4-0 out of 5 stars More than a hillbilly romp in the woods
`Deliverance' when it comes down to it is ultimately about the animal instinct of survival and the inherent ability to make bad decisions in the brink of pure panic. When four friends decide to take a trip into the wilderness they are faced with a terror they never would have expected. When two of the friends get separated from the group they become an easy target for some hillbilly men trying for a quick lay.As in poor Bobby (Ned Beatty) gets attacked and um...well you all know the infamous "squeal like a pig scene" I'm sure, while Ed (Jon Voight) has to watch while held at gunpoint. When Lewis (Burt Reynolds) and Drew (Ronny Cox) come across this attach Lewis resorts to killing one of the men only to have the other retreat back into the woods.
5-0 out of 5 stars Coulda Done Better
Considering the story, the backdrop, and the actors, the movie makers could have done a lot more with this story. It's kind of an inbreds vs. the modern man thing, or nature vs. man. Man can only do so much to control or destroy nature, without it coming back with a vengance. Man can only do so much without the civilizing effect of the law which some mountain people don't seem to care for. It's a tale of survival, group survival when the cards are stacked against them. Good material for a movie, yet they don't pull it off here.
5-0 out of 5 stars All plot
If you aren't from the southern US, and familiar with mountain culture, you'll miss some of this.It is not about the evil in mountain men, either. It is about what happens when events lead down an irretrievable path, and man is caught in them, like in a spider web. Thus, it is all plot. And that what happens to these men, while not of their own making, can and may result in their destruction.

Editorial Review

Do you know anyone who hasn't seen this movie? A box-office smash when released in 1993, this spectacular update of the popular 1960s TV series stars Harrison Ford as a surgeon wrongly accused of the murder of his wife.He escapes from a prison transport bus (in one of the most spectacular stunt-action sequences ever filmed) and embarks on a frantic quest for the true killer's identity, while a tenacious U.S. marshal (Tommy Lee Jones, in an Oscar-winning role) remains hot on his trail. Director Andrew Davis hit the big time with this expert display of polished style and escalating suspense, but it's the antagonistic chemistry between Jones and Ford that keeps this thriller cooking to the very end. In roles that seem custom-fit to their screen personas, the two stars maintain a sharply human focus to the grand-scale manhunt, and the intelligent screenplay never resorts to convenient escapes or narrative shortcuts. Equally effective as a thriller and a character study, this is a Hollywood blockbuster that truly deserves its ongoing popularity. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good film update of old series
Dr. Richard Kimble (Harrison Ford) and his wife, Helen (Sela Ward) seem to have it all, until she is murdered. The police believe that Richard killed her, and there is enough evidence to convict him, and a serious miscarriage of justice results in Richard being on a train on his way to prison. But, there is a train accident, Richard escapes, and he goes on a quest for his wife's true killer, while trying to keep one step ahead of the police, led by Marshal Sam Gerard (Tommy Lee Jones).
5-0 out of 5 stars The Fugitive
Excellent movie!Having watched the TV series as a child, it was refreshing to see the story done in today's setting with the different techological elements of our lives woven into the story.Of course that is not unique in itself but the results were stimulating and exciting to behold.

With its high-intensity plot about an attempt to assassinate French President Charles de Gaulle, the bestselling novel by Frederick Forsyth was a prime candidate for screen adaptation. Director Fred Zinnemann brought his veteran skills to bear on what has become a timeless classic of screen suspense. Not to be confused with the later remake Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A pleasant rather than great movie.
Packed with then-famous british and french actors, The Day Of The Jackal depicts the cat-and-mouse game between a mysterious assassin trying to kill General De Gaulle and the policemen trying to stop him.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Flicks of the 1970s
Along with Forsyth's Odessa File, Marathon Man and a handful of others, this ranks among the very best manifestations of an otherwise tasteless epoch. Believe me, I was there.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rollin', Rollin' Down the River As Big Wheels Keep on Turnin'
Having viewed "Murder on the Orient Express" and seeing Albert Finney in the role of Hercule Poirot, I was uncertain about my reaction to Peter Ustinov in this leading role, such different personalities and physical types/appearances. My concerns were quickly laid to rest, when at a hotel on the banks of the Nile, Mr. Poirot spoke in his French-accented Belgian voice to David Niven who played a lawyer representing Lynette Doyle's (aka Ridgeway's) interests, one knew this would be a film worth viewing. All the key players in this murder/drama were staying at the same hotel, waiting for the luxury steamboat "Karnak" to arrive and take them on their cruise down the Nile ...
4-0 out of 5 stars Death on the Nile
MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS must have impressed me, because I bought this the next day and watched it that evening. It's great. Agatha Christie wrote novels with the intention of writing novels, but as luck would have it they translate into films quite well. Exotic scenery. A peek at how rich folks live. An all-star cast in fun roles that are meant to be a bit over the top, so that we think everybody is the killer. And everybody has the means, motive and opportunity to be the killer. But who is it?
5-0 out of 5 stars best hercule poirot

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Boy Scout
This movie is the true Willis vehicle and Damon Wayans only eggs the Man on...If you're looking for Oscar material, get over it. But! if you're looking for a goodtime, then this is it. I love this movie and Bruce Willis is in true form in this flick, Wayans is awesome too. Sometimes you get tired of watching the Fat A---d Rich guy Win time and again. This Movie is about doing what's right, even if it means going about it the wrong way...you gotta do what you gotta do and Willis does, with a little help from his Friends. I was Cheering at the Explosive ending and I Love when a low life gets his. This is a non-stopper and it only lets up to let you catch your breath and then you're off again. Willis gives new meaning to getting a "light" for a cigarette and shows us that "Yes" he can dance a jig. Wanna have some fun? Wanna Cheer for the Underdog? Wanna see how a Man stands up when the chips are down or his Kid is in Danger? "The Last Boy Scout" is your ticket. Great Action Flick!

4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Guy's Movie
The Last Boy Scout, is one of the last and greatest 1980s-style action movies. In my mind, it is to 80s action movies what The Wild Bunch was to Westerns: it's a marks the end of an era--with a bang.
3-0 out of 5 stars Satan Claus is out there and we need more boy scouts
This movie is a cross between Die Hard and Willis' David Addison of Moonlighting fame: violent, wise-cracking, slapstick and football - what more could a guy want.It is, however, over the top with more cursing than necessary, but believe it or not the chemistry works between Willis and Wayans.I was hoping it might spawn a sequel or two given that Willis at the end of the film asks Wayans to join him as a partner in his detective business.Perhaps the box office take just wasn't there.Lots of comedians in this film.Wayans comical, but in a more serious role, Rick Ducommon as the guy with the car in his pool and Taylor Negron steals this movie as the oh so seriously deadly Milo.Chelsea Field hasn't much of a part, but this movie does seem to have a low opinion of women. Also, despite her unnecessarily foul mouth Danielle Harris as Darian is charming despite that preoccupation. If you blink or go to the fridge you'll miss Halle Berry. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Rene Clair ALL the way...
I LOVED it! I totally recognized that is was a Rene Clair movie, because it has his mark all over it. The movie was very funny, as well as full of suspense. It doubles as a comedy. The cast is full of stars like James Cagney's dad in Yankee Doodle Dandee (forgot his name) as the alchoholic doctor, Barry Fitzgerald, Louis Hayward, C.Aubrey Smith, June Duprez, Roland Young, Mischa Auer as the crazy prince, Judith Anderson, and Richard Haydn. They were all really good in it, and I think this is the best version of all the movies of Agatha Christie's great novel/play. Mischa Auer was really very funny as the crazy Russian Prince. I wish he hadn't been the first to go, because it'd been fun to see what he would do throughout the movie. So all of them played their parts well, especially the Yankee Doodle Dandee guy, Richard Haydn, and Louis Hayward. He really is handsome, so I am adding him to my list of hot classic actors. Louis Hayward's like Robert Taylor in the 1930s/James Bond. Maybe more like a British Robert Taylor. He was SOOOO COOOOL! He's all "Lombard. Phillip Lombard." Very cool. And it just thrilled me when he said "Get a grip on yourself, darling!" He was wonderful, so it's a shame he wasn't more popular. The whole DVD is very nicely packaged and the image is very clear. Even the scenes in the dark are. So in all, this DVD is a good buy. I really loved the ending to the movie, which was better than the novel's. The play had the same ending as the movie, and it was also written by Christie. THis is a great movie, so go out and rent it or buy it. I'm buying it!
5-0 out of 5 stars And Then There Were None
I have always liked good, well produced old films. The old actors put a lot into their performances.

3-0 out of 5 stars What starts out very well ends in small disappointments...
This film, based on the book of the same name (also titled: Ten Little Indians), is one I've been wanting to see for years. It is well acted and has the right atmosphere, but unfortunately the makers felt that they had to wrap up the movie with a happy little ending...how un-agatha.I was very disappointed in the ending, indeed, but the film is still worth at least one viewing, even if you feel like throwing something at the tv in the end. ... Luc Besson is often described as the "French Spielberg," preferring large stylish popular films. For this film, the French Academy of Cinema nominated him as Best Director. While he would eventually win the French award for "The Fifth Element," this film also represents Jean Reno's sole French award nomination as Best Actor.Neither did the film win the 1994 Best Film award in France, for which it was nominated.
4-0 out of 5 stars which version is the best?
so I bought the two disc deluxe edition last night from barnes and noble after an exhaustive attempt to discover which version of this dvd is the best. The DE is not it. The Uncut International Version is the only version that has, to my knowledge, all the original scenes that were later cut for american audiences. Both the Deluxe Edition and the Uncut International Version have the same listed running time, at 133 minutes each. However, after watching the DE, I realized that they are not the same, that at least one of the controversial "love" scenes between portman and reno has been cut. Even though the scenes are perhaps a bit uncomfortable, there is a tenderness to them that ties the whole film together in a way that none of the cut versions can quite accomplish. I personally don't see them as anything too controversial and I don't really understand why they needed to be cut in the first place. anyhow, my point is this. Buy the Uncut International Version. It is the ONLY complete dvd version of this film. barnes and noble were even good enough to let me exchange my already opened deluxe edition after i explained the situation.

5-0 out of 5 stars - Leon is one hard core hitman with heart.
I originally seen this when it first came out on video but it was the "American version" still was entertaining but it had some holes in it.Just around a year or 2 ago I bought this version and it s much better. If you enjoy movies that have action but also show some depth, this is the movie. Also every character is perfect, Gary Oldman is the highlight as a completely out of control DEA cop who doesn't listen to anyone.Danny Aiello is good too, playing a "Italian restaurant owner/ bank" .Other than that please just see it, then buy it. ... Editorial Review

This smart, tautly directed thriller from Wolfgang Petersen is about the cat-and-mouse games between a Secret Service agent named Horrigan (Clint Eastwood) and the brilliant, psychopathic assassin (John Malkovich) who's itching to get the President in his cross hairs. The back-story--Horrigan is haunted by his inability to prevent John Kennedy's assassination (Eastwood is computer-generated into archival footage)--is more than a little hokey, but the plotting itself is smartly, even ingeniously, constructed. Petersen manages a viselike grip on the tension and Eastwood even gets to deliver an ever-more-timely lecture on the diminished nature of the office of President. Eastwood's as gruff and as infuriating to the by-the-book Powers That Be as ever, and Malkovich oozes delightful menace. Renee Russo capably costars as a colleague with whom Horrigan gets friendly. 5-0 out of 5 stars John Malkovich is Great.
Movies about presidential assassinations (whether fictional or non-fictional) are usually lame. They follow the same formula and they always end the same. I guess, technically, "In the Line of Fire" is nothing new for this kind of movie but it's got an exciting plot, awesome acting, and well basically...Despite the familar formula, it's a damn good movie. Clint Eastwood plays a Secret Service agent named Frank Horrigan, who is still haunted by the fact that he could've saved Kennedy from being assassinated had he reacted quicker. Since this incident, Frank has been reduced to a drunken under-cover Secret Service agent who longs for something meaninful to happen. It does in the form of Mitch Leary (John Malkovich, in an Oscar nominated performance). After Frank follows up on a tip that Leary may be up to something, he recieves a phone call from Leary who tells him that he is going to assassinate the Presidents. It seems doors are re-opening for Frank. As Frank and Leary begin talking to each other over the phone, while Frank and the rest of the agents descend upon the case it becomes clear that Leary is no ordinary crazy assassin. Rene Russo co-stars as Lilly Raines, a female Secret Service agent and the love interest of Frank. Dylan McDermott also co-stars as Frank's partner Al. Anyway, the plot is good...It has its moments of predictability, but I actually must admit that Leary's decision at the end genuinely surprised me. Anyway, I don't watch many Eastwood movies (I've only seen some movies he's directed, Any Which Way You Can, Escape from Alcatraz, and that's about it); I think, in all, I've seen 5 movies he's acted in. But I can honestly say that this is, probably, one of his strongest performances. Malkovich is what made me want to see this movie, the man is an amazing actor folks. Every film I've seen him in, he fascinates the viewer. Here, the casting doesn't get much better for his role. I can't think of another actor who could play Leary as well as Malkovich. I'm not sure if it was Tommy Lee Jones (The Fugitive) or Martin Landau (Ed Wood) he lost the Oscar to, but this is a completely Oscar worthy performance here. Russo is good (she has the strong look of a career woman, but can be vulnerable to Franks "charm."), as is the rest of the cast.
5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding. One of my favorite Clint Eastwood Titles...
Review Clarification:This review is based on my viewing of this movie in the theater, and on Laser Disc.I have not viewed the DVD (any version).
5-0 out of 5 stars Destined for the Classics
I'm convinced that if this movie were to hit the theaters this upcoming weekend, it would be a hit - again! It is just so very well done (and would surely be a relief from all the foof that is playing now.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Why are scenes cut from this dvd?????
I really enjoyed this film, but there were a few scenes that didn't make sense to me until I watched it on tv one day. As it turns out, scenes were cut on the dvd and not the tv version which normally is the other way around. Then those odd scenes made sense. Plus, no special features which is surprising. The movie itself is suspenseful and somewhat of a nail biter. Depp and Walken are excellent as usual and the plot also holds your interest. No need to explain the plot as others have already indicated it in their reviews. Don't let the cut scenes keep you from watching this film. I hope in the future, they come out with the uncut version.

5-0 out of 5 stars "critics" don't know CRAP!
The guy who wrote the "official" Amazon review once again proves that the "critics" don't know anything. What does he think he was trying to prove? That he can make a name for himself by bashing the top-notch actors and screenplay?Come on!We all know that the book is better 99% of the time!!That being said, this movie is a CLASSIC, pure and simple. The setting on the beautiful island of Majorica, Spain, is incredible! The villa/resort where the story takes place is magnificent, and the interplay of the actors is just great.Ustinov rules in his portrayal of the famed detective.I have watched and will watch this movie until I die, how do we delete the official bash, uh, I mean review of this film??

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun, fun, fun, fun, fun
I saw this film for the first time on cable and fell in love with it's bitch filled dialogue and cast. The Mediterranean settings are beautiful, costumes delightfully over the top and witty dialogue that lets the marvelous cast go not only for the jugular, but for bone marrow. Who can resist Dame Maggie Smith and Dame Diana Rigg ripping each other to shreds, all the while smiling at each other like the dearest of friends. Dame Maggie's line about Diana throwing her legs in the air higher than anybody else in the chorus is classic. Peter Ustinov is, as always, a delight as Hercule Poirot. All in all, it's a very fun film to watch and I'll bet you'll never guess where the missing diamond is hidden. Enjoy this film for the wonderfully fun bit of froth that it is.

Also every character is perfect, Gary Oldman is the highlight as a completely out of control DEA cop who doesn't listen to anyone.Danny Aiello is good too, playing a "Italian restaurant owner/ bank" .Other than that please just see it, then buy it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars One of those love it or hate it films, I suppose...I love it!
All the critics hated it.About half the people who have reviewed it here hate it. I'm with the other half.I love this film -- I've watched it at least seven times and it's still entertaining. It kind of reminds me of people's reaction to Chronicles of Riddick -- I happened to love that film but critics panned it and a lot of people thought the film less than stellar.
1-0 out of 5 stars Total rip-off of "For a Fistful of Dollars"
Watched it 2 days ago and could not believe how much they copied/stole from "For a Fistful of Dollars." Just about everything. What a letdown...

4-0 out of 5 stars Not perfect but still good
John Smith (Bruce Willis) is a hired gun who just hit the mother load. After wondering into the small ghost town of Jericho, Texas he's given the oportunity to play two rival gangs against each other, getting paid by each side to fight for them. The tables turn, things go bad and blood is spilled.First off it's not perfect, but as far as western/gangster films is concerned it's pretty good. The action is there, quite a bit of it to say the least, and Bruce is just so good at this he makes these movies look effortless, jumping and shooting and dodging and all that jazz.Anyways, I like it, but I love Bruce Willis and Christopher Walken so this was a must see for me.I find it humorus that Amazon suggested this to me because I wrote a review for 'Color of Night' when the ONLY simularity is Bruce Willis's @$$...still looks good :P ... This controversial, 1974 drama exploits urban paranoia and presents vigilantism as cathartic release. But it is also a captivating, Everyman-ish story of a New Yorker who goes through a sea change after crime depletes his family, and who runs afoul of the law while taking it into his own hands. Charles Bronson stars as the vengeance-seeking urban warrior who goes on a punk-killing spree after his wife and daughter are attacked by intruders. Director Michael Winner (Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars the one shot(no pun intended)serious first "death wish"
this isn't the light hearted sequels that were put out after this one went threw the roof, this is very serious and was ground breaking in it's day!
2-0 out of 5 stars Can we say: o-v-e-r-r-a-t-e-d?
Classic movie my white behind!More like possible camp classic, but in actuality not quite incompetant enough for that. This is simply a stinky movie that has aged worse than limburger (which I happen to quite like, if it's fresh and very thinly sliced - which my local deli does acceptably well).Charles Bronson, may he rest in peace, was indeed a screen legend but his acting abilities were limited... to one facial expression. The dubbing on this movie makes it seem almost like a foreign flick, albeit without any kickbutt kung-fu action! The "villians" (among them young Jeff Goldbum) are laughable and very nearly something out of a Troma movie.I will not examine the "feminist" or "neo-femme" implications of this movie, because it was made in a (thankfully) bygone era when such concerns did not generally surface in Hollywood productions. But it is safe to say this film is a relic best approached as a mild comedy.

4-0 out of 5 stars The best in the series
Charles Bronson reminds me of John Wayne, as their facial expressions don't really change no matter what the situation they're faced with is.This movie made Charles Bronson a star. Could someone tell me what part Jeff Goldblum played in this movie. Was he the tall, bald, thug?I don't recall him in this movie. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Re-visiting U.S. MARSHALS : An Appreciation
There are times when re-viewing a film that seemed powerful at the first viewing can be even better on the second time around. Such is the case for this viewer with US MARSHALS, a film made in 1998 but one that remains one of the finest of the genre of chase thrillers.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very Worthy Sequel To A Great Film
This is an outstanding sequel to an outstanding movie The Fugitive (1993). In this film, the focus is on the team that was searching for Dr. Richard Kimble in the first movie. That team was led by Tommy Lee Jones, who won an Oscar for his performance, which probably helped spur this sequel. It worked, as Jones and company (Joe Pantoliano and others) are just as much fun to watch as they were in The Fugitive.

Editorial Review

Author Michael Crichton and director Philip Kaufman had a falling-out over the script for this film, based on Crichton's best-selling novel (which was controversial for its take on the Japanese invasion of American business in the early '90s). Kaufman ultimately won, doing an above-average job creating a murder mystery based on the culture clash between Los Angeles cops and Japanese multinational business interests. When a prostitute is murdered at the opening of a new L.A. headquarters for a Japanese company, detective Wesley Snipes is forced to call upon retired cop (and Japanophile) Sean Connery to help solve the murder. But he runs into obstruction from the Japanese, as well as a high-tech cover-up, while having to deal with anti-Japanese sentiments from people on his own team. Intriguing if overlong. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Whoa -- BAD CASTING!
Ever wonder why there are only 20-odd reviews of this film on Amazon? Seems incredible given that this was one of the biggest releases of 1993. The book was a HUGE success. That's because in the annals of filmdom there might not be a more egregious example of miscasting than in this film.
5-0 out of 5 stars Rising Sun--A glitzy, fast-moving Crighton story
Dark, deep, filled with action, intrigue. Excellent acting. I wanted this Crighton story for my own film library.

4-0 out of 5 stars The clash of two cultures!
Kaufman's adaptation of Michael Crichton's Japan-bashing potboiler is a realtively light approach, a simple buddy-cop movie featuring a pair of entertaining star performances. In spite of the fact the novel's alarmism about the dangers of a dominant Japan would soon be undercovered by a mellow script that confers much more importance to the opposite views between Eastern and Western worlds around a lot of issues, the director muted the xenophobic material that had made the book so terrific and brutal, transforming it into an interesting film, whose plot is nourished by great visual effects and the stunning differences between both cultures, with Sean Connery working out as the common link between two ways of life with a great doses of suggested violence and alarming use of the technology to create unexpeceted accusations. Yet Sean Connery makes a very credible performance, as the detective, the script seems uncapable to surmount the anecdothic character of good guys and bad guys, and the ominous presence of the Japanese mob with pretensions of Noir Film, the picture leaves us a bitter taste, because even if there are good sequences, the whole material promised best best and major intentions.

5-0 out of 5 stars one of eastwood'sand siegel's best
the beguiled is one of eastwood's and director don siegel's best pairings and the clostest thing clint ever did to a horror movie. i'll say nothing else about that but this civil war gothic thriller will leave you with a chill running up your back. as a yank soldier wounded in battle he finds himself taken in by the girls of a school and being nurseed back to health. clint playes the bad guy here really so before long he is using the women for his own needs. from there well you just have to watch this underrated thriller and see. you will never forget this creepy little thriller i just know you won't. turn down the lights and let the film creep over you

5-0 out of 5 stars the hens show the rooster whose boss.
An excellently realised film focusing on that ever so mysterious relations between men and women. Especially those that are tainted by personal gain, manupilation, lies, deceipt, lust, jelousy, revenge and a pile of control issues. This dark, gothicall- girlsboarding house is well occupied by the brilliantleads (as well as an outstanding cast of assorted fine young actresses): a very handsome Clint Eastwood ( as a handicappedsoldier fresh from battle and eventually a very compromised object of desire)and therare, unique andgifted Geraldine Page as the ruthless headmistress with some scandalous secretsto hide. Once the lies are discovered , the plot chargesdangerouslyahead to a wonderfully stunning conclusion that will leave you silent.Fortunately , hollywood hasn't felt the need to refilm thisextremely UNDERATED psycho-chiller.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Performances All Around

5-0 out of 5 stars Hard To Kill.
I love this movie.Rated R for strong martial-arts action,violence,language,and some sexuality.Not for children.

4-0 out of 5 stars "I'm gonna take you to the bank Senator. To the blood bank."
It's hard to hate Hard to Kill, but you will also find it hard to avoid soiling yourself after being subjected to the unintentional humor inherant in any quality Seagal flick, this one no exception. Grasshopper Steven portrays Mason Storm, a man brutally cut down in his home by crooked cops and presumed dead... that is until he shows signs of life in the emergency room and is kept alive in a coma for years. He awakens in the 1990s with the beautiful Kelly LeBrock as his nurse and soon realizes that he is being sought out by the same cops that attempted to murder him years earlier. Seagal manages to recall a shady Senator through a memory lapse and promises to take him to the blood bank. Some other humorous moments include Seagal punching a wood plank out of its ground anchor during his training sessions, Seagal covered with smoking acupuncture needles during therapy, Seagal throwing a tribal mask over the head of a defeated enemy, etc. Another winner.

2-0 out of 5 stars Story and Action is Lacking
This movie starts out well enough. The first fight scene is quick but entertaining. The plot thickens as his family is slain and he is in a coma, unbeknownst of the Bad guys (they think he died also). But while Seagal delivers a strong performance in a poorly directed movie, everything else crumbles.Le Brock, then married to Seagal, is poor as the nurse bringing Seagal back to health so he can clear his name and wallop the bad guys.Bill Sadler is OK as the sinister, power hungry senator, but the movies fight scenes are boring and people are knocked out in unrealistic fashion (a lot of Glass Jaw Joes in this film).

4-0 out of 5 stars A witness to a murder, a lethal train journey, and Gene Hackman to make it interesting
So what if some critics say that Peter Hyams' Narrow Margin is filled with improbable coincidences, train-hunt cliches, characters who obviously may not be good guys, and the strenuous activities of a 60-year-old star which would lead to heart attacks for the rest of us. With all that I still think that the film is a lot of fun, a satisfying adventure that relies successfully on two things: First, the proven attractiveness of a murderous, extended hunt in the confines of a moving train; and second, the skill and personality of Gene Hackman.
4-0 out of 5 stars An atmospheric thriller quickie
Peter Hyams' remake of Richard Fleisher's 1952 The Narrow Margin focuses more on atmosphere and scenery than it does film noir. It does make for a cool, if a bit too short, movie.
4-0 out of 5 stars MISSED BEING A CLASSIC BY A "NARROW MARGIN" INDEED
If it weren't for the rushed ending, this movie'd be listed high up there with LA Confidential and Fugitive in terms of an action packed thriller. And for good reason -- it's lean, crisp, and nail-biting suspense. Read more

Steven Seagal has always been an awkward action hero. Initially, he hada certain amount of credibility thanks to his nebulous association with secret government agencies and mastery of aikido, which helped to excuse his bad acting. But as a self-righteous action hero in the vein of Schwarzenegger and Stallone (which helps to explain his bad acting), Seagal fell into unintentional self-parody faster and more dramatically than either of his two predecessors. 5-0 out of 5 stars Seagal's Best Action Flick
I think this movie is Steven Seagal's best. Let's face it, we watch Seagal for his awesome fighting techniques. "Out For Justice" has action spread evenly throughout. He is a man on a mission to do whatever it takes to take out the bad guys who killed his partner. Often action movies tend to turn to too much storyline and they get away from what makes action movies exciting. This one will not disappoint you! Plenty of great fighting...
