4-0 out of 5 stars please...
Anyone offended or disgusted needs to get a grip and any losers seeking a tribute to those wonderful Gerry Anderson kid shows theye watched back in the 1960's need to climb back in their hole, take their bible, and go watch Davey and Goliath or something. The creators of South Park are proud to not belike those 60's kid shows, that was the point. Fans of South Park and fans of smart, ADULT humor will enjoy this.
2-0 out of 5 stars Could have been a great movie, but....
Team America had all the ingredients for a really great movie. By utilizing the Supermarionation-style puppetry and merging it with pop culture and political satire, it could have been the most original movie of the year. Unfortunately, Trey Parker and Matt Stone seem to be addicted to vulgarity, and the flurry of f-words in their theatrical films would have made Richard Pryor blush. The few clever satirical points they made were overshadowed by the foul language, graphic sex, and gratuitous violence that was peppered all over the film. I was particularly turned off by the ridiculously long puking scene, as well as the homosexual encounter between Gary and his boss.

The Best movie I have ever seen. Nothing is better, and nothing will be better. Anybody of ANY age will love this. I will cherish this movie for the rest of my life! Please go out and buy this, or just go out and rent it at Blockbuster. You will not be disappointed. Thank you!
3-0 out of 5 stars The Neverending Story
It has always been difficult for me to believe that a 10 year old is a great warrior. I'm sorry; it just doesn't ring true to me. It works on paper (it always seemed plausible in C.S. Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia books) but on screen I can never believe that a little kid can kill a shark or a dragon or in this case a giant killer wolf. Good thing this little kid came around to save this castle full of cowardly adults.
    5-0 out of 5 stars A children's classic
This film is a like a breath of fresh air compared to the animated computer nonsense that rules movie theaters these days.I remember true children's movies that touched our imaginations and made us have pleasant dreams.Parents would be smart to show their children the movies they grew up watching rather than this new trash. This is a must have for children of all ages (even 28 year olds). ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Possible product packaging issue
I purchased the boxed set in mid-August 2006 and unfortunately, due to a defective disk, returned it immediately.I say unfortunately because the set was immaculate otherwise.Amazon's replacement service kindly sent a replacement set the day I was sending the original back--gotta love that; thanks Amazon!HOWEVER, the replacement was not packaged completely. My replacement set did not include individual cardboard envelopes for the three plastic hard cases.(The holder which holds the three hard cases together was there; but each hard case is further protected by a cardboard envelope, which helps keep them from rubbing against each other in the holder. This is important; because each hard case has chrome-like lettering which could rub off over time without the added protection. This is apparently a QC issue wherever the sets are assembled--I do not think Amazon was to blame). So, regrettably, I returned this set as well.Just be aware you may receive a set which doesn't contain individual cardboard envelopes for each plastic hard case.If you can live with that, it's no big deal and you will love this set--I'm just picky!Star Trek rules! And thanks again, Amazon, for your superb customer service!

1-0 out of 5 stars RIP OFF!!!
How long is Paramount going to milk the Star Trek name? There is NO WAY I'm going to cough up $175 for a DVD set of three seasons of ANY show.
5-0 out of 5 stars Huge price drop just in time
They are going to be re-releasing the original series with added computer generated graphics and effects. When I found this out I went to Amazon to check used copies of the original series so I would have a collection of the origial series without the added CGI.The whole series used to cost upwards to $400 at some retailers, and I was able to pick it up just now brand new off Amazon for ~$175, which is still steep for a non-fan, but is a great deal if like me you want to have a collection of the original series, especially before they add the CGI. ... Editorial Review

Roman Polanski's brooding film noir exposes the darkest side of the land of sunshine, the Los Angeles of the 1930s, where power is the only currency--and the only real thing worth buying. Jack Nicholson is J.J. Gittes, a private eye in the Chandler mold, who during a routine straying-spouse investigation finds himself drawn deeper and deeper into a jigsaw puzzle of clues and corruption. The glamorous Evelyn Mulwray (a dazzling Faye Dunaway) and her titanic father, Noah Cross (John Huston), are at the black-hole center of this tale of treachery, incest, and political bribery. The crackling, hard-bitten script by Robert Towne won a well-deserved Oscar, and the muted color cinematography makes the goings-on seem both bleak and impossibly vibrant. Polanski himself has a brief, memorable cameo as the thug who tangles with Nicholson's nose. One of the greatest, most completely satisfying crime films of all time. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars How to make a detective Movie
This is simply one of the best detective story ever made and Jerry Goldsmith's sound track ( which I also own) is probaby the best sound track. It was his favorite. Jack , Faye & John are at their best.

5-0 out of 5 stars one of the best in the noir genre
fantastic screenplay, best directing and acting, best casting. a very good classic except some racial slurs off and on. the chinatown was tagged as no-mans-land, a zone-out area in almost everywhere in the world, not just in los angeles or new york. this movie tells it all. a modern 'oedipus' version. mother-wife-daughter-husband-father, a twisted tragedy to the extreme. a very nice timeless treat.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Forget it, Jake. It's Chinatown..."
Some movies you just appreciate more with age. What I mean is that there are movies you see when you're younger and you don't fully appreciate them or admire how well crafted they are. This was the case with "Chinatown" for me.I saw it many years ago for the first time, and while I enjoyed it somewhat, at the time I thought it was long, slow and dreadfully bleak at the end.Of course, I didn't get the point that that's what "Chinatown" is supposed to be, and that's why it's brilliant.I watched it recently for the second time, and I fell in love with it.Absolute love.

Sydney Pollack's 1985 multiple-Oscar winner is a sumptuous and emotionally satisfying film about the life of Danish writer Karen Blixen (Meryl Streep), better known as Isak Dinesen, who travels to Kenya to be with her German husband (Klaus Maria Brandauer) but falls for an English adventurer (Robert Redford). The film is slow in developing the relationship, but it is rich in beautiful images of Africa and in the romantic tone surrounding Blixen's gradual discovery of her life and voice. One downside: while we may all love Redford, he is as convincingly British as Kevin Costner is in Read more

Finally... a film that displays real African beauty - beyond the Safari. OUT OF AFRICA gives viewers a glimpse of the beautiful Kenyan tribes, communities, farms, and scenery.
4-0 out of 5 stars Sumptuous Feast
I heard of this movie when I was a toddler. My only recollection of it was that it won a lot of Oscars. If I watched this movie then, I wouldn't have appreciated it.With advent of technology, we are able to watch this movie as how it intended to be watched. The scenery of Africa was outstanding, the cast was simply magnificent, the soundtrack provided by Barry was memorable, and the complicated love story between Karen Blixen (Meryl Streep) and her philandering husband and the mysterious English hunter (Robert Redford) were never contrived and very real. The story was beautifully woven to the point of Tsavo when the incident motivated Karen to move out of Africa permanently.Still, the love and passion that she wrote about her man and the land was faithfully restored in this beautifully made movie.Movie such as this nature is found wanting in these modern days, which seemed to be preceded by special effects. The new documentary of 70 minutes enabled us to have an insight into some memorable scenes in the movie.A must-have and a movie to be shared between the loved ones.Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Trippy...
A few years before this movie came out, a movie called "Tommy" came out. This movie took the concept album of The Who's "Tommy" and transferred it to the big-screen, using only music and absolutely no dialogue to further the story along. I never turn off a movie, no matter how bad I think it is. Except "Tommy." In reality, the film wasn't bad...It just annoyed me. There was a huge lack of entertainment going on. I wasn't expecting much from The Wall, but I've heard so many good things about it. I had to see it. Let me say, I haven't heard a lot of Pink Floyd stuff. I've only listened to four albums (Umma Gumma, Dark Side of the Moon, Atom Heart Mother, and Wish You Were Here). Yes, that's right. I haven't even heard The Wall album. This film is simalar to Tommy in the fact that Pink Floyd's music plays throughout the film. The difference is, there is some dialogue in the film although it doesn't move the plot along at all. The other difference is, this film has amazing visuals and is fun to watch. The movie's plot is basically a rock star named Pink (Bob Geldof) sits watching a war movie and begins to remember his childhood. Blended in is memories, fantasies, and a bunch of other [...] that results in one trippy movie to watch. But, as I said, the visuals are what keep you watching. The movie's metaphors (especially the title one) are very smart, the script is by Roger Waters (although I don't know how a person could write a script like this). If you're a Floyd fan/arty kinds of films, check this out for sure. All movies, in my opinion, are forms of art...But this film is actually like a work of art. Anyway, if you're just a moviegoer looking for some entertainment on a Saturday night...This isn't the movie for you.

4-0 out of 5 stars A cheap price to pay for memories
Staying over at my house in high school almost always meant The Wall would make its way to the VCR. Not only because it was a great movie, but also because it had been stolen from every video store in town. By the time I was out of high school, the tape was literally worn out, and the weekly viewings had ceased.

5-0 out of 5 stars They are the strangers
Cult films don't come much more groundbreaking than "Dark City" -- it was bending reality before the Matrix ever did.
5-0 out of 5 stars Probably the Best Sci-Fi Film of the 1990's
Incredibly imaginative, ground-breaking visual effects, terrific acting, heavily atmospheric, crisply paced and written... it just works on every single level and it works brilliantly. Seeing this in the cinema the first time, my mouth was agape for a goodly portion of the film, particularly the "tuning" of the city sequences and the very memorable climax. This simply in one of the great Sci-Fi films of all time, and also goes into history with films like DARKMAN and THE MATRIX as the best comic-book films that weren't comic books, which is mostly due to Proyas' direction and the co-writing of David Goyer, who wrote the BLADE films, co-wrote BATMAN BEGINS, and has worked on several different actual comics over the years. Great, great film. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Review of the Court Jester
The Court Jester is a really great timeless comedy, from the day when comedy involved word games and soem slap stick; as opposed to the more vulgar bathroom and bedroom humor that is typical in today's comedys. Its got it all; laughs, great music, swashbuckling action...and best of all a happy ending. I recommend this movie to all who want to see a good "feel good" film that the entire family can watch. Editorial Review

Psychological terrorism and supernatural horror have rarely been dramatized as effectively as in this classic 1968 thriller, masterfully adapted and directed by Roman Polanski from the chilling novel by Ira Levin. Rosemary (Mia Farrow) is a young, trusting housewife in New York whose actor husband (John Cassavetes), unbeknownst to her, has literally made a deal with the devil. In the thrall of a witches' coven headquartered in their apartment building, the young husband arranges to have his wife impregnated by Satan in exchange for success in a Broadway play. To Rosemary, the pregnancy seems like a normal and happy one--that is, until she grows increasingly suspicious of her neighbors' evil influence. Polanski establishes this seemingly benevolent situation and then introduces each fiendish little detail with such unsettling subtlety that the film escalates to a palpable level of dread and paranoia. By the time Rosemary discovers that her infant son "has his father's eyes" ... well, let's just say the urge to scream along with her is unbearably intense! One of the few modern horror films that can claim to be genuinely terrifying, Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars This Is No Dream! This Is Really Happening!
Rosemary's Baby is Roman Polanski's 1968 horror landmark based on Ira Levin's novel, published a year earlier. Polanski's first American film is said to be very faithful to the source material and is often his most popular work among mainstream audiences.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very good, eerie movie!
This is a horror classic. It's worth all the hype and still stands the test of time. This is a thinking-person's horror movie. It's very frighening in an intellectual way but it's still a good all-around scare. I like the occassional in-your-face horror flick but this is not one of those. Still, if you watch closely, it's horribly frightening and some scenes stay with you for days. Slasher-flick fans be both warned and informed - this is not that kind of horror film but it's still well worth your time to check out.

Roman Polanski wouldn't win an Oscar until over 30 years later (Best Director, 'The Pianist'), it was this film that skyrocketed him. That's not to say it's his best film or even his most popular, but it's the film where people really started to take notice of him. Polanski directs and writes the screenplay for the horror film which stars Mia Farrow ('The Purple Rose of Cairo'), John Cassavetes, and Ruth Gordon (in an Oscar winning role) among others.

5-0 out of 5 stars South Park.. a decade old and still full steam ahead.
First thing, WHO said "Jarred Has Aides" wasn't a great episode? In fact I believe it to be one of the FUNNIEST of its particular season. Although, this season which has some fantastic episodes the subsequent 2 seasons are EVEN stronger, but this is a great followup to season 5.. with only a few.. well no real flat out duds, there's always SOMETHING in there.. but it doesn't quite stack up to the seasons around it.
5-0 out of 5 stars THERE IS NO BETTER SEASON
As a HUGE south park fan I feel that out of all the seasons there is none which can compare to this one, every episode is brilliant, buy it now!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best season of a top-notch show
After an excellent season 1 of 'Curb,' Lary David takes the comedic art of socially awkward situations to an even higher level in Season 2.
5-0 out of 5 stars Neuroses never looked so fun before
Larry David, writer and co-creator of Seinfeld (not to mention the real life George Costanza), has created a show that carries on the Seinfeld tradition of deriving scripts from the quirky oddities of everyday life.It follows his life after Seinfeld, trying to develop his next project and get along with the rest of society despite a steady string of poor judgment calls and cringe-inducing faux pas that alienate nearly everyone around him. This is a very funny show. The second season features lots of great guest appearences, such as Seinfeld alumni Jason Alexander and Julia-Louis Dreyfus, Shaquile O'Neill, and Richard Lewis, all playing themselves.

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW, WHAT A SHOW!
I just finished watching the season finale and I must say I am going to miss this show. In the past few months I have watched all four seasons and this is the ONLY television show that almost every time leaves me with a huge laugh at the end. This show is intelligent and so brilliantly simple and complex at the same time. Do yourself a favor, WATCH this show, comprised of people who are at the top of their craft! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A quest worth taking...
`Galaxy Quest' is in all actuality a decent spoof on the `Star Trek' era.In the film a group of washed up actors from the TV series `Galaxy Quest' are asked to help a group of aliens led by Mathesar (Colantoni) defend their people against the evil Sarris (Sachs). In an attempt to have some `fun' Jason (Allen), the cocky jerk who was once the captain of their `ship' decides to agree and reluctantly the rest of the cast does too.Along the way they learn to trust and care about one another, and they also get themselves in some pretty corny, yet funny, situations. What makes this film even better than just a spoof of a series is that it spoofs a phenomenon by having our characters signing autographs at `Galaxy Quest Conventions' where `trekie' type fans have gathered, and in the end they must rely on a group of these fans to save them from peril. If you want a good time full of laughs then `Galaxy Quest' is the ride for you.The cast, including Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Sam Rockwell, Tony Shalhoub and Daryl Mitchell are great in their roles and add much needed comic relief. All in all it's a great attempt at a parody.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not received
I never received Galaxy Quest from your vendor and numerous attempts to make contact have failed. This expereience had led me away from your sponsored stores. I just do not have time for travking lost items with uncooperative vendors when so many others are willing to deal honestly. Good lesson for $15.00

A delight for young children and adults.Safe to have children watch alone but more fun together!

4-0 out of 5 stars Amazing short films
The Wallace & Gromit shorts are marvels of clay animation with wonderfully silly plots.I wasn't aware that the original versions had been tampered with until reading some of the other reviews on this page.Such actions always bother me--I'd much prefer to see the film the way the creator intended it.Nevertheless, there is still plenty to enjoy here. The cheerful lunacy of Nick Park's world shines through. The highlight is "A Close Shave." ... If you "love" love stories the way I do, this bittersweet tale of two people from totally different worlds will surely melt your heart (if it doesn't you better make sure it's still ticking).Seriously, it is an excellent movie with an excellent plot and EXCELLENT performances by Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson. They make Ester Hoffman and John Norman Howard come to life.GET AND ENJOY!!! 5-0 out of 5 stars Santa Claus is real
Tim Allen really puts the heart into this movie to make anyone young or old truly believe. The movie is even entertaining for young children with nothing to frighten them and there is no swearing which is another plus. One of my favorite Christmas movies.

1-0 out of 5 stars Tim Allen is a talentless moron!
The Santa Clause is just another stupid movie starring that no talent lowlife Tim Allen.Bottom Line: this movie isn't funny, Tim Allen isn't funny (never has been), and by spending money on this movie you will not only be as stupid as Tim Allen, you'll be throwing your dollar bills right out the window. It's a shame that a drunk driving, drug peddling, zero like Tim Allen can become so popular amoung children by using family films as his bread and butter.I tried on a pair of shoes yesterday that were funnier than Tim Allen! What a lame excuse for an actor.
1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality
This DVD skips quite a bit, making it hard to relax for what should be an enjoyable movie. Also, the plastic covering on the DVD casewas torn a little bit when the security sticker was taken off.I've never had a movie do that before.I would think twice in the future before buying movies from Amazon.com. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing and without direction
As a fan of Homer and Virgil I have to say this was one of the most disappointing movies seen in some time. After the early scene of the "thousand ships" which was incredible, the plot slid quickly downhill. Mr. Pitt did a good job with the character of Achilles and others were acceptable in their roles but so much of the story had been changed that it not only made an Odyssey sequel problematic but robbed the story of the wonderful reconciliation stories that followed. The characters become one-dimensional and unbelievable from a script that took far too many liberties in attempts to "improve" a story that has stood the test of millenia. Sad that the director/writers could not have left well enough alone and just told the story as it was meant to be told without the improvements of individuals noticably less talented than Virgil or Homer. It gains two stars for the stunning photography and visual effects but loses other stars for its tedious and directionless plot.

1-0 out of 5 stars Torture for historians
A friend had just bought this DVD. I happened to be visiting. He wanted to show me how the special effects had been used in creating the armies. I thought he was just going to show me a few minutes of film, but once it went into the DVD player, it just ran on and on.
4-0 out of 5 stars "Sometimes The God's Bless You In The Morning And Curse You In The Afternoon"
I must admit that initially I didn't want to watch this movie. I'm not a big Brad Pitt fan and I viewed this as just another vehicle for Brad to strike a glamorous pose or two and nothing more. Fortunately I changed my mind and gave it and chance and I'm happy I did.

This story gives me the chance to get back to nature the way it waswhen the free trappers still roamed the west.My whole familyloves watching it time and again.

5-0 out of 5 stars starkly beautiful
There is a poetry to this movie that has stayed with me - from the first time I ever saw it, when it first came out. From the haunting strains of Indian flutes as we first see the ferry bringing Jeremiah to the first stop in his new life - a trading post outfitting those intrepid or crazy enough to disappear into the wild - to the end, when he has weathered more than anyone today probably could survive, we are absorbed into a world that will never be possible again. Trappers routinely sleep in deep snow without tents and without freezing to death; a mountain man, mauled by a bear and incapacitated, calmly writes out his last will and testament, leaving his rifle to "whutever finds it - Lord hope it be a White man", and freezes to a tree; another mountain man shaves his head to prevent himself being scalped.

5-0 out of 5 stars Every American adolescent should see this outstanding film
I am in awe of every aspect of this film. The screenplay is almost beyond compare. The acting by Ms. Bancroft and Miss Duke was of the highest merit. The directing and cinematography were both incredible. This is one of America's great achievements in film making. I will go into detail on a few of these points:
5-0 out of 5 stars Still Powerful Acting Showcase for the Two Leads But Penn Also Deserves Acclaim
Even though Anne Bancroft had been toiling in execrable B-movies like "Gorilla at Large" for a decade, it took the cinematic recreation of her much acclaimed Broadway performance as teacher Annie Sullivan to establish her in the front ranks. Patty Duke, then a prodigious child actress, also recreates her stage performance in the overwhelmingly primal role of the pre-adolescent Helen Keller, the subsequent author and social activist who lost her sight and hearing at nineteen months old. Yet, none of their virtuoso acting overshadows the considerable contributions of director Arthur Penn in making William Gibson's play resonate onscreen in this 1962 film. Using deep focus shadows and compositions and off-kilter camera angles to magnify the intensity of the drama, Penn lends the true-life story even greater emotional impact.
