2-0 out of 5 stars ok, so it's meant for kids, but..........
i usually like these kinds of movies. i enjoy the santa clause movies, finding nemo, ya know, kid targeted films. and this one started out with so much promise, but fell flat on its face when they tried to incorporate the story too much. Billy Connolly did the best he could with what he was given. but i gotta say myer and hewitt and even odie, yes, odie, should be left out altogether. UNLESS, they too are cgi. because here is the problem. for kids that are new to garfield, they probably won't care, but for kids like me (and i'm 30), i grew up with garfield as my favorite comic strip. i watched the xmas special and i'm used to everyone in the comic having that certain big eyed, cartoony look to them. here, all you have is garfield that resembles anything from the comic strip. odie, while being a cute dog, IS A REAL DOG! ok, i have to go, so here's my point: make the entire cast CGI and take some of the stories from the comic strip and you could have a seriously long running franchise that will actually be enjoyable. i give it the 2 stars because the team of animators for garfield did EXCELLENT work. the rest of the cast is as annoying as nermal....

3-0 out of 5 stars A Tale of TWO Big Fat Cats -- Better Than the Original
In spite of its underwhelming results on the US box-office, the second live-action `Garfield' is better than the first one made only two year before. CGI of the titular cat has become more refined, and the voice acting of Bill Murray is spot-on as ever. Plus, this time you got an impressive list of voice actors from the UK - Jane Horrocks, Rhys Ifans, Bob Hoskins, Richard E. Grant, and Vinnie Jones.

5-0 out of 5 stars Interjection...HEY! This Is Great For Kids!
Are you a parent now that remembers these from your childhood and you're asking yourself, "Could Schoolhouse Rock! possibly still be as captivatingly educational as it was in the 70s?" or perhaps you're saying to yourself, "These are so dated my kids would never stay tuned." Let's put it this way...This is one of my kids' most requested DVDs (ages three through seven), and they walk around the house singing about nouns, the branches of the government, counting by 5s, electricity and the National 'Tyrannosaurus' Debt.
5-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, Educational, and a Touch of Nostalgia
Those of us who grew up as kids in the 80's will remember watching these short animation clips on TV, accompanied by catchy music and memorable lyrics. These cartoonish music videos that lasted less than five minutes somehow managed to teach us concepts that required dedicated lesson plans in school. This is the essence of Schoolhouse Rock.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have
Charlie Brown is classic. You'll love his simple style and humor and the kids will too.It reminds me of simpler times in life without all the clutter and business of today. There's no fighting, special powers, x-ray vision, etc.Just Charlie Brown and the gang learning about life and teaching important lessons along the way.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Cinderella is the film that saved the Walt Disney Company.
5-0 out of 5 stars Walt Disney's Best Movie
Disney made its mark as a major studio in 1937 with its first full-length feature film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. Ironically, given this early success, Snow White was their only hit movie for the next 13 years. World War II kicked the hell out of Disney's overseas markets. Even movies today regarded as classic Disney - Pinnochio, Bambi, Fantasia - lost money on initial release. Disney eked through by diversifying into training films for the US government, and the South American films that were part of FDR's Good Neighbor policy, etc. - stuff that made back its costs but not much more. By 1948, Disney was in dire financial straits. They had just enough money for one more movie. Walt Disney realized he needed a hit or his studio probably wouldn't survive, and it would have to be what they did best: a full-length animated feature film. Walt said to himself, "What we need is a movie about a girl in trouble. Audiences love that. They loved Snow White." That's what he wanted: a movie like Snow White, but even more so - more comedy, more drama, more magic, more music, more lovable characters. He chose as the basis of his company's Hail Mary pass arguably the most famous fairy tale in the world: Cinderella.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lady and the Tramp....Going into the Vault!
Disney has announced that in January the Lady and the Tramp DVD will be put into the vault!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Most Romantic of All Disney Films
I fell in love with this movie when I was little, back in 1955 when "Lady and the Tramp" first came to the theaters, and am probably one of the few who can actually remember seeing the promo show, "The Story of Dogs" on the old Disneyworld TV series from the early 50's.I actually had the rare privildge of being taken twice! To this day, it remains my all-time favorite Disney film, favorite dog film, and continues to charm, amuse, and move me to tears.
5-0 out of 5 stars Romantic Comedy Goes to the Dogs
Lady and the Trap has been an enduring Disney classic for 50 years now and it's amazing how well it holds up after all that time. The hand painted animation is beautiful and the story and music are top notch. This film is an example of Disney animation at its classic best.

Tad, Leap, and Lily hop from the pages of the amazingly popular Leap Pad learning toys onto the television screen in this attention grabbing phonics program.Tad's disappointment at being unable to help his family with an important presentation at the letter factory quickly turns to excitement when he meets Professor Quigley and joins each of the letters of the alphabet in their own fun-filled classroom devoted to learning their unique sound.Tad practices karate kicks with the k's, digs the vibes with the cool cat d's drumming on the bongos, and snores peacefully with the z's while learning to recognize each letter and the sound it makes.A catchy, fun song serves as a summation of each letter's "class" and entices even the most reluctant of toddlers (and their parents) to sing each letter's sound. An interactive game follows the program and gives children a chance to practice their newfound skills of recognizing letters and their sounds.Consumers expect great educational products from LeapFrog and this DVD won't disappoint. 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent DVD
I can't say enough good things about this DVD.My son started watching this at about 2 1/2 and he knew the letters and their sounds in a few weeks. Now that he is about to be 3, he still uses the sounds and the sayings from the DVD whenever he sees a particular letter.I have recommended this one to all my friends and family.

5-0 out of 5 stars Still watching after over a year
My now 4 year old son and 2 1/2 daughter love this video and I even enjoy it from time to time. They sometimes actually request it over other favorites. When we are outside playing or gardening, we'll sing the song that goes along with the video for extra practice on which letters make which sounds and my son does really good.My daughter however loses interest quickly and goes off to play with something else.Leap Frog has done it again!

Pixar Studios have done it again. I have to say that these guys are totally good in computer animation, as well as in storytelling. Rarely do those qualities come together but here they are, delivering unto the audience once again something that one can only be drowned with wonder. Such is the marvel of Finding Nemo.

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is a charming and playful Halloween story that adults and kids will love. Bing Crosby's smooth tones are the perfect accompaniment for this old-fashionied cartoon - perfect for snuggling under the covers on a dark, rainy night! 5-0 out of 5 stars A Tale As Old As Time Done Right
Beauty and the Beast may well be the very best animated film Disney ever produced. The characterizations of the leads are great as we have the sweet book loving Belle and the the flawed but totally redeemable "Beast".Gaston and Belle's father are also well drawn and memorable as are the comic relief bearing "enchanted" servants at the castle. There's something for everyone as the story is so romantic it leaves a lot of grown up ladies sighing, the bad guys are not too scary for the little ones and for the rest it is just a great tale.Plus Beauty and the Beast has some of the best songs ever written for a Disney production. No wonder the Broadway musical hasbeen such a hit as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tied for first for best Disney feature
I must've been about 10 when I first saw the Lion King and I was practically floored. Those catchy-for-their-own-good songs, the animation(well, me now talking) and that wildebeast stampede. The other one is Beauty and the Beast which for the life of me I can't remember seeing when I was young yet loved every minute of it. Revisiting it now I still love it and on one hand seeing it as a landmark in Disney's catalogue but also one in a series of films that marked a brief creative comeback.
2-0 out of 5 stars Beauty and the Beast
Yep, Disney animation. All my students see this movie at some point between leaving high school and when I meet them as university students. Sometimes, their Chinese university teachers show it to them in class. So, I thought I'd see why they love it so much. I'm still wondering. This is a two-page short story, not a film. But on the bright side, if you skip all the songs it's under an hour. I've never enjoyed a singing toon in my life. ... Read more

Building words is an exciting and empowering experience for youngchildren (and frogs) who have mastered individual letters and their sounds. When young Tad wants to nominate his Dad for a "Best Dad" contest he askshis brother Leap and sister Lily for some help filling out the application. The three young frogs go see Professor Quigley at their Father's TalkingWord Factory for a little instruction and get to watch the"Sticky-ick-o-rama" and the "Word Whammer" machines at work.Tad quicklydiscovers that vowels act as the glue that sticks letters together and thenlearns to combine individual letter sounds to make three-letter words, usecommon ending sounds to create rhyming words, and blend letter sounds tomake even longer rhyming words.Phonemic awareness, vocabulary building, and rhyming are entertaining and fun thanks to familiar Leap Padcharacters, colorful animation, and short songs. An interactive wordgame challenges young viewers to fill in the missing first letterin a variety of three-letter words. This program is a great next step forgraduates of Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great tool in helping your little one to read...
If you're thinking of buying this DVD for your 4 or 5 year old DON'T HESITATE!!! This video will be a blessing to your little one. I'm a homeschooling mom and this video has 'turned-on' the light to pre-reading for my [...] year old. I don't like to use the TV as a 'baby sitter' but when I do, this is what I run to. My son has started reading at 4 and I give all the credit to this video! He can point to a letter and make it's sound, then does the same for another two letters and then he puts the sounds together! He can read the words NO, YES, BED, CAT, DOG, MIX, and some others as well. It's just amazing...not only that, but it keeps him entertained too and it's totally clean!!! Buy this DVD and it will help your little one overcome the challenges in pre-reading.

Editorial Review

Not an ideal choice for younger kids, this hip and violent animated feature from Disney was nevertheless a huge smash in theaters and on video, and it continues to enjoy life in an acclaimed Broadway production. The story finds a lion cub, son of a king, sent into exile after his father is sabotaged by a rivalrous uncle. The little hero finds his way into the "circle of life" with some new friends and eventually comes back to reclaim his proper place. Characters are very strong, vocal performances by the likes of Jeremy Irons, Nathan Lane, and Whoopi Goldberg are terrific, the jokes are aimed as much (if not more) at adults than kids, the animation is sometimes breathtaking, and the music is more palatable than in many Disney features. But be cautious: this is too intense for the

4-0 out of 5 stars Monarchies tend to create dysfunctional families.
Disney's "The Lion King" is a pretty good movie about a young lion cub, named Simba, who is to become king of a place called Pride Rock located in the appropriately named Pride Lands. I always thought that the part where Simba's father, Mufasa, is killed by his brother, Scar, was kind of tough to watch. On the other hand, from a historical standpoint, scenarios like these were at some point a commoplace reality, all because of an intense desire for power. The most memorable part of the film is the scene where Scar turns on the hyenas, to whom he'd referred as the "real enemy," then tries to make up with them right afterwards by calling them his "friends." The best part was the subsequent reaction by the hyenas to his double crossing.
5-0 out of 5 stars il'd love to give this 20 out of 5 stars
this movie was incredable. i don't understand how people can dislike this film. this movie's deep and intense story made it great for children AND their parents, a feat rarely accomplished. but rather than stay depressing and traumatizing, this film goes from drama to side-splitting humor within 13 seconds. the best part is that this is all done with seemless perfection.
1-0 out of 5 stars dont mess with classics

Charlie Brown gets rocks in his trick-or-treat bag, Linus awaits a visitation from the Great Pumpkin in his terribly sincere pumpkin patch (while the adoring little Sally sits tight with him), Snoopy falls asleep, Lucy harasses Schroeder, and Pig-Pen kicks up a dust storm even beneath his costume in this classic television broadcast. Funny stuff, but also graced with Charles Schultz's more poignant and gently satiric themes from the 1960s on the influence of faith, failure, and hope in our lives. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Greatest Animated Films of All Time
If film makers could figure out how to make a film like "Bambi" every time, the art of film making would be just that; an art."Bambi" is a tale that is for children. However, that tale contains every element present in the life of a typical child: friendship, love, parental protection, loss, fear of the unknown, and, of course, growing up.I am still astonished at how a film that clocks in at 69 minutes can capture the essence of life.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Movie Ever!
They worked very hard on bambi. Its not like the new movies. The animators work hard to make it good.Efforts the key.And the dvd has great bonus features. And the movie itself is way better on dvd.The sound is 5.3.The best sond.Especially when you hae a sterio. They remastered it great. They didnt just rush and put it on.So you would love this movie.Especially on platinum edition. So I highly reccomend Bambi the best Disney film ever.

Imaginatively rendered but slightly chilly, this 1951 Disney adaptation of the Lewis Carroll classic is also appropriately surreal. Alice (voiced by Kathryn Beaumont) has all the anticipated experiences: shrinking and growing, meeting the White Rabbit, having tea with the Mad Hatter, etc. Characterization is very strong, and the Disney team worked hard to bring screen personality to Carroll's eccentric creations. For a Disney film, however, it seems more the self-satisfied sum of its inventiveness than a truly engaging experience. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars The cartoon series that led to the destruction of Generation X minds...
This cartoon series sucks.Adequate animation, horrible scripts, even for a cartoon.Always the same plot, always the same resolution, and always the same line "I would have gotten away with this if it wasn't for you meddling kids.".Generation X grew up watching this tripe, and they continually obsess about it to this day on how bad it is.They have yet to admit that it destroyed their young minds with its mediocrity.

5-0 out of 5 stars Share your childhood memories with your own kids!
Some of my fondest memories of cartoon watching as a child were those involving Scooby Doo. It wasn't just us kids, but also the adults who loved Scooby and the Gang. I was delighted to find this collection to purchase and share with my own children. Wow, what a groovy blast from the past! My kids are loving it and we now have a group of neighborhood kids who are learning all about Scooby and watching this DVD set at our house:) ... Read more

Editorial Review

Disney's 1967 animated feature seems even more entertaining now than it did upon first release, with a hall-of-fame vocal performance by Phil Harris as Baloo, the genial bear friend of feral child Mowgli. Based on fiction by Rudyard Kipling, the film goes its own way as Disney animation will, but the strong characters and smart casting (George Sanders as the villainous tiger, Shere Khan) make it one of the studio's stronger feature-length cartoons. Songs include "The Bare Necessities" and "Trust in Me." Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Stop Limiting Issues
I don't have this dvd and wouldn't buy it unless i was desperate.Disney is always pulling stuff like this: "Limited Issue, Limited Adition, Limited time Only", To Be Perfectly honest, it's becoming quite annoying. The only point i could think of for owning this dvd is because it's "dvd". However i believe it is a waste of money and a vhs copy is sufficent at this point. When they put it out again it should have the special features it deserves.

5-0 out of 5 stars Funny, cute and exciting!
This animated Disney classic is about a orphan named Mowgli, who lives in the jungle and befriends all kinds of animals such as elephants, a bear named Baloo, and other naimals.
3-0 out of 5 stars A mix-up between good and bad
Disney's THE JUNGLE BOOK seems rather irrelevant today when you look at the film. The movie was made in 1967, a time when the Golden Age of Animation was clearly over, especially for Disney. Watching this movie on laserdisc a couple of days ago I noticed how grainy the animation looked. And one shot looked like it was an exact copy of another shot. I understand whyDisney used did every single thing by hand--painstakingly doing it frame by frame. Every thing was carefully detailed. But by the 1960's it was too expensive to do. They started cutting corners. The animation grew worse in the 1970's, and it wasn't until new technology came out in the 80's that animation regained its glory.
