Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) is a rogue pirate. He was exiled from his crew and left on an island. Jack managed to escape the island and is now looking for revenge and wants his ship back. Jack's former crew invade the town of Port Royal looking for a medallion that could rid them of their curse. They kidnap Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) and her childhood friend, Will (Orlando Bloom), sets out to rescue her with the help of Jack Sparrow.
5-0 out of 5 stars Har!The best pirate movie since `The Crimson Pirate'.
Let's face it, has there been a more fun and memorable pirate movie since 1952 when Burt Lancaster and his silent sidekick Ojo swashbuckled bad guys, slid down awnings, and saved the girl?Go ahead, search your brain.

3-0 out of 5 stars pretty good
This movie was pretty good. I liked the witch. She is my favorite character because she is a pretty bad villain and I like villains. The parts of the movie that I liked best were the parts with the Wizard and the Munchkins.Once Dorothy and the scarecrow, lion and tin man reach Oz, it gets very interesting. You finally get to see the place they've been following the yellow brick road for. It's cool.I am six.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Version of the Wizard of Oz yet
Known to all, this is the story of Dorothy Gale and herjourney to the magical land of Oz. She meets a Scarecrow who needs a brain, a Tin Man who wants a heart, and a cowardly lion who desperately needs courage. The most popular film of all time , seen by over a billion people. It's timelessness is proof enough of its value . Certainly flawed when scrutinized and written about for 56 years, but still most beloved. In 1998 rereleased on the big screen: magic. And admittedly the most important film of my life: As a child I was obsessed with the film and only a little less now.

5-0 out of 5 stars It Never Gets Old
"The Wizard Of Oz" is a film truly worthy of the title timeless. No matter how many times, you can't help but be amazed by the sense of wonder and inspiration this film creates. Even after 67 years, it's still one of the most impressive and uplifiting moments in cinema.

5-0 out of 5 stars worth its flaws
Damon and Affleck deserve all the credit they got for this script, as well as their acting. There are flaws, however, which we can overlook, but obviously I want to list them! That's the fun of this. The most glaring mistake is the guy (apparently a teamster, as if they need to get overpaid any more than they already are) cast as the judge.I've lived in Boston, and people with that accent, bordering on speech impediment, do not become judges. They become, well, teamsters and the like.Robin Williams is good, but this movie doesn't even need him. Also, Minnie Driver is fairly unattractive and has an irritating way of speaking.Stellan Skarsgaard is good as the professor, even though nobody with that eurotrash accent of his would be named "Jerry".How's that for a thirty second review?

4-0 out of 5 stars Robin Williams shines
I really enjoyed this movie and found it to be a very tender and wonderful film. Robin Williams and Matt Damon light up the screen. I really felt this was Williams break out role as a serious actor and he showed a lot of range (though he was also great in The World According to Garp early in his career). He totally broke away from the manic comedy routines that can exhaust you and become tiring. Ben Affleck was just poor and a piece of wood as usual but what are you going to do? I guess they were a package deal back then (he and Damon)Mini Driver was also very good. Also Stellan Skarsgard was good as Williams childhood schoolmate who made it good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Robin Williams is astonishing
This film is astounding. Robin Williams' performance as a world-weary academic and therapist is one of the most brilliant portrayals ever committed to film. Matt Damon is unbelievably effective as a math genius born to poverty in South Boston who is attempting to cope with his gift and maintain a normal life. Great script and great direction. I would put this film on a list of the 50 greatest films of all time. You must see Good Will Hunting. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Finding Forrester
I never get tired of watching this. Sean Connery is brilliant as a reclusive author. Rob Brown debuts as a high school student in the ghetto who is secretly a damn intelligent author in his own right. There's so much in this movie that's about writing and so much that isn't. Many themes I don't feel like spoiling, and you can find another review if you want plot spoilers. The writing is sharp, the language is clever, the characters are brilliantly portrayed, the dialogue is witty and observant, and the plot is surprisingly enjoyable to watch. F. Murray Abraham shines as a teacher I prefer not to emulate, and perhaps he got many of the best lines. This DVD is just perfect. Go get it.
5-0 out of 5 stars In search of an own voice in the middle a noisy and trivial world!

4-0 out of 5 stars **** for Anna!
If jamaal was actually going to teach Sean Connery something he should of mentioned some other poets that were not European. There should have been some comment from his mother about poets of color to create yet another dilemma in his world. Anna Paquin is a fine young lady but, I wish that interest would have developed only slightly more. She was obviously attracted to him for being the new phenomenon at the school as it is in real life.

3-0 out of 5 stars Hans Christian Andersen -Denmark
The DVD received can not be played on the Danish systems - guess that standards are different. But as it was meant as a present for our American relatives we hope it will work over there. Otherwise - well, we just lost our money, and so what?

5-0 out of 5 stars Anderson a blast
I grew on Danny Kaye and other mogals of that age and i think i can safely say that Hans Christian Andersen is one of the best movies he's been in.It's a heartwarming story about the life of writer Hans Christian Andersen, told through song and dance as well as great acting. It's not one of Danny's more comical pieces, being a bit more serious, but it holds his classic trademarks in film.

4-0 out of 5 stars Jaime Pressly: Suductress Extraordinaire
The star of this film, Jamie Pressly, has recently been commended for her acting ability. In early 2006 she received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress for her role in the TV comedy series "My Name is Earl."Also, in early October, 2006, she was guest host on NBC's Saturday Night Live.Ms. Pressly has the unique ability, by changing her facial expressions (using mostly her large blue eyes and mouth) to instantly transform her appearance from a beautiful seductress to a freaked out psycho.
4-0 out of 5 stars Jamie Pressly. Nice!
I rented this movie for the same reason many males do. Jaime Pressly (the redneck chick from such movies as Joe Dirt and the TV show My Name is Earl) made her film debut with this direct-to-video sequel. And in this film, she takes off her clothes. Believe me, that's the reason that 97% of the people who watch this movie watch it for. The other 3% is people who are forced to watch it with those people. I've never seen the first Poison Ivy (which starred Drew Barrymore) or the 2nd (Alyssa Milano); But, this plot is relatively connected. The movie begins at a large house, probably in California. Two young sisters named Ivy and Violet are playing with their friend Joy, while their mother (who is the house, housekeeper and looks way too young to have children...And way way too hot) has sex with some guy. The owner of the house (Joy's father) comes home and catches them in the act. Apparently Joy's father, Ivan and Ivy and Violet's Mom are having an affair; Which Ivan's wife finds out about. Flash forward a few years later. Ivan (Michael Des Barres) is divorced, Joy (Megan Edwards) is all grown up and engaged to Michael (Greg Vaughan). Everything's perfect is Suburbia. Then Violet (Pressly) shows up on their doorstep with seemingly innocent intentions. Of course, the viewer knows that isn't so. Soon, Violet begins working a mind game (that like so many movie mind games would never work in real life) in an attempt to ruin Joy's life. Technically, she has a motive. But, she's kind of taking it out on the wrong person. While the writer does make Violet slightly crazy, she's obviously not insane...So, why doesn't she ever think about what she's doing? Nothing I've written so far even really matters. Let's face it, most of you are not going to rent it for the story. The movie, for a direct-to-video movie, isn't that bad actually. Sure, the story's pretty stupid...But its entertaining and Pressly bares near all. This movie is not a masterpiece; If you're not a testosterone driven guy, you probably won't like this movie that much. If you don't like Jaime Pressly, you probably won't like this movie that much. But, if you do like Pressly. See this movie NOW!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
I couldn't be more pleased with this seller's service: fast delivery, & a quality product.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Western the way it should be
This is a well done, made-for-TV Western based on the Louis L'Amour novel of the same name. There is so much to like in this movie. This is not some grand epic like `Dances with Wolves', the scale and scope of the action are small, and the plot straightforward. The casting and acting are great.Sam Elliot was put on this Earth to play the role of L'Amour's quiet loners. He has such a great voice and presence.Katherine Ross, his love interest in this movie and his wife in real life, is also outstanding.Conagher has some great lines in this movie, as other reviews have alluded to.Ken Curtis (Festus!) also has an important role in this movie.Any Western with Festus can't be bad.The cinematography is terrific.Beautiful shots of the wilderness, the badlands, and the open sky. This movie is also full of atmosphere.Without trying to describe what atmosphere is in a Western, the best Westerns (such as John Wayne's Rio Bravo, and including this film) have it.There is also a certain gritty realism to this movie that is lacking in many Westerns made in the past twenty years. The characters get dirty and tired. One small point about this film that I really found compelling was that the shots and lever actions of the Winchesters sound as they really do.Most gunshots in movies don't sound like real gunshots. This is a small but important detail for realism, and it really adds to the experience of being part of the action, not just a distant observer. The only reason that I don't give this movie five stars is that the editing and transition between scenes are horrible.Perhaps this is an artifact of TV (commercial breaks) or perhaps it indicates that there were more scenes initially shot that were cut from the finished film, I don't know.Scenes just abruptly end, and there are discontinuous, seemingly random jumps, in time and space in the film.It makes the final product somewhat choppy in my opinion. This is a great (and underappreciated) Western in any case, and a worthy addition to any collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great movie - caution to parents
I really think this is a great movie, Very little swearing, some fist-fights and gunslinging. Clean enough for my 8 and 11 year old boys to watch. However, be careful parents, because on the DVD, the preview to other movies contains frontal nudity.(accessible through the main menu)You might want to store it out of their reach.

5-0 out of 5 stars the American "Ringu" does more than enough to stand on its own
I know there will be some misguided souls who stumble into a showing of THE RING believing that it's either a film of Richard Wagner's famous operatic cycle, or has something to do with Hobbits. Needless to say, they will be in for a surprise.
5-0 out of 5 stars another October horror movie review
The reason I believe the Ring is a classic horror movie is because it disturbs me on a VERY personal, unexplainable level. You see, the main storyline of the Ring is the fact that this video tape has been created, and anyone who watches this video tape will die in some unusual, twisted manner. It's up to a reporter woman named Rachel to figure everything out. She's the main character of the film, along with her son.
4-0 out of 5 stars Classy horror
The Ring is that rare animal, a remake that actually manages to be as good as the original, although there are differences between the two films.

1-0 out of 5 stars No Reason To Be
The lengths which many are willing to go to provide some sort of intellectual justification of the existence of Starship Troopers never cease to amaze me. "Oh, it's satire," they say. "It is a subversive send up of fascism, the most brilliant since Dr. Stragelove." Well folks, I'm here to let the cat out of the bag. No it isn't. Starship Troopers is not subversive. Starship Troopers is not satire. Starship Troopers is just stupid. For all its smirking, in-on-its-own-joke faux camp and oh-so-ironic stabs at social commentary, Starship Troopers is nothing more than a schlocky sci-fi shoot 'em up aimed at adolescents (clearly demonstrating that the filmmakers knew all along that their 'subversive' film was a steaming turd) and directed with all the ham-handed prurience which we've all come to know and hate from Paul Verhoeven (whose chief claim to fame is Showgirls, the movie which ensured that no one would ever be curious enough to see an NC-17 film again).
5-0 out of 5 stars Superbit Edition is aMasterpiece
This is just a blurb in support of the Superbit release of this fine film. One of the best looking sd-DVD's you're going to find, with picture quality surpassed only by a few other DVD's out there. Combine this with an upconvert dvd player, and you'll be very happy I promise.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredibly Misunderstood and Understated 90's Film
I've always loved over-the-top films, in terms of acting, plot twists & turns, etc.The only problem?I don't know that the movie I just watched and adored was campy until someone else tells me as such.So was the case with "Showgirls", a movie I had heard so much bashing about that I was to the point where I couldn't believe it would be as bad as so many had previously labeled it.The surprise: I was right.
5-0 out of 5 stars This is great movie
I have seen the movie several times & I love it. It is in my top 15 movies.
4-0 out of 5 stars Ridiculous
The film itself includes a hysterical commentary by David Schmader called the greatest movie ever made, plus a pop-up trivia track that offers juicy insights such as Elizabeth Berkley's total time in the film spent naked. The rest of the box includes a collection of party games such as pin the pasties on the stripper and a pair of shot glasses and game instructions for various Showgirls-themed drinking games. It's almost as ridiculous as the movie itself.Highly recommended.Showgirls is fun

4-0 out of 5 stars "Hate is a very exciting emotion!"
Rita Hayworth and Glenn Ford star in Gilda, a noir thriller set in Buenos Aires.Ford plays Johnny, a down on his luck gambler who is picked up by a casino owner.Johnny quickly becomes the casino owner's right-hand man--with a pact that women and gambling don't mix. Then Johnny's boss comes back from a trip with a new wife, Gilda, played incandescently by Rita Hayworth.Gilda is a typical noir femme fatale. She acts fast and loose but is actually just trying to get her guy jealous.Of course, her guy isn't her husband--its Johnny.
5-0 out of 5 stars Film Noir's Best
This is a Film Noir starring Rita Hayworth. She's absolutely gorgeous, breathtakingly beautiful, and she can act.The tension between her and Glenn Ford is sizzling. The romance of love and hate is summed up by Gilda (perhaps not a diret quote but goes something like this) "Johnny I hate you so much I think I'll die from it" ..it has a superb cast and directed by Charles Vidor. It's a wonderful Film Noir!

4-0 out of 5 stars Wow
I'm 37 years old and far from an old time movie buff.I like noir movies though and have started collecting them for a while now.I also managed to get this movie for $9.99 at Tower Records because somebody goofed and put the wrong price on it, it was supposed to be $19.99.BONUS!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars a film that tries to make something out of nothing
elephant is a whole lot of trying to way hard to make art out of the uneventful day to day lives of semi-cliche highschool students. apparently they walk through halls alone a lot and rarely have conversations with other students...generally in film you'd want to avoid those moments (see andy warhol's "sleep") as it is really really boring. following a kid around empty halls to classical music isn't enlightening and if it is art it's quite a stretch. there's really nothing revolutionary about this lean towards realism in the film. it's just a really bad way to set up a film where the climax is attempting to break the ice and shock the audience with an all to predictable school shooting which just turns our vulgar, confusing (wait why are these boys making out in the shower before they kill everyone?) and poorly constructed. example: who the hell is ben? why does he get a title? and why do you kill him off 25 seconds after his name appears on screen? why the should the audience care about a character who is more 2-dimensional than the arcade version of space invaders? this is what happens when you spend 3/4 of a movie showing us essentially nothing. what the film is trying to say here is clear, but how it's trying to say it is weak. this fim is no more art than a pencil jammed in an orange.

1-0 out of 5 stars awful
For 108 minutes nothing happens in this whole movie. Then bam the school shooting begins. I fast fowarded 99 percent of this film and watched til the end. Super boring and pointless. Don't waste your time watching this film because there's no substance to it what so ever.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hauntingly dark
Elephant- a film with a large hype gathered around it. I've been meaning to see this movie for some time now, and finally got to. As you probably know, it's a movie about a school shooting in a middle America high school. It's an extremely dark movie- which is funny because every shot of the movie displaysintense brightness/whiteness. Perhaps that embodies the emptiness of the people at the school. That's how the characterization comes across. You don't get to know any characters too well, so they all come across empty and miserable. The film is mostly all buildup to the final act, but the shooting isn't all the film really wants to tell. It has so many other messages about America's youth. it really is a strong and captivating film. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Tedious but Decorative
This film does have some good points. Audrey Hepburn is always worth watching. The Napoleonic era costumes are gorgeous and the splendors of the Romanov court are a fine spectacle. These points do not make up for the lack of interest, however. The plot plods along and there is very little excitement or drama.
4-0 out of 5 stars A Highly Entertaining Hollywood Interpretation of Tolstoy's Epic Novel.
This audacious endeavor to bring Leo Tolstoy's brilliant epic novel "War and Peace" to the silver screen deserves kudos. Director King Vidor manages, superbly, to coherently condense the novel's almost 1500 pages into 208 minutes of viewing time. Here he successfully captures the flavor of Russia at war and at peace from 1805, around the time of the Battle of Austerlitz, where Napoleon and his army of the First French Empire engaged the armies of the Russian and Austrian Empires to Napoleon's invasion of Mother Russia, and Moscow itself, in 1812.
3-0 out of 5 stars Classic story, old movie
This story revolves around Natasha Rostov. She is the daughter of Count Rostov and lives in Moscow. She is a close friend of Count Pierre BezukhovShe falls in love with the widow Prince Andrei Bolkonsky after the Battle of Austerlitz and gets engaged. After Natasha falls in love with another man, Prince Vasili Kuragine, she is forced to break up her engagement with Prince Bolkonsky. Prince Bolonsky then fights Napoleon at the battle of Bordino and gets mortally wounded. This improves Natasha's and Bolonsky's relationship before he dies. After Napoleon retreats from Moscow in 1812, Natasha returns to her family's demolished house and falls in love with the family friend Pierre Bezukhov.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brings back memories!
I watched Clarissa Explains it All from start to finish when it originally aired on Nickelodion, and it became one of my favorite shows.I loved the witty, quirky ways in which Clarissa, played by Melissa Joan Hart, dealt with the same problems I faced as a 1990s teenager.I was thrilled to see the release of the first season on DVD (in addition to the bonus MTV Cribs feature, which offers a tour of MJH's home), and I look forward to the release of season 2.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great Series - 5th Season was was worst
A poor ending to a great series. One word to describe "Disappointing".

5-0 out of 5 stars A fitting ending to the series
Even though this is the weakest season of the Highlander Series I give this 5 stars because of the finale to the series, the episodes "To be" and "Not to be", these are classics now for all the HL fans and to having ended the series with the touching notes of "Bonny Portmore" made us all celebrate the saga and life of Duncan Macleod. And being too an autoracing buff, for me it was a positive surprise that they had included the feature of "La carrera Panamericana", Adrian Paul is not a great driver but it was interesting to watch how a team is readied for a race and it was exciting to follow the teams thru all Mexico. Buy this season if you followed the series you wont regret it.

They've tried Catzilla, a feline so ferocious it can't be euthanized. They've tried booby traps that RubeGoldberg would marvel at. They've even tried Caesar (hilariously played by Christopher Walken), a dementedexterminator whose "Squeak Seeker 2000" mouse-cam will infiltrate even the cleverest rodent's secret lair. But theSmuntz brothers Ernie (Nathan Lane) and Lars (British comedian Lee Evans) just can't win against the tenacious mousethat wreaks havoc in the vintage home they've inherited from their father. That's the one-note premise of this chaotic, lavishly produced comedy that starts on a high note and never lets up, eventually leaving the viewer exhausted. Thespecial mouse effects (live-action, animatronic, and computer-generated) are delightful, and the slapstick is frequentlyingenious, but the title says it all in a movie that is little more than an elaborate variation of Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars The Wiliest Super Rat You'll Ever See.
Nathan Lane was his usual self as he portrayed a chef in Club LaConte where he has a date with the mayor on the eve of the election.Alas, the mayor bit down on a roach and so the club was closed.Ernie retires with his brother Lars to the inherited family mansion, which they found in much disarray. When you're on top, the only place to do is down.Ernieis father has always needed a scapegoat, and he put his sons to the test.Because of a mortage on this old dilapidated house, both brothers are homeless and out on the streets on Christmas -- which was sad.Things get better.
5-0 out of 5 stars Funnier And Better You Couldn't Get
I get a laugh out of people critiquing this movie on the basis of script, story, and comparison to "Home Alone," etc. It is just plain hilarious. Nathan and Lee are comparible to Laurel & Hardy! Need I say more? Who cares if I've seen others do some of the bits in this film, especially L&H? It's just fall-down funny from beginning to end. I've watched it over a dozen times and I laugh every time. It's a shame that the pairing of these funny men could not have led to a series of comedies as they used to do with Martin & Lewis, Abbott & Costello, etc. These two are far funnier than any of those past comedy duos.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious flick. Family fun, or guilty pleasure for an adult.
I avoided this movie like the plague when it originally came out. I was suffering from both the film's and Nathan Lane's ubiquity at the time. That plus I never seemed to catch the flick in its entirety. Once I sat down and did just that, Nathan Lane and Lee Evans were perfectly cast for this roller coaster of a comedy that, once you get past the over the top story line and the fact that it gets a big hand by CGI (what, you thought they trained a real mouse to do all these stunts?), this movie is non-stop fun with just enough assistance from characters outside the main three, which of course includes the mouse. Christopher Walken particularly gets large laughs from a short amount of camera time (unlike "The Wedding Crashers"). Some great situations in this flick lead to huge laughs. If you have visions of "Tom and Jerry" or even "Road Runner", don't be embarrased, as this film draws inspiration from suchprograms, as well as classic TV and film comedies. If you avoid this flick for any of my aforementioned reasons, they'll be superceded by reasons you'll only know after viewing it. Lots of cameos by other familiar character actors add to the fun. ...
