5-0 out of 5 stars What's better than a hot guy getting revenge?
When I first saw this movie, I was surfing the limited channels on our television a week or so ahead of the time they would actually come on so that I could catch any that sounded promising. This was one of those. The description sounded good and a few of the actors' names sounded familiar, although I had never seen any of their movies to date.
5-0 out of 5 stars What a Fantastic Masterpiece!
I can say that I am truly impressed by this motion picture! It grabbed me and didn't let go till the absolute end of the film. What an adrealine rush this movie is! Yes ladies and gentlemen, this is what the movies are all about!
4-0 out of 5 stars A Thrilling Movie, Though Unfaithful to the Book
I just watched "The Count of Monte Cristo" the other night and really enjoyed it (and may I say, Jim Caviezel has the most stunning eyes!). It has the adventure, romance, suspense, betrayal, and revenge that keeps anyone glued to their TV screen.

5-0 out of 5 stars Even with only the Good parts, much discussion can happen
I saw this movie when I was 11, now I'm in my 30's and it still invokes wonder.I also have always loved the humor of this tale.I love seeing Fred Savage become interested in the story as his grandfather(Peter Falk) reads it to him.It makes me nostalgic because my own grandparents and parent read to me when I was sick.
5-0 out of 5 stars Rob Reiner's Best
"The Princess Bride" is 1 hour and 38 minutes of excellent entertainment. It is based on the book of the same name, which is worth checking out as well. The witty dialog and charm of the movie is no accident ... it comes straight from the book.
3-0 out of 5 stars Death Cannot Stop True Love. All It Can Do Is Delay It For A While.
The Princess Bride is a 1987 movie directed by Rob Reiner and adapted from the William Goldman novel of the matching title. The rom com fairy tale adventure was originally a modest box office success, but over the years it has generated something of a massive cult appeal.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Film, But Not For Everyone!
I thought "Sin City," was a great film. However, it is not for everyone. There is a lot of violence, gore, and scenes many will find sexist. If these are not the type of films you like, avoid watching the film. However, I thought the entire film was one hell of a weird viewing experience. I can understand some people not liking the film. [My wife for one]. But with all the different plots involved in the film, and the eerie and very strange atmosphere of 'Basin City' [where the surrealistic film takes place] I thought the film was highly original and worth the watch. A very good watch for that matter. There have been many reviews here, so I will skip the film' plot, however, there are a few things I would like to write.
5-0 out of 5 stars Blood for blood and by the gallons
Movie aside, this DVD set was great. There are two versions of this film to choose from on this DVD; the original, and a directors cut.I loved the new version with the added scenes (even though they aren't significant to the plot it's nice to be able to watch them). The additional bonus features are extensive, and Rodriguez's cooking class was also quite fun.
4-0 out of 5 stars One dimension, or maybe two
Rather than adapting the genre of cartoon to film, this movie adapts film to cartoon, as explained in the extra features part of the DVD. That's a helpful insight. What's best about the movie is the visual experience. The sparing use of color, the digital experimentation, the combination of human actors and cartoon backgrounds, the voice-overs, etc. All this is very interesting and seductive to watch -- and it distances the viewer from the appalling violence, making it much easier to take and much less genuinely threatening. I really don't think anyone will be inspired to take a gun to a mob from watching this film. It's ultimately a very sophisticated cartoon.

3-0 out of 5 stars A very resonable beginning
While this mini series is rough around the edges, it showed great promise that has been realized in the most excellent new TV series. The plot is solid and it is an enjoyable watch. The special effects are decent and the acting is first rate.A definite must see.

5-0 out of 5 stars New life for an old friend
I've been rather surprised by some of the reviews here, although I've heard some of the criticisms from local fans as well.I, however, was stunned by this amazing new approach to a classic SF television series.
1-0 out of 5 stars Garbage, pure and simple
The Sci-Fi channel should be ashamed for unleashing this idiotic, sophomoric nonsense onto the viewing public.Supposedly "edgy" and "gritty," the characters are as weak as the stories.A minor note to the filmmakers: get a tripod! They don't cost that much, you pathetic hacks. The only ones who will enjoy this are drolling children who don't know Sci-Fi from a skin rash. ... Editorial Review

There is a thinly, thinly, thinly veiled attempt at creating a plot and at acting in this fairly dirty blue movie. Kara (Venesa Talor) is sent to experience bodily pleasure by her alien species, which leads to numerous unconnected, plot-irrelevant encounters with all kinds of buxom babes and buff guys. The pool, the massage parlor, the avant-garde theater--these kooky humans seem to be going at it everywhere! Kara must believe that she's landed not on Earth, but the planet Silicone, but she never seems to kvetch about it. On the plus side the actors are attractive and keep their wooden deliveries at a minimum to allow full enjoyment of the wretched porno-quality soundtrack. Surprisingly, no mention of thanks to Lee Strasberg in the final credits. Plenty o' skin. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good enough not to skip ahead
There is enough of a plot and the acting is good enough that this movie is watchable, even if it is not just the soft porn that you are looking for.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice Erotic And Fantasy
An advanced alien civilization that has evolved into a community of beings comprising pure light energy sends a representative to earth to record something precious they've lost. The ability to experience sensual pleasure.Femalien really gets into her work in this erotic sci-fi fantasy. It is indeed one of the best lesbian scenes I've ever seen, putting most hardcore stuff to shame.Very recommended.

Hands down a comedy classic. The star power in this movie is ridiculous. They take over the movie in ther own fashion, and you not only forget the plot, the story, and the theme caddy you are supposed to follow.Tha amazing part? You don't even care! You laugh, and quote the lines for days!Caddyshack is one of the best movies to be put on DVD.I wish there were more features!

    Editorial Review

Director Marty DiBergi (Rob Reiner) solemnly alerts us to the glory that was Spinal Tap in his introduction to this "rockumentary" about the legendary British heavy-metal group, featuring lead guitarist Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest), lead singer David St. Hubbins (Michael McKean), bassist Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer), and a succession of drummers whose careers were cut short by spontaneously combusting on their stool, drowning in somebody else's vomit, or otherwise perishing in untimely fashion. Under DiBergi's studious interrogation, the band and their familiars retrace the band's evolution from head-bopping Mersey Beat poseurs to head-banging metal poseurs, each change in musical direction or tonsorial chic having little effect on the surviving trio's sublime idiocy. For, as St. Hubbins (he's the "deep" one, relatively speaking) sagely observes, "It's such a fine line between stupid and clever."Read more

How to be a part of real Rock History without being a musician, singer, producer or someone in the music business? Answer: Make a movie as this one. Almost every serious Rock fan and rock star must have seen this movie or if they haven't, they had better see it before they go out and give another interview. Believe me, there are bands and performers who still talk and give interviews like Spinal Tap did in this movie. This movie is made for these guys. Like me, if you have watched countless interviews of rockstars, popstars and movie stars you cannot do without this classic. The Lead guitarist was my favourite. I could give him an Oscar for his brilliant performance. If Jimmy Page used a bow on his guitar you must wait and see what the lead guitarist ofSpinal Tap does.
4-0 out of 5 stars "No One Knows Who They Were Or What They Were Doing, But Their Legacy Remains"
A seering exploration of life behind the glitz and glamour of rock and roll? Not quite, but it is an amusing mock-u-mentry on a fictitious band named Spinal Tap and the trials and tribulations on the concert road for a group long past its glory days.

3-0 out of 5 stars the king over the other adopted sequals.
first of all.It begun, and Ends with, with HALLOWEEN.out of all the halloween(not including the third chapter,we are talking micheal myers here for now)Halloween 2 was it for me.I can take the other sequals(4 on up to 8)or leave them.Though i do find myself tuning in when they are on t.v.and if i want to exit them.I do.But...Haloween,the first one.did it for me.as for the sequals.H2 is my pick among the myers franchise. Now on to H3.I know im gonna get hate mail for this one.I found it alot more better and entertaining than H4 on up.Because it had that famlier feel to it,like H1 and H2 did.and i liked the little story.and it had carpenters music..I DIG!!!!! The Shape. But in HALLOWEEN.Nick castle was who made "micheal myers" what he is today. The king of serial killer icons.H2's dick warlock.was more intertaining than the latter ones.though i felt his performance was to robotic.i still liked it though.i accepted his flaws.and injoyed his moments.and i still pick his performance over the ones in the other sequals.I Honer John carpenter's HALLOWEEN".Its what got poweful icons like jason(which i freakin love)and freddy and other wonderful cheesy horror movies and such, into the horror world.H2 was a strong chapter in The Shape franchise.dispite its flaws.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Movie Sequel
This movie is one of the best sequels released..It starts with a clip of how the 1st one ended and brings you right into the continuation of the story...it's just as suspenseful as the first with the same feel and cinematography. The 1st and 2nd films are great to watch back to back...a TRUE sequel...check it out!

3-0 out of 5 stars Rob the director missed a great opportunity...
While this is an enjoyable, successful political/romantic comedy as is, it could have been much deeper and richer. Rob Reiner could have made either the president or the female lobbyist a strong conservative, and the film would have benefitted greatly from the clash between political philosophy and sexual attraction. Instead, he took the easy but duller path of having Michael Douglas's president and Annette Benning's lobbyist both lean toward the liberal side. The conservative politicians are the bad guys, of course. I am a moderate Democrat myself, but I would have liked to see a less predictable script.

3-0 out of 5 stars Cute romantic comedy BUT...
I find the lines "You cannot address crime prevention without getting rid of assault weapons and handguns. I consider them a threat to national security, and I will go door to door if I have to, but I'm gonna convince Americans that I'm right, and I'm gonna get the guns." some of the most frightening I have ever heard. Imagine high government officials, backed by their armed bodyguards, coming to you door to intimidate you into behaving according to their wishs. This fascist rant seriously detracts from the rest of the picture. And Richard Dreyfus as a mean Old Republican? He is just not that good of an actor. Stick with the romance and check your Big Brother mentality at the door.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful film, Bad DVD.
I'm looking forward to a decent release of this film on DVD.This 1999 release is overly digitized, with many compression errors, and is Not anamorphic. It deserves a better release. Mr. Reiner, President Shepherd deserves better than this. Unlike a certain failure. ... Read more

Movies and movie characters just don't come cooler than they do in "Cool Hand Luke." The movie's legendary. Almost everyone has seen it, almost everyone has loved it, and almost everyone thinks it's Paul Newman's best performance. Having only seen Newman in 2 movies, I don't know if that's true or not...But it's possible. Newman plays Luke, who is sentenced to 2 years on the chain gang for destroying munincipal property (he was cutting the heads off parking meters). The chain gang is a pretty unpleasant place; The Captain (Strother Martin) is a sadistic man with a very strange voice, the work environment is harsh...But unlike most prison-oriented movies, all the characters are pretty cool. One of the characters that Luke quickly befriends is Dragline (George Kennedy, who won an Oscar for his portrayal and definitely deserved it), who finds Luke intriguing. Indeed he is, he's one of the most intriguing and coolest characters I've ever seen on screen. Throughout the whole movie, he makes the best of his situation (even though he frequently attempts to escape). No matter what is done to him, it never breaks his spirit. Not even in the final scene. This movie's a year away from hitting 40 years old and it hasn't aged a bit. It's still as entertaining and as relevant as it was 39 years ago. All the performances are wonderful (two familar faces have small roles in the movie; Dennis Hopper and Harry Dean Stanton (who was billed as "Dean Stanton") and incredibly likeable. There's many classic scenes in the film ("What we've got here is failure to communicate" and the "egg-eating scene" and the final scene). I know people who don't like old movies. If it came out after 1980, they won't watch it. I think not liking this movie is difficult; It's the epitome of good entertainment.
5-0 out of 5 stars What we got here... A failure to communicate!!!
Okay, the only real extras on the DVD is a theatrical trailer for the film and some biographical information on the movie and it's stars, but Warner Bros. gets a five star rating for great picture and sound and the option of BOTH Standard Full Frame and Widescreen versions on one disc!!! This movie is an absolute classic!!! And it's great to have it on DVD!!! One of the great "men in chains" films!!! The great cast includes Paul Newman,George Kennedy(in his oscar winning role!),Wayne Rogers,Strother Martin,Joe Don Baker,Ralph Waite, and many other classic character actors!!! Two thumbs up!!! Five stars!!! A+

    Editorial Review

Nora Ephron wrote the brisk screenplay for this 1989 romantic comedy, director Rob Reiner made a nicely glossy New York story (very much in a Woody Allen vein) out of it, and Billy Crystal's unstoppable charm made it something really special. Crystal and Meg Ryan play longtime platonic friends who keep dancing around their deeper feelings for one another, and Bruno Kirby and Carrie Fisher are their respective pals who fall in love and get married. Ryan doesn't get a lot of funny material, but her performance is typically alive and intuitive, and she more than holds her own with Crystal's comic motor mouth and sweet sentimentality. Reiner is on comfortable ground, liberated from the burden of making serious statements in the lead-footed manner of subsequent features.Read more

    1-0 out of 5 stars "O" Please!!!!!!!
For me this movie is a painfull thing to watch. I wish that I could give this 0 stars. The infamous fake "O" scene kind of recked true intamacy for me. It may be true that women do this but it is one of the worst kind of lie imaginable.
4-0 out of 5 stars A very good movie for guys and girls.
Can men and women truely just be friends without sex getting in the way? That's the question the movie, 'When Harry Met Sally', asks and tries it's best to answer. This is the story of two characters that meet during a long drive to New York from the University Of Chicago. At first they can't stand each other, but they keep running into each other after years of never talking. They eventually become best friends and the previous question is put into play.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Sex Always Gets in the Way
This movie is on my top 5 list.Harry Burns' theory that men and women can never be friends because the sex always gets it the way is dead nuts accurate.Sally tries to rebut this with a hypothetical...what if the girl is unattractive? Then can you be friends? To which Harry, in the spirit of all men, replies "No, you pretty much want to nail them too."Finally, a romantic comedy with some undertones that men can appreciate.Great movie. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Mansfield horror picture show
This adaptation ... what am I saying?!, this film whose creators had the audacity to call it "Mansfield park" and say it was based on Jane Austen's novel is GHASTLY!
5-0 out of 5 stars I Really Love Jane Austen and I Love This Movie Too!
This movie is not as faithful to the book as some would like, but it is a wonderful film and story in its own right.Mansfield Park is very moving and exciting. The acting and directing is wonderful and I was facinated by the connections between British society and the profits of slavery and sugar cane holding it up in its colonies.Fanny Brice is a very wonderful character and I loved seeing many popular British actors in this movie.Lindsay Duncan plays a dual role and James Purefoy from Rome are in this movie. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Worthy Sequel
The first Spider-Man movie was great, and this one follows in its footsteps.I would go as far as to say it is even better than the first. It is always impressive to see Spider-Man display his powers, and with modern special effects, we get to see him in all of his glory, as his creator Stan Lee had intended. There is one particular part in this movie that brings a tear to my eye.It is that powerful. It is this one part where Spidey uses his powers to the max in order to save a trainload of people. It is simply AWESOME.The rest of the movie is good too, but that is my favorite part.If you like comic books, action films, or both, I recommend this title to you.

5-0 out of 5 stars wow, never thought it would be THIS good
I was hesitant to see Spider man 2 because the first one did not struck a cord with me. The first one is not bad, but it's like every other comic-book adaptation superhero movies out there: you know, cheesy villans, large reliance on 21 century CGI and actions. Basically makes you always come out of the theatre unsatisfied.

    Editorial Review

The fractured Europe post-World War II is perfectly captured in Carol Reed's masterpiece thriller, set in a Vienna still shell-shocked from battle. Holly Martins (Joseph Cotten) is an alcoholic pulp writer come to visit his old friend Harry Lime (Orson Welles). But when Cotton first arrives in Vienna, Lime's funeral is under way. From Lime's girlfriend and an occupying British officer, Martins learns of allegations of Lime's involvement in racketeering, which Martins vows to clear from his friend's reputation. As he is drawn deeper into postwar intrigue, Martins finds layer under layer of deception, which he desperately tries to sort out. Welles's long-delayed entrance in the film has become one of the hallmarks of modern cinematography, and it is just one of dozens of cockeyed camera angles that seem to mirror the off-kilter postwar society. Cotten and Welles give career-making performances, and the Anton Karas zither theme will haunt you. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Next Time We'll Have A Foolproof Coffin.
The Third Man is a 1949 film noir. Winner of the Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival as well as an Oscar for "Best Black & White Cinematography", Carol Reed's The Third Man is often held as one of the best films ever made. The American Film Institute even ranked the picture as 57th on its list of the one hundred best American movies, quite ironic seeing as The Third Man is technically a British film.

I wish Amazon would list if the DVD is widescreen or full screen.I have tried to find but to no avail.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Third Man
    "The Third Man" has long been considered a crowning achievement in movies. It's a suspense film that you can rank right up there with the best of Hitchcock, it stars (well, it says he stars...But he has limited screen time) the writer/director of "Citizen Kane" Orson Welles, and it's an all around great movie. It's featured in Roger Ebert's "The Great Movies" and it's #57 on The American Film Institute's Top 100. This movie might actually be more entertaining than Orson Welles' "Citizen Kane." But, I'm getting to far ahead of myself. Joseph Cotten plays Holly Martins, a writer who has no money and is running out of options. His childhood friend Harry Lime (Welles) is living in Vienna and offers Martins a lot of money to come do some work with him. When Martins arrives, Lime is dead...He was hit by a car. As Martins begin asking questions and learning revelations, he realizes that Lime's death was no accident. Police reports say that there were only two men with Harry Lime when he died; But one witness says there was a third man. As Martins searches for the third man, he falls for Lime's girlfriend Anna and disputes with the police over who has the right source of information. The movie's plot is smart, strong, and very well-written. The movie is suspenseful, well-acted, and well-shot. Three things are what really fuels the movie though. Dialogue, cinematography, and acting. Joseph Cotten as Holly Martins is great and the moment Orson Welles finally appears is a triumphant moment in cinema. The movie is a straight-forward suspense film in the end though. It doesn't dwell on a love story, but instead on the mystery of the third man. There is definitely a love interest and everything in the film, but the film doesn't linger on it. I've seen about 30 of the films on A.F.I.'s Top 100 and this is one of the few I can pick and honestly say that it should be higher up. Anyway, as for the DVD itself. The picture quality is suberb, it's really damn-near flawless. Sound quality is perfect, subtitles are great;

5-0 out of 5 stars Murray's Best Film of the Nineties
Bill Murray's, (since his tenure on SNL) acting career has moved from good to the astounding, a great stand-up in his own right, the actor has pushed his own boundaries, and in the early days, taking on projects way beyond his talent, i.e., The Razors Edge, however, as the years move on, the man continues to entertain us with his particular style of humour.
5-0 out of 5 stars Groundhog Day - Entertaining and Powerful
Bill Murray's humor is one of my guilty pleasures. His 1992 movie, Groundhog Day, is just plain fun.Murray's a hoot as the surly, self-consumed weatherman Phil Connors.Given the great chemistry between Murray and Andie McDowell (Rita), the movie succeeds on its merits alone as a romantic comedy.
5-0 out of 5 stars Highly original
This film has its place as a "Ground Breaking" idea. It's comedy is will placed, subtle and genuinely funny.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Tear-Jerker. Recommended For Girls' Night In.
Academy-Award winner Sally Field ("Norma Rae," "Places In The Heart"), singer Dolly Parton (who co-wrote the hit "I Will Always Love You" with Whitney Houston), Daryl Hannah ("Kill Bill," "A Walk To Remember"), Academy-Award winner Shirley Maclaine ("Terms Of Endearment") and a young Julia Roberts (long before her win for Best Actress in "Erin Brockovich") highlight this entertaining film based on a play. I love this film. Rated PG for mild language and some thematic elements.

5-0 out of 5 stars one of my favorites
I don't expect anything more of a movie than to enjoy it and be entertained. I don't seek to psychoanalyze or offer up in-depth critique, it's only a movie. I either enjoy it or I don't. This movie is priceless, MacLaine & Dukakis are exceptional. Field can still make me cry. EVERY time.

Just watched it last night for the first time in years and it's aged very well.Fun movie with lots of laughs.

4-0 out of 5 stars Awesome 80's gem!
I love Can't Buy Me Love! This was one DVD I had to own, simply because I'd worn out our old VHS of it years and years ago. Years before "McDreamy," Patrick Dempsey plays Ronald, who like most guys in town, has a thing for Cindy Mancini, the captain of the cheerleaders the prettiest girl in Tucson. The nerdy Ronald is constantly picked on and is tired of being considered a nerd. Wanting his senior year to be more than "cards with the tards" as his brother Chucky calls it (played wonderfully by Seth Green when he was just a kid), Ronald finds himself in a position to help Cindy out of a predicament. She needs money to replace a suede outfit she borrowed from her mother and ruined, and he needs to be popular. Cindy doesn't think Ronald's plan will work, but she has little choice. She agrees to pretend to be his girlfriend for one month, but not even Ronald expects his plan to go over with such initial success. But soon, things unravel as they tend to do, and Ronald and Cindy both learn a lot from their mistakes. It's a great 80's movie with a wonderful message about being yourself entwined in it. If you grew up in the 80's and you missed Can't Buy Me Love, for shame! Go get it now. It rocks!

one of my favorite movies of all time and definately the best teen movie of the 80s.i am on bedrest for my pregnancy and this dvd (along with the veronica mars dvd and a book i just finished reading, both of which i just reviewed on amazon) has helped make the last few weeks bearable.really brings back what it was like to be a teen in the late 80s and i can personally tell you that it stands up to repeated watching over and over again.i must have watched this movie five times over the last few weeks and it never gets old.

We received it quickly, and it was as addvertised.Thank you much!

5-0 out of 5 stars Unforgettable, for those of us who are in love with love itself.
I saw this first in 1997 on the Kraft something-something (CBS).The very first part looked so refreshing that I threw in a tape and have absolutely been gone on it ever since. I had read about the newly discovered manuscript and book publication at an earlier time.I bought several copies of the book and gave them out as gifts to friends and relatives.Everyone who has watched it with me has loved it.My brother, in from Knoxville once, and after watching the usual popular movies at that time, was, up to that point fairly unimpressed.I decided to put it in.He watched and even though he had not even commented on any of the others, he looked at me after the end credits then lights on, and said, "That was a good one."You have to know my understated Economics Professor-of-a brother to know how funny that comment was and how it pleased me.The filmed presentation and its screenplay are more flowing, integrated and related to a self-contained start-to-finish story than is the actual book. The scene where Edith is with her ailing uncle, her innocence, her lack of guile or ability to deceive, contrive or lie, is unbelievably attractive in character and essence.Edith is so transparently good and kind and always helping others without taking credit this story is about the rewards of that goodness and that sweetness. There are hints from the beginning that are noticed after the fact, about where the relationships lie and why certain people do what they do and act the way they do.How could the entire story be so simple and yet enchanting enough to cause me to think of it all the time. When Edith first meets Percy by the horse, spilling her apples and yet touching his scratched face with her handkerchief I loved the way the directors let us know the magic was on.When Percy comes in the house for the first time and meets her Edith cannot hide her bright-eyed, innocent crush and that she has met him already. Her facial expressions are uniquely well done as she hides behind the curtain. You can see that she is jealous already, even though she knows he is not there for her nor could there be a crossing of social barriers, yet he was hers, she thought. How many movies are there where one kiss, just one kiss is so dramatic?
5-0 out of 5 stars Pure and Sweet
I was so pleased to find this movie on Amazon.com. I had watched it as a child and pinned over it when I could not find it in stores over the years. This is such a pure love story, with the main characters completely selfless and yet charmingly real. There are too few unpretentious, untampered romantic movies around these days. Most reveal too much- literally. But this one leaves you truly satisfied while lending pleasant modesty to a normally scandalous genre. ... Read more
