5-0 out of 5 stars Delightful movie, gentle humor
These movies are from the 1970s but are still a lot of fun to watch. The premise of The Gods Must Be Crazy I is that the pilot of a small airplane throws a glass Coke bottle out a window, and the bottle lands in the Kalahair desert and bonks a little bushman on the head. The people of the bush are so primitive, they have never seen a glass bottle and, since it fell from the sky, they determined it must be a gift from the gods. This bottle causes all kinds of chaos in the tribe so the bushman embarks on a journey to find the edge of the earth and throw the bottle over. The story is this journey. The humor is gentle and loving and sometimes laugh-out-loud funny. The Gods Must be Crazy II is one of the few sequels that lives up the the first movie. These movies are fun for all ages with the caveat that the bushmen wear only loin clothes -- no real nudity and nothing objectionable in any way, though. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I was disappointed with how the series ended. I am a Dawson fan. For 6 years, Joey and Dawson continued coming back to each other and Joey even sleeps with Dawson near the end of the show. She toyed with Dawson'sfeelings for 6 years like she could not make up her mind about their relationship and how she could not let him go.She kept Dawson on a roller coaster ride.Dawson would have been completed devoted to Joey had she let him.In the end, she chooses Pacey. Now if that wasn't enough, when she visits Jen in the hospital during Jen's dying days, Joey tells Jen she has always known who she should be with (meaning Pacey). That line really ticked me off.If Joey had always known that she should have been with Pacey, while was she always dangling Dawson from her chain, sleeping with him and everything else?I thought the series ended with Joey looking like the bad guy.The show should have ended with Joey having a completely new love interest.Dawson should have told them both to "you know what" and go to California and never look back.Pacey should go back out to sea and date a new girl at every port.He never seemed like a character that would settle down but then again, maybe that is what Joey deserved.I hope some day the cast and crew come together for one last movie and straighten this out.

4-0 out of 5 stars Dawson't Creek - The Series Finale
I haven't gotten the chance to watch this just yet, however when the show was on TV I watched it religiously every week. I have always enjoyed the series and was incredible disappointed when it went off the air. My boyfriend bought me Seasons 1-5 for my birthday last year and we have been working on watching them together ever since. I also bought Season 6 when it came out. If you like the show, then you'll love the series. I was a little disappointed that the theme song was changed, not really sure why. But it kinda takes away from the show. Being such a big Dawson's Creek fan and watching it every week, the theme song reminds me of that show. So that's why I had to give it four stars instead of five. It just isn't quite the same, but the shows are still good.

5-0 out of 5 stars much better than tv
This DVD completed the series finale. The one that aired on TV has so many scenes cut from it. They didn't even mention Andy until I saw her on the DVD. I cried when I saw it on TV, so if you liked that, you'll love all of the extra scenes on the DVD. ... Read more

I am from Namibia, where this movie was actually filmed.I was born there, and grew up there.
5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious Animal Documentary
Who could ever think, that different kind of animals react like human beings? If you watch this documentary, you will see a side of animal behaviors you never saw before in a funny way. It is interesting to see how male ostriches dance for the females or how elephants, baboons and kudus can get drunk from an overripe fruit. Jamie Uys did a wonderful job to capture with the camera all kind of animals at the right time and edited with the perfect background music. Even that this documentary is a few years old, I love to watch it over and over again. This is a perfect entertainment animal movie for the whole family.

2-0 out of 5 stars animals are beautiful people
the movie I received was not what I expected, I had seen it on TV years ago and what I got was completely different, the one I saw had giraffes that were drunk with the fruit hippos, or elephants that were drunk, monkeys laying on the ground drunk, it was hillarious and the one that i got from you was not the movie I saw at all, I was very dissapointed, and wish I could find the one that was very funny throughout the movie. Is there a possibility that you know what I'm talking about and maybe I could get the right picture?.. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Gods Must Be Crazy
Does anyone remember this film about the Coke bottle that was dropped on a tribe of African bushmen, changing their lives forever? I had only very vague memories, but it's finally available on DVD. Slapstick yet intelligent, offbeat yet eminently enjoyable. You don't hear those adjectives together very often, do you? The author has obviously spent much time in Africa. Bushman N!xau is simply wonderful, and I love the clicking language he speaks. The rhinos are great too.
5-0 out of 5 stars good movie with funny, unboring plot
I watched this on tv and thought it would be boring but it combined humour, african culture and different settings all together. My favourite parts were when the car brakes weren't working and when all the terrorists were put to sleep. Definitely recommended.

4-0 out of 5 stars Delightfully humorous movie
This movie is one of my favorites!I did not care for any of the sequels but I did like this one.The DVD also has an interesting documentary where the Bushman of the movie is revisited in Africa. The movie is unique. ... Read more

Three middle-age buddies (Billy Crystal, Daniel Stern, Bruno Kirby) facing personal crises decide to sign up for a two-week cattle run for a change of pace. The trail proves a tougher place than anyone thought, and the boss (Jack Palance) is a grizzled taskmaster who doesn't cotton to tenderfoot urbanites. Popular in theaters, the film is both funny and moving, with Crystal giving one of his most complete performances and Palance (who won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar) a lot of colorful fun. 5-0 out of 5 stars In Appreciation of Bruno Kirby
Bruno Kirby passed away not too long ago...wow...it really kind of blew me away...he was so young and talented and still had so much to offer the world. But we must not be overly sad at his death, we must know and feel that even now the life that Bruno Kirby was/is/and will always be is doing even greater things...

    Editorial Review

Robert Downey Jr. has never been more charming than in this comedy about a yuppie who is revisited in adulthood by the spirits of four people who had been his friends as a child. The ghosts (Kyra Sedgwick, Charles Grodin, Alfre Woodard, Tom Sizemore) all have unfinished business in this world before they can move on to the next, and Downey's character agrees to let them inhabit his body while they sort it all out. The appealing cast alone strongly recommends this movie, but Downey's remarkable facility for physical comedy--manifesting the personalities of his supernatural pals as they possess him--is a riot. Elisabeth Shue makes the best of her part as the hero's girlfriend; Read more

Starring Robert Downey Jr in one of his most appealing roles, Hearts and Souls is a sweet and funny movie to make everyone feel good. When four people have their lives cut short by a distracted bus driver they are given the chance to complete their lives through Robert Downey Jr's character Thomas. This ensues a variety of funny and heartfelt moments.A pleasure to watch from beginning to end and easily recommended.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Fun And Entertaining Horror Spoof!
This is a highly recommended film. "Tremors" is one of those type of films that is recommended for one of those relaxing and fun afternoons you just want to laugh and not take things too seriously. (Fred Ward) and his best friend (Kevin Bacon) give outstanding performances as two not-too-bright friends who happen to stumble upon a creature [much like a giant worm] that is eating their town away--literally! And not just the town, but the occupants also. This is a very recommended film. It is not gory [not too much anyhow] and the silliness is a warm and welcome relief. Further, the film is not just a horror flick in the usual sense, but horror with lot's of comedy. Fred Ward's character had me in stitches several times.
5-0 out of 5 stars Laugh out loud funny
I thought this movie was hilarious. The two main characters Val and Earl were the best part. Everytime they tried to leave Perfection, something would stop them. "We just waited one day too long to leave"
5-0 out of 5 stars Great monstrous fun
TREMORS is arguably the best science-fiction/monster movie of at least the past quarter-century -- only ALIENS, a different sort of beast altogether, comes close.Avoid the sequels (you have been warned), but don't miss the perfectly written, mounted, directed, and acted original. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Children's book comes to dazzling life.
Animation, despite all the digital enhancements of computers, is still drawings run together to provide the illusion of motion. Flip books, old style Disney & Warner Brothers animation & cartoons to right up to the minute achievements such as Pixar's Cars all share similar origins, that of an artist's drawing.
5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and moving classic
Note: I bought this DVD for The Snowman only. I first saw The Snowman on public television in 1982 with my family and I was impressed and deeply affected by this timeless and gentle classic. The most compelling and poignant scene in the film for me is the flying sequence with Howard Blake's haunting music and song "Walking in the Air." This scene is as captivating and moving to me today as it was 24 years ago. I recommend this DVD for both adults and children; it can be viewed during all seasons. Of course, I also recommend the book by Raymond Briggs. It is quite heartening and reassuring to me that so many people have been touched by this deceptively simple and beautiful film.

    5-0 out of 5 stars A Classic!
At any age, the Snowman is a glorious classic. The music and wordless story is beautifully told through the illustrations and facial expressions of the characters. A good example of how can transport us into the worlds of our imagination. ... Read more

Maybe I am an idiot, but I think Amazon should state clearly that the single episode on this DVD is included in the Season One box set.I had already purchased Season One and then I purchased this, opened it and now it is not returnable. My one star rating is directed not at 'Monk' but at Amazon.

4-0 out of 5 stars cover complaint
I just wanted to point out that sticking Doug Emerson's head on Luke Perry's body on the cover photo is weird and stupid. (Luke Perry doesn't show up until the first regular episode of the series.) Why not just use a different photo? The photo used is from a season two promo shoot anyway (when Doug Emerson was no longer in the cast). It's kind of an insult to think we won't notice that the photo has been doctored. Dumb.
5-0 out of 5 stars Need 90210 on DVD already
I agree with those who wrote before that we need to have the series (one of the best in my opinion) out on DVD already. The Pilot DVD is great and fun to watch. A good buy.I remember staying home to watch the show and I planned my schedule for the next 10 years around the show.I was addicted to say the least.
1-0 out of 5 stars stupidest show.
Just like the OC, rich kids r portrayed as having many many & many problems. I was in my teens when the series aired. Even when i was a teen, I thought to myself, "this is the stupidest show ever and so unrealistic." Every show portrayed the actors has having problems after problems. Examples : my mother whose a famous fashiion designer is a crackhead, my friend played w/ a gun and accidentally shot himself dead (this was the stupidest episode by far), my friend died during a drive by at UCLA, i'm a teen and i have breast cancer, i'm a drunk, i'm a drug user, we moved to 90210 but my mom is a housewife, my father forces me to work even though i'm rich and i live in Beverly Hills. Whoever wrote the series doesn't know anything. Yeah, a mother whose a housewife in Beverly Hills. I remember a show where the group went to a underground rave and they didn't even play the right music for a rave scene. Stupid. S-T-U-P-I-D. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Delightful, Charlie Chapman like, tells a story of family values
Xixo, the bushman runs for two days to rescue his two children and with tears flowing down his eyes, he reunites with his two children. The two children's curiosity finds them on top of the water wagon being pulled by a ivory pouches truck. Xixo, reads the tracks, interprets that his children are captives of the truck, and begins his run. Xixo, will cross paths with Anne, a Cuban, a African militant, a delirious Stephen, and briefly be detained by the two poachers.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Movie
This is the funniest movie I've ever seen, bar none!

5-0 out of 5 stars My favourite movie of all time!!! A joy to watch.
The funny thing is that I didn't consciously go out of my way to watch this movie. Now that I've watched it, I'm so glad that I decided to rent it when I happened to see it on the shelf at the video store. In my opinion, this is the most beautiful movie ever made. Of course it is funny, as most people would imagine. The real gem in this picture, however, is the subplot of the bushman, Xi, and his young children becoming seperated, and their long and eventful journey to reunion. Not only does Xi lose his kids but the two of them, a sister and a younger brother, also become seperated from each other in the vast and barren Kalahari dessert. Their journey then becomes even more daring as their fate, particularly that of the younger child, hangs in the balance. But true to the inspirational story that is this movie, their courage and devotion to each other never wane. Though they face overwhelming odds, they will stop at nothing to ensure the safety and wellbeing of one another. These three brave souls, Xi and his children, exemplify the meaning of loyalty and family. Though this is just a movie, their love for each other touched my heart and brought me to tears, as movies can often do to all of us. As far as I'm concerned, however, this movie is the most special of them all. One cannot help but cry as you see them leap into each others arms upon their tearful reunion. It is often said that there is no stronger love than that of a parent for their child and this movie is testament to that. I believe that this movie holds a very important message for every family and furthermore for all of humanity. Do yourself a favour and buy it....you'll be glad that you did. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Picture James Carville and Mary Matalin dropped into a screwball comedy. Michael Keaton and Geena Davis are political speechwriters with bad cases of insomnia who meet cute, fall in love, and then discover that they are working for opposing candidates. The subsequent short-lived war of dirty tricks and one-upmanship is one of those contrivances that is soon (and thankfully) discarded in light of their instant rapport and mutual respect. In a world where candidates are for sale and campaigns are fought like poker games, these idealists are made for each other--they just don't know it yet. Director Ron Underwood (Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars ...love at first soundbite...
if you are looking for a great romantic pairing, you can't get much better than michael keaton and geena davis in this wonderful film about the love of politics and the politics of love...as two campaign writers, keaton and davis display a chemistry that is truly sweet amd truly believable...this film, along with 'return to me', both display what's missing in most romantic films, shot in 'the age of color'... (classic black and white films, however, featuring the likes of tracy and hepburn, bogart and bacall, etc...that's a whole 'nother story...)...but for the technicolor age, you can't do better than this...so please, do yourself a favor...put down your 'pretty woman', wake up your 'sleepless in seattle', forget about 'when harry met sally', and find out what a good romantic film is supposed to look like...

4-0 out of 5 stars speechless
thoroughly enjoyed this movie when i saw it on tv recently that's why i bought it
3-0 out of 5 stars High Order Debacle
SPEECHLESS is a cinematic debacle of the highest order. It is truly a shame when an ensemble of talent cannot bring the final artistic product to fruition.I do not blame Keaton or Davis. Director Don Underwood did the best with what he had to work with. The fly in the ointment here is writer Robert King. His basic plot and premise are fine but his script lacks the most rudimentary elements of providing good coherent and captivating dialogue. His script is blatantly bland and becomes annoying as the film progresses. Christopher Reeve, who should have been a strong peripheral yet pivotal character, looks extremely awkward delivering his lines. Bonnie Bedelia, a fine actress, also comes out less then her potential. This film is a real lost opportunity.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Private Affair
It was ok.The only reason I purchased this movie is because I'm a fan of Vanessa Bell Calloway.I've seen better BET movies.Regardless, I purchased it and added it to my ongoing African American dvd collection.

4-0 out of 5 stars You Can Leave Home, But Home Always Comes Back To You
It always seems to surprise me about Africa-American entertainment these days. Yet, there are just so many stereotypes written about woment in those roles, and so many of them not given credit in good quality roles, as much as those roles are strictly given to certain actresses like Halle Berry. Yet, with all of those, it does dismantle some light into good movies. Thankfully, BET and Arabesque entertainment, known for their well recieved books have definitely shined in on bringing good quality movies to the DVD market. That has happened with so many great movies from their novels including Playing With Fire, the well recieved After All with Holly Robinson Peete, and other acceptional flicks, including A Private Affair.
5-0 out of 5 stars ANOTHER GREAT MOVIE FROM BET
THIS MOVIE IS JUST ONE OF MANY THAT I HAVE PURCHASED AND ENJOYED BY BET. AS ALWAYS,THE MOVIE IS WELL PRODUCED. THE ACTING AND CAST ARE SUPERB AND IT IS WORTH PURCHASING. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars I thought it was good...
Although this movie doesn't depict the Eddie Murphy we all might think, if you put your expectations of Eddie aside and just watch the movie, it's actually pretty good.I wouldn't say it was my favorite Sci-Fi Comedy movie, but I'm tired of people giving it a bad rap just because they focus on Eddie Murphy doing something "different" than what they expect.
1-0 out of 5 stars Makes the Fifth Element look like Citizen Kane.
Just a horrendous movie. A flop of the highest order..luckily for Rosario Dawson no one watched this monstrosity or she would have never landed another role.
5-0 out of 5 stars This is what Sci-Fi comedies are all about!
OK, first of all, I have to qualify my point of view: get this-- I am a huge fan of good, funny sci-fi flicks. I have to shake my head and wonder what the f*^k those folks that bashed this movie were expecting? I mean really. I was expecting (hoping for) complete silliness. This delivers nonsense in great heaps. If you are an Eddie Murphy fan, then this is Eddie at his most absurd! If you liked the Fifth Element, this is even better! The effects are great, the chick is FINE, and the jokes are non-stop. I laughed out loud I don't know how many times.

it was a good RDA flick but my copy the lips did not corespond is that meant to be like that it spoilt it a bit but never mind it was still well worth watching

4-0 out of 5 stars Nibbled to Death By Ducks
This movie was well done for what it was.Unfortunately, the scriptwriter (my relative) had written a much darker, tighter and meaner script. The script was supposed to be filmed by a company we will refer to as "X".Unfortunately "X" tanked and the flick, which was supposed to be a big-screen production, was passed on to the CBS network. And that's when the changes were made...Lynn's character was meaner, the deafness thing was better integrated, Jack was unredeemable and the ending was...well, very unhappy. But you can't cast Richard Dean Anderson as a bad guy. And, oooh, Justine Bateman is too cute to be a really bad girl. And hey, we're CBS, so you can't HAVE that dark ending...and...well, I hope you get the idea...by the time the executives finished rearranging, cutting and tweaking, this is the product you had left. Can't help wondering what it might have looked like with real Hollywood treatment and less interference from the investors....

5-0 out of 5 stars Jack before Jack and great followup to Mac
If you can follow my title than you want this DVD!!!!!RDA is excellent. The good cop/bad cop cliche works VERY well in this story.RDA plays Jack Rourke, a cop who was arrested years ago under false charges, was cleared but has never been able to shake the fact that he never gets promoted. He can't hold a relationship with anyone. Then he meets a murder witness with a HUGE story behind her also.He spends the vast majority of the film deciding whether he will actually break the law and system that have been unfair to him or keep on the right side. The movie is great and would have to be one of Richard's best works. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Stealing Sinatra has a weak pulse
David Arquette (Scream Trilogy, Stephen King's Riding The Bullet) stars as Barry who has the perfect plan. He wants to kidnap Frank Sinatra Jr., played by Thomas Ian Nicholas (American Pie 1-3, L.A. D.J.) , for ransom of a large amount of money. Coming along for the ride is Barry's friend Joe, played by Ryan Browning (The Smokers, Extreme Days) and Mr. John Irwin, played by the always masterful William H. Macy (Cellular, The Cooler). Macy doesnt think this a brilliant plan but he goes along with it. They kidnap Sinatra Jr. while he was staying in a hotel and bring them back to the place where their gonna keep him. Arquette has Macy take all the phone calls from Frank Sinatra, Sr., played by James Russo so that way they can ask for the ransom money and then when they get it, Jr. will be released. Stealing Sinatra has it moments, it's a TV movie people. Nicholas does a fine job as Sinatra Jr., he sings good too and of course Macy is wonderful but Arquette and Browning are way miscast for their roles. Also starring Evangeline Lilly (Tv's LOST), who was one of those bikini models in that one commercial shoot. Doesnt feel like their was much oomph in this "supposed" comedy...I didnt laugh that much.

2-0 out of 5 stars Boring as boring can be
Ugh. Don't waste your time. You may think this is a "movie", but it's just something Showtime threw together. None of the acting is very good, and it has very little, if any, redeeming qualities.
3-0 out of 5 stars Could have been much better, but it has a unique "feel"
Sometimes truth is indeed stranger than fiction, especially the epilogue. Perhaps it is because it is based on such strange facts that it resists being fictionalized. "Stealing Sinatra" registers as flat. What a waste. I think that its biggest problem is it neglects to include some of the more interesting facts of the story. Why did Barry Keenan do it? The movie shows him popping pills but it does not mention (if memory serves) that he was once a great mind and the youngest person to trade on the stock exchange. It does mention his maraculous rebound in the end, but does not mention that kidnapper and kidnapee are often forced to exchange awkward glances at ritzy parties. All and all it is an adequate film, due mostly to the way it evokes its time period, and of course the remarkable skill of William H. Macy.
