight scene, which resulted the fight became extremely boaring,,,I swear,,this went on for approximately 20 mins. That is why I ended up giving this film a 3 star. However, the choreography was nicely done.
5-0 out of 5 stars Dance of Death - "Awesome Action!"
Angela Mao Ying plays Fei Fei, an orphan girl disguised as a boy, who seeks revenge on the ruthless and wicked gang who killed her friends. (She's too cute to be a guy - anyone could pick that up). She enlisted the help of two neighborhood clowns and tricked them into teaching her their kung fu styles in order to settle an argument between them of which one was the best. Getting her rear end kicked a few times and escaping for her life, she was able to collect herself each time and make adjustments to her fighting style. This flick is a delight. In this one you will see one of the main characters from "Ninja Checkmate."I won't say who, you'll have to get the DVD yourself!
4-0 out of 5 stars Slapstick and Kung-Fu.
Very funny Angela Mao vehicle. She plays a character named Fei Fei who is seeking vengeance for the deaths of some friends she just met, as well as trying to help two older kung-fu masters decide who is the better fighter.Much comedy is provided by these two men. One is a drunk with a prominent red nose and the other is smoking something that causes hilariously goofy music to play whenever he takes a hit off his pipe. Angela is very funny, mixing in a good deal of slapstick with straight fighting, in the various combat scenes. Also funny are nods to both Clint Eastwood's man with no name and Henry Mancini's Pink Panther theme. Recomended to those looking for a more light hearted martial arts flick. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Give this movie a chance!
I admit, for the first ten or fifteen minutes I thought I was going to have to detroy this dvd and any evidence that I had purchased it.But I gave it a chance and this turned out to be one of the funniest movies I've ever seen.Whoever was in charge of marketing this film ought to be fired, because judging from the cover one would expect to see a action/thriller.Well, it has action, a bit of gore but it's mostly a comedy.Very funny stuff!I recommend it to anyone with a slightly deranged sense of humor!

1-0 out of 5 stars What a waste of time!!
This movie was ridiculous.I was hoping maybe it would have a good story line, butI could tell from the very first scene that it was gonna be whack and I was right. If you decide to have a day of watching the worst movies of all time, be sure to include this one!Too bad I couldn't give it half a star, it didn't really deserve that.

1-0 out of 5 stars One of the worst movies of all time

4-0 out of 5 stars It's a concrete blonde
Ten years ago when it first came out, I saw this film and loved it! Then I forgot the name of the film and no one that I ever asked knew what the heck movie I was talking about. But it always stood out in the forefront of my memory as being a great film. I had forgotten the name of the movie for TEN YEARS and have actually researched for the past few weeks until I re-discovered it, if that tells you anything about how well I liked it. I only gave it four stars because I have not yet viewed it, again. Kieran Mulroney gives a very moving and convincing performance as someone who wavers between being resolute and questioning his own faith. Chris Rock, well he rocks! It's got action, emotional drama, comedic relief, it's a concrete blonde!

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Action/Thriller With A Stellar Cast!!!
Iusually don't have time for Action/Thriller movies about robberies but this is the exception to the rule and it would have to be on my list ofMy Favourite Top Ten Movies. I can't speak highly enough of this film. Nightclub owner Jack, played by Eric Roberts organizes a group of 8 people to steal some large amounts of cash. This movie has Drama, Comedy and Sympathy for the characters from the viewer which is rare for most action movies these days. The guys andthe woman who stole the cash all have a secret and as the body count rises their secrets are slowly revealed. Tia Carrere is beautiful as always and produced this movie which shows she is a lady of not only beauty but good taste in scripts.Clarence Williams III gives a great performance and it is a real shame that we do not see him in more movies these days.Chris Rock is also very funny as the guy who is the partner of Ms. Carrere.I liked this movie so much that I bought a copy from the Video Store which is a pretty rare thing for me to do. This movie was made in 1995 and it has hardly dated. Bravo to the cast, crew, director and producers of this fine piece of Hollywood magic. They don't come much better than this!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad!
Eight misfit criminals unite to simultaneous steal from various targets in the city. Of course it all goes bad, predictable but still fun and entertaining. There's a lot of gunfire, explosions, tough-guys and a gal, and some humor thrown in.It translates to a very good action-thriller. Academy Award nominee Eric Roberts, is as good as he was in Runway Train (he was nominated for an Academy Award for in 1985). At the end of this film you might be surprise who the real target is!It's worth your time, however it is only available in limited quantities, you'll have to order it and wait. But it's worth it.By the way, Chris Rock is true to form and he'll make you laugh!Rate R for strong language and violence. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Horrible Movie,Great Extra
Please only buy this if you are a Bruce Campbell fan. Why? A Great 5-Star Commentary to a 1-Star Movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thou Shalt Watch This Flick
From the world of Raimi and Campbell comes this mid 80's cult gem right out of DETROIT MICHIGAN!!! Where do I begin with this unique blend of war stories, gore, low budget style, insanity and action? Now as much as I like this movie, I know some may not get it and that is natural since b-movies or cult films tend to appeal to a limited but open minded audience. For those who are into this type of cinema, you came to the right place and it doesn't get much better than this movie. I think the most important aspect of this film is Sam Raimi's performance as the morbidly deranged Charles Manson like cult leader. Everything from his motions right down to classic lines such as "Don't you ever touch the sacrificial fluids... okey dokey" as he delivers it in the film will make you say this is the guy who directed Spider Man? It's a bold mixture of humor and instability. This film is also another example of low budget appeal and style that you can not reproduce so it is for sure a great campy film for its time. Now the filming location is credited as being shot at Bruce Campbell's old residence but no other locations are listed so it got me thinking that the war sequences and cabin shots may have been shot way out in the suburbs? Northville Tunnels would have been a great filming location for some of the scenes (those of you from the Detroit area will know what I am talking about). Also, fans of Evil Dead and low budget horror will really dig this flick. By all accounts, that acting is cheese and some of the effects are what you expect of a low budget film but this is why cult film enthusiast like us love these type of films.

1-0 out of 5 stars This Sucks
There is a difference between cheesy and just bad movie. The difference I like cheesy but the was cheesy ...except IT SUCKS. Not really too much to say about this movie bad acting, bad movie. My opinion you agree press the yes to helpful button. Thanks . If you don't agree with it don't you press that other button. Thou Shalt Not Like This Movie...Except the Ending. ... Read more

I saw this movie because I'm a big fan of Yuen Woo Ping, but came away wondering what it was all about. There were some martial arts in it, but it seemed to be mainly some sort of stream-of-consciousness comedy that I didn't get. There's a whole lot of plot that doesn't really go anywhere, and some wire fu that seems to be there because he can do it, not because it has anything to do with the movie. I guess when you do as many movies as he does (sometimes 3 in a year) you're bound to end up with a few like this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars wacky, ingenious and highly entertaining
This movie is one of the best fantasy/comedies from hong kong that I have seen. Yuen Woo Ping (Drunken Master, Magnificent Butcher, The Matrix) directs and choreographs this gem with great humour, inventiveness andflair. The sets and cinematography are also top notch. Some of the wackyset pieces include "a pedal-powered massage chair, a featherbarometer, a homonculus-like baby, masks, flying drills, and a fightingstick-man". The film culminates with a tournament of sorcerers whichis great fun. Many people that aren't die hard fans can find hong kongCinema a bit of a chore but this is one of the films that will be enjoyedby anyone with a sense of humour and a taste for the bizarre and wacky. Also the Martial Arts scenes are fantastic - fast and furious with somestunning choreography - check it out!

2-0 out of 5 stars NOT AS FUNNY AS BILLED. AND ALMOST NO ACTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wish that I could write a really long review on this but I really didn't like it.It;s basically the same as project A except with limited action, stupid comedy, and a final fight scene that doesn't dissapoint because IT'S THE ONLY FREAKING ONE.The weird soccer game was pretty enjoyable, and the whole gun thing was very funny, but a major letdown overall.

3-0 out of 5 stars THIS IS NOT "DRAGON LORD," THIS IS "DRAGON FIST"
Okay listen up folks. Too many of you are posting reviews on this DVD that relate to Jackie Chan's "Dragon Lord." This is "Dragon Fist." This is a serious movie of Jackie Chan's with some violent choreography and some good stunts. This is about a young man named Yuan (Jackie Chan) who witnesses his champion master fight a challenger who is angry that he didn't get to compete in the martial arts competition. After Yuan witnesses his master get killed, he vows to his master's wife and daughter that he will train hard and avenge his death.
4-0 out of 5 stars Dragon Lord : Don't be confused, This is a good film.
Dragon Lord is the first good Jackie Chan film. All the elements of a classic Jackie Chan film came together in this film for the first time:1)The well-trained but clumsy underdog hero whose adolescent tendencies get him into big trouble. 2) The use of almost cartoonish humor, blended with spectacular, sometimes death defying stunt work 3)sometimes brutal hand to hand fights with a bare minimum of bone breaking sound effects or blood.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars B grade plot, No consistent theme, good action though!
If you like to see guns and bullets this movie is fine. Otherwise there is nothing original or interesting.

3-0 out of 5 stars Promising and O.K. sequel
The movie started off promising, but this sequel to this made-for-video flick needs a little work. No desert storm sequences this time (thank goodness), but this time they may have copied some submarine scenes from"Hunt for Red October". Originally shown on HBO as "Operation Delta ForceII: Mayday." ... Read more

Editorial Review

Alfred Hitchcock himself called this 1934 British edition of his famous kidnapping story the work of a talented amateur, while his 1956 Hollywood remake was the consummate act of a professional director. Be that as it may, this earlier movie still has its intense admirers who prefer it over the Jimmy Stewart-Doris Day version, and for some sound reasons. Tighter, wittier, more visually outrageous (back-screen projections of Swiss mountains, a whirly-facsimile of a fainting spell), the film even has a female protagonist (Edna Best in the mom part) unafraid to go after the bad guys herself with a gun. (Did Doris Day do that that? Uh-uh.) While the '56 film has an intriguing undercurrent of unspoken tensions in nuclear family politics, the '34 original has a crisp air of British optimism glummed up a bit when a married couple (Best and Leslie Banks) witnesses the murder of a spy and discovers their daughter stolen away by the culprits. The chase leads to London and ultimately to the site of one of Hitch's most extraordinary pieces of suspense (though on this count, it must be said, the later version is superior). Take away distracting comparisons to the remake, and this Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Early British Great From Hitch
From 1934.."The Man Who Knew Too Much"(He remade this one in 1956). A great thriller about a carefree family on a winter holiday, who unwittingly become involved in an assassination plot. The Lawrences are having a wonderful time, but when their dear friend is shot, he reveals to them a plot to assassinate an important statesman before he dies. The would be killers kidnap the young daughter of the family in order to ensure their silence.Working with the police is out of the question and the Lawrences must take matters into their own hands as they try to rescue their daughter and stop the murder, which is to take place at the glorious Albert Hall.
5-0 out of 5 stars He knew way too much
Alfred Hitchock may have preferred his later remake of "The Man Who Knew Too Much" as opposed to his early "amateur" original. But the original has a raw, murky, taut appeal all its own, and it has the veddy veddy British flavor that many of Hitchcock's early hits have. In short, it's unpretentiously enjoyable. 4-0 out of 5 stars Hitchcock establishing his reputation

5-0 out of 5 stars A mothers revenge.
Great movie, I loved it when it first come out and still love it (apart from the God awful waitress costume choice). The acting is solid and convincing, the story line and pace is entertaining and good. The sex scene was well done and in line with the story. This is a good revenge flick that incorporated the east v west theme well. Highly recommend.

4-0 out of 5 stars Better than it should be
While skirting the edges of formula, this film nevertheless manages to include a few elements of originality that definitely place it above the norm in the thriller arena.5-0 out of 5 stars Well done
This movie was well done. It got it's message across on how revenge motivates people to do things. Madsen was execellent as the mother out for justice. The other actors did well also. I'd recomend this to everyone I see. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Means what it says.
Haven't seen this flick but whenever amazon.com rates an item as "not for sale to persons under age 18" take it seriously. The reviewer (hmph!) below who says this is good for the whole family likes to place honey-smelling mudpies (so to speak) in the path and run away snickering.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice soft porn
This title is notable, and buyable, for one reason only: its extended lesbian sex sequence. Both Tamara Landry and Jeanine Antoine make this a DVD that must be added to your collection.Ignore the 'plot', the 'acting', etc. etc., just jump to the this scene and you won't have wasted your [money] :)

3-0 out of 5 stars HOW NOT TO MAKE A DVD
I give it three stars for the actors and the story, but not for the quality of the DVD.The picture quality is about that of a VHS, but there are no, and I mean no, extras on it.No trailers, no cast bio's, not even scene selections.Whoever cranked this out should take some lessons on what is expected of this format. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars La Femme Nikita

OBNOXIOUS French pablum. ... Read more
