5-0 out of 5 stars Discomfort and Realism Have Never Been So Funny
The Office almost didn't succeed. It wasn't because it wasn't funny (it is), wasn't well-acted (it is), or due to poor reviews (critics loved it); people were too afraid that it would pale in comparison to the British series of the same name upon which this show is based. Also, it is a very different style of comedy, which is a huge turn-off to people who are comfortable with the numerous (read: cookie cutter) sitcoms that flood the airwaves each year (Arrested Development fans know what I'm talking about).Anyway, with only a 6 episode first season, things looked pretty grim.Fortunately, the show was able to stay on the air long enough to win over a respectable fanbase, and now it looks like it will be here for a while. But about that first season...
5-0 out of 5 stars The Beginning of Someting Incredible!!!!!
If you want someting new, something fresh, something different; The Office, season 1, is for you!Not incorporating your regular "set up and punch line" comedy, this show will definatly have you laughing out loud.
5-0 out of 5 stars The season that started it all
Office hype is all over the media these days. The show won an emmy and Steve Carrell is "hot" right now.So, if you've become a fan of the show during the second or third season, you need to buy this DVD so you can see where it all began.

5-0 out of 5 stars Astounding
I am not sure how they are going to keep the momentum of this wonderful show going. The characters are stronger and the plot even better than season one.I found myself unable to stop thinking about the masterfully done plot of this series for days. Not since Babylon 5, has there been this kind of quality in TV.I am amazed.Wonderful! The best show on TV period!

4-0 out of 5 stars Starting with the cliffhangers of the first season
As if there weren't enough cliffhangers at the end of the first season, another one is thrown in the mix to complicate matters. We start with Adama being in critical condition, a team is stranded on Kobol, and Starbuck is back on Caprica with Helo and another Sharon while looking for an arrow. Then a jump ends with the rest of the fleet, including the doctor, being sent somewhere other than where Galactica ends up.It takes several episodes to wind all of these things up which technically make it the slowest part of the season in terms of time passing in the series.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great entertainment for fans of the show
I have waited patiently until the release of the second half of Season 2 to buy this "2.0" set, comprising of the first 10 episodes of the show's second season, hoping in vain for a better whole season package or a cheaper bundle deal. Alas, we didn't get either of those, and I would wait no longer.

    5-0 out of 5 stars FOX's Redemption
I swore I would never forgive FOX network for cancelling my beloved Firefly. While I still haven't forgiven them, I've ended my boycott of their channel solely for this show. House is, in a word, incredible. Hugh Laurie, Robert Sean Leonard, Omar Epps, Jennifer Morrison, Jesse Spencer, and Lisa Edelstein each give extremely nuanced performances and breath life into the smartly written scripts. I'm generally not a big fan of medical dramas (I strongly dislike ER, and I'm fully prepared to be flamed for this next statement: I hate Grey's Anatomy). House is different. Each episode provides a new medical case that is well thought out, and the character development of each main player is present from the first episode on. This is one show that should not be missed. You never know what show the "geniuses" at FOX will cancel next.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fast Moving
The fist season starts out fast and strong.Battlestar Galactica and the fleet it protects have made over two-hundred jumps trying to outrun the Cylons who seem to be able to track them through jumps.Getting out of this has Adama and the president making very tough decisions. From there the series develops quickly. We see lots more about Cylon agents and some of the sleeper agents. We see the fleet have to locate resources and deal with dissidents within the fleet. The presidency gets challenged and a Vice President is elected.Adama and the President have a showdown. The fleet discovers Kobol and gets a step closer to discovering the location of Earth. Finally the season ends with a triple cliffhanger that will want you to go right into season 2.0.
1-0 out of 5 stars this is knock-me-out terrible!
i rented this mini series and prepared to sit thru all night to finish it. but it turned out to be so bad that i couldn't even finish the 1st disk. terrible script, bad graphics, bad actings, stupid dialogue...what else could i add here? i was so disappointed but at the same time so happy that i didn't buy it just paid $1.50(including sales tax), and i'll try to collect more plastic bottles to recycle center getting this wasted $1.50 back. sigh....

5-0 out of 5 stars Caught me completely by surprise
Battlestar Galactica was always one of those shows that it's not that I never got into it, I just never got around to it. Certain shows I don't have an interest of getting into while other ones end just while interest is building. So it was with a worry and anticipation that I decided to watch the show. As I kept watching, I wondered something: am I still watching because I'm addicted or because I can't stand having shows unfinished. Well it has to be the latter cause I'm dipping into season 2 now so it's obviously a really great show.

5-0 out of 5 stars arrested development is back for more
One thing about Arrested Development that I forgot to mention in my previous review is how the humor holds up nicely over the years. What I found funny last year when I was watching the show is JUST as consistently funny now.In fact, now that I understand the style of humor better, I think the show is even funnier now.
5-0 out of 5 stars please let me go I won't tell anybody, including the police
If you loved the first season then you will love this one as well. Some of the charactersand plots are a little bit crazier than the first season. It doesn't get old or stale like some shows do. It seems that the show kept on being way out there compared to other shows instead of trying to copy them for better ratings.
5-0 out of 5 stars What is up FOX NETWORK?
Fox seems to come out with some of the best shows and then for some reason they start changing things around. Every Sunday night my family was sure to be watching Fox. I just don't understand. They either move a great show to a time I don't know or can't watch or cancel the show. Bernie Mac is another show that seemed to get lost. Stop moving your great shows around or cancelling them. ... Throughout his long, wandering, often distinguished career Francis Ford Coppola has made many films that are good and fine, many more that are flawed but undeniably interesting, and a handful of duds that are worth viewing if only because his personality is so flagrantly absent. 1-0 out of 5 stars I refuse the offer
What we have here is, basically, two, because who actually has seen or even likes the third, of the most overblown, overhyped and unjustifiably overrated American films of all time.
5-0 out of 5 stars Dark & Delightful
I enjoyed watching these movies so much, I wish I had bought the DVDs a long time ago. Its amazing to see how the Part-III was made 18 years after part-I was made and everything looks so continuous if you watch them together. There has been much speculation on how the events in The Godfather novel written by Mario Puzo, the book the film is based on, could be an exposé of true facts. Many believe that the character of Johnny Fontane , for instance, was based on Frank Sinatra's real life, and many of the other characters were modeled after real people. I won't go into that: frankly, I have no idea whether these voices are reliable, although the Frank Sinatra reference seems obviously quite believable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Really Wanted This!
We have enjoyed the Godfather saga ever since it first came out in the 1970s. A young Al Pacino made his mark in this movie and we think that it was one of the roles that enabled to go as far as he has. Also, as a part of our family is from New Jersey, the period scenes of Ellis Island and New York City lets us remember what it was like growing up in that time and lets our family's new generation learn about it too. We have had the collection on VHS for some time, but the opportunity to have it on DVD was too good to pass up. The price was excellent as well, considering that it's all the movies plus the fourth DVD with the behind the scenes stuff.

5-0 out of 5 stars Now THIS is TV!
24 has to be the most thrilling show on TV. If you're tired of shows like Lost or Desperate Housewives, which while good, seem to take perverse pleasure in beating around the bush to the point where you want to put a brick through the screen, take a look at 24. This is how TV should be made. Sharp dialogue. Sharp Characters. Sharp action. But that's not the best of it! What's the most riveting and yet satisfying aspect of 24? The fact that something happens week in week out and, at the end of the series, instead of EVERYTHING building to a cliff-hanger with which to tease you till the start of the next season, 24 delivers the goods and resolves the entire season's storyline. What could be more satisfying? Season 4 is superb. Once you slap a disk in your DVD player, it's so difficult to turn the thing off and stop watching - you just want to keep going and going and... What greater compliment to everyone concerned in its production.

5-0 out of 5 stars Intense
Season Four is intense and well crafted, as are the other seasons. The writers are brilliant with the plot twists and character development. This is my all time favorite show.

5-0 out of 5 stars Solid and effective thriller hovered of beating actuality!
Jack Bauer is the prototype of the efficiency per excellence, he represents the new archetype of the hero of the modernity. His untiring fight against the myriads of powerful international organizations of fanatics and mercenaries who hate US and want to destroy it, infecting it with poisonous gases, bacteriological attacks or a nuclear Apocalypse.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Action Trilogy Ever!!!
The Indiana Jones films are the alpha-omega of action films.Steven Spielberg and George Lucas have certainly made a stunning milestone in film history.Harrison Ford is a brilliant and thrilling Indy, and the 3 heroines in the movies are beautifully acted also.Sean Connery is a funny and likeable father, and Julian Glover (Walter Donovan), and Paul Freeman (Belloq) are the best villians ever! The best film of the 3 is The Last Crusade, which is better plotted, then followed by Raiders, and then Temple of Doom, which is easily the darkest of the 3.If your ready for some thrilling action and high-flying stunts, sit back and enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Man With The Hat
Based on the early-movie cliffhangers he used to watch in theaters, George Lucas created something special: a re-invention of the entire adventure genre. These films waited a long time to make their bow on DVD, much too long for myself, personally. I always loved these films, they had everything to keep your attention riveted all the time. Each of the three films is very different from the others. "Raiders of the Lost Ark", the first and best of the three, introduces us to Indiana Jones, perhaps Lucas's greatest creation. Premiering in 1981, this film was a smash, also receiving an oscar nomination for best picture. Also starring was Karen Allen, perhaps the most even-matched female co-star for Harrisan Ford. It seemed she could give as good she got, and never backed down in any scene. Second was "The Temple of Doom", easily the darkest of the three, and the most intensely exciting. This film is a non-stop thrill ride from start to finish, and doesn't really bother to delve too deeply into personal relationships or charactor. The third film, "The Last Crusade", is possibly the most balanced in terms of plot and charactor, and has the wonderful Sean Connery to steal every scene he's in. The interaction between Indy and Mr. Jones is wonderful. If anyone was to ever play Indiana Jones' father, it was Sean Connery. The forth disc in the set is nothing but bonus features, which are almost as entertaining as the films themselves. These films waited far too long to be released to DVD, and I lay the blame squarely on George Lucas. I've heard he really didn't think DVD would take off like it did, that it was just a phase. It's great he finally realized his mistake and released these fine movies for everyone to enjoy. As with his "Star Wars" trilogy, the Indiana Jones films are cinematic history and should be required for all DVD collections.

This critically acclaimed series got off to a good start, with Kiefer Sutherland shouldering his complex lead role quite nicely. In watching 24's first season sequentially over a five day period, one can see that the series is really a soap opera with guns, and lots of dead bodies. The characters do some pretty stupid things, with Sutherland's daughter (a whiny Elisha Cuthbert) topping the list of dumbdoers with her Stockholm syndrome affection for a basically worthless guy who she thinks is okay because he helps her and mommy escape; but he's the one that got her in the mess in the first place.Cuthbert continues to do stupid things that eventually end up in getting more people killed and her father and mother in further danger. The disassociative amnesia plot with wife Leslie Hope is also a real hard concept to accept.Dennis Haysbert as the African/American presidential hopeful plays his role with stoic power, but his family problems tend to get tedious and repetitive, with his wife being a real pain in the buttuski (although Penny Jarold is quite good in the role).Sarah Clarke as Sutherland's sidekick Nina is quite good as is Carlos Bernard as her beau Tony. The cast overall is exceptional:Xander Berkeley, Richard Burgi, Zeljo Ivanek, even Dennis Hopper with his horrible Bulgarian accent is effective.Credit goes to the writers/directors for keeping things addictively entertaining, although the last episode is quite shocking in its revelations. All in all, 24 was a unique attempt at intelligent drama and succeeded on the most part.On to day 2, now, huh?

4-0 out of 5 stars An instant classic
The first season of 24 is the best, which is saying something because all of them are great. It is intense, fast paced, and not confusing like so many contemporary action shows and movies are.Do not buy this if you cannot afford to buy all of the seasons, because you will end up doing just that.

2-0 out of 5 stars Perfect fodder for Mystery Science Theater 3000
I purchased Season One, never having seen a single episode, on the strength of a friend's recommendation, and watched it in its entirety over the span of about ten evenings. I stuck with it only because my wife enjoyed it and I didn't want to be a spoilsport, which required that I suppress my urge to laugh out loud at the outlandish plot twists, which were many, and the cardboard characters.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best show on tv.
This show is absolutely addicting. My husband even loves it, mostly for the hilarious fight scenes and constant sarcastic remarks! The dialogue is smart and the main character is a total rockstar.I picked up the first season on dvd and had to go out a few days later for the second, it was that good!Catch the third season Tuesdays on the CW (old WB) you won't regret it!

5-0 out of 5 stars The best television show on TV
I must admit that I'm biased because I'm a girl and I associate with Veronica Mars a lot on the show. But this television series is the most well written, comical and touching, dramatic, smart, evocative thing since Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly. I love this show so much, it's the only show on television that I actually watch!
5-0 out of 5 stars To paraphrase the theme song, "C'mon now, sugar, bring it home, bring it home."You'll be glad you did
It's a credit to this show that viewers have posted lots of detailed raves and other enthusiastic comments here on Amazon, so I think I'll add just a brief paragraph or two with my own two cents. After all, it's the show you should be immersing yourself into, not just the reviews of it.So I won't keep you long.

4-0 out of 5 stars Could be better
Although Season 5 is not as bad as Season 6, it isn't one of the best overall.Rory is going downhill all the way, being very unRorylike in some ways and making bad choices. She drops out of Yale among other things. This was a disappointment, but had enough going for it that it's worth a watch if you're out of Gilmore and don't want to rerun previous seasons right away.

3-0 out of 5 stars Gilmore Girls has been better
I love Gilmore Girls, but I don't like the fifth season as much. I don't like how Rory is with Logan; he is a horrible influence. I don't like how Rory quits Yale, and how her life seems to go downhill. However, I do like how Emily and Richard end up back together, and Lorelai and Luke end up back together. But overall, the first four seasons were better.

4-0 out of 5 stars gilmore girls the compleat 5th season

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Sit Com on TV
I had never watched Scrubs until about one week ago.A week later and I've watched all five seasons.Absolutely must see.Braff possesses a perfect blend of witty humor and sappy emotion for his part, and Donald Faison complements him perfectly in his role as his best friend and fellow doctor. You couldn't ask for a more naturally hilarious and emotionally driven combination in a TV show. The progression of the characters in terms of rank in the hospital and emotion is amazing through each season and even each episode. All the actors grow into their parts with more ease each season too, creating a great growth throughout the show.Certainly worth watching... and definitely my favorite TV show of all time.I'm carrying a full 15 unit load in college and have made it through 117 episodes in 6 days... be warned that you may have no life for however long it takes you to watch these!!

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this show.
The best medical show on TV....Can't wait for the 4th season to come out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Surreal but with a touches on real emotions
I thought that Scrubs would be a slapstick silly comedy, but I was wrong. This show has developed characters who change during the years, mainly due to their rise in the ranks of the hospital. One episode can have a surreal JD day dream, and yet maintain the emotional level about a patient's plight.I know several doctors and it seems that the show is able to show the interns nervousness about being on call, making good decisions, etc. and still be side splitting funny.I started watching during season 3 so the dvd gave me the chance to see it from the beginning.Four strong seasons is more than most shows get. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Just as good
Season Three keeps up the breakneck pace of the previous two.My only criticism would be that there was no continuity with Kate Warner. It was left very unclear why that relationship did not continue. The return of Nina Myers was an added bonus. It's fiction - kick back and enjoy.

3-0 out of 5 stars some troubling themes
I love the 24 concept, and the first two seasons were real thrillers.I was looking forward to this season with relish, as was my whole family.Unfortunately, I was disappointed by the lack of creativity in this season. There were also some troubling moral themes.Three things I particularly disliked...(SPOILER WARNING)
4-0 out of 5 stars Good DVDs but Don't Look at the Menus
I like the 24 series, but the DVDs for Seasons 1-4 have a problem that almost every sub-screen for each episode is a spoiler for what will happen in that episode.Even the opening menu sequence for season 3 gave away secrets. So while the show is great, I'd recommend not looking at the scene shots that are part of the DVD menus.I haven't watched Season 5 on DVD, so I'm unsure if it suffers too. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars More logical than Season 1 (and better), but a few hours too long
The second season of 24 offers a more logical story than season 1.There are less coincidences, fewer vanishing characters, and a tighter control on the overall plot. For watching the show on DVD, unbroken by a week between episodes (not to mention advertising breaks), this is vital.Sure, the series still suffers from some of the same coldly logical problems of Season 1, e.g. it seems you can get from anywhere in L.A. to anywhere else in 10 minutes or less, irrespective of the time of day.But there are precious few other illogical happenings in this second series, which makes it more enjoyable (and easier to watch multiple times) than season 1.
5-0 out of 5 stars If in doubt, throw in another torture scene

5-0 out of 5 stars This series will leave you speechless!
I have always been a fan of underwater video and scuba diving, but this is absolutely the best above and underwater footage I have ever seen. There is footage here that I have never seen anywhere before. The producers of this series certainly devoted immense time and patience to capture some of the rarest events in nature. In particular, I was spellbound by the coverage of killer whale attacks.
    5-0 out of 5 stars Dazzling, Mind-Expanding
This superb documentary contains drama that is heart wrenching --like the killer whales attacking a baby whale and the mother fighting to defend it.The deep sea chapter is stunning -- the luminous fish of the deep are more fantastic than could be imagined. Run, don't walk to get this and watch it repeatedly!

4-0 out of 5 stars Much funnier than its american cousin
I got this set after a long night with a British couple in a series of Paris bars. I wasn't a big fan of the American version, but they swore I'd love the BBC version. They were right--what makes this show so damn funny is that it's so true! Skip the US version, and laugh yourself silly with the original.

5-0 out of 5 stars An amazing series....
I love British comedy, but The Office is actually much more than a comedy. While it is hilarious in spots, it doesn't put its characters into sitcom like situations, but real ones. The characters in this series are incredibly well drawn, and are not stock characters.Considering this is technically a comedy, there's tenderness, sadness, and a real sense of emotion underneath here.Tim's infatuation with Dawn feels real; it doesn't come across as "we need a love interest here".David Brent is a joke in many ways, but you cringe at what he does because we've all been in situations like this. You feel sad (not necessarily sorry) for him, because he's trying so hard to be one of the gang. The show doesn't have contempt for him (like in a lot of American comedies, which have a smugness about them), but shows him in a sympathetic light, even though we're still laughing like hell at him. There is depth in this series, which is rare for a comedy, whether British or American.Gervais and co-writer/co-director Stephen Merchant pull this off extraordinarily well.Of course, there are absolutely hilarious bits everywhere, especially when Brent brandishes his guitar and belts out "Free Love on the Free Love Highway".A great series, one of the best Great Britain ever produced...

5-0 out of 5 stars The Office is a Party
This show is absolutely incredible television. There is nothing else like it out there. Fresh, inventive, and funny!! Universal themes and laughs.

4-0 out of 5 stars Love it....except for just one problem
This collector's giftset is excellent, except for just one problem:I've had to send it back for replacement twice because of defective discs that don't play or that repeatedly stop and start again. How frustrating!I think HBO Home Video (If they are responsible) needs to make sure the quality is where it should be.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply, this is what I was looking for
There is no better gift from a man to his woman. I received it 2 months ago from my future husband and I had to broke my leg to get into bed and stay home to watch 3 seasons in a row...It's a really good experience 'cause you can get every feeling, every character, every situation and say oooh! that's why...This collection is a heart and soul school for every man and woman, and its acrylic case and pink velvet with the NYC Buildings makes you handle it like a treasure. It is indeed.

3-0 out of 5 stars Best series ever, but what happened to the picture quality ?
This series is fantastic. Presentation is fantastic.
