This big, fat theatrical bomb has a lot going for it. There's the three leads, Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker, playing three resurrected witches who wreak havoc on Salem, Massachusetts, 300 hundred years after they were hung. There's music, special effects, and magic. There's a surprisingly horror-filled plot. Whoops, hold up on that last one. It's probably the extremes that this film goes to (displaying a Disney label), such as the witches sucking the life out of a little girl in the first five minutes, that put the brakes on any success for Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun filled witchy romp!
I have loved this movie ever since my mom took me to see it in the theater when I was 6 years old. Ever since (even after I was allowed to watch actual scary halloween movies) this has been my very favorite movie to put in the DVD player, pop some popcorn and have fun.

The off-Broadway comedy-horror-musical hit that ran for years makes a successful transfer to film with a bevy of big-name cameos and two perfectly cast leads. Rick Moranis is the nebbish Seymour, who pines for flower-girl Audrey (Ellen Greene) while living in the basement of florist Mr. Mushnik (Vincent Gardenia). Things start turning around for Seymour, though, after he buys a little plant during a solar eclipse, christens it Audrey II, and discovers that it likes to drink blood. Soon enough, though, Seymour finds out that Audrey II, now grown to epic proportions, is in actuality a "mean green mother from outer space" that is hell-bent on world domination. Based on the 1960 Roger Corman cheapie that featured a young Jack Nicholson, Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
I knew nothing of Little Shop of Horrors before I bought the DVD, except that it was a musical. I'm very happy that I bought it. It's one of my favorite musicals now. The hit off-broadway musical was a success in its transition to film. The special effects of Audrey II were also amazing and very life-like (especially for the 80s). And of course the acting and the music was amazing. Rick Moranis did a great job, and seems to have been made for this role.

5-0 out of 5 stars "I'm a mean, green mutha from outer space!"
This movie is freakin' WEIRD! Thankfully, I like weird. For the uninitiated, this is a musical about a man-eating plant (voiced by Levi Stubbs of The Four Tops). It must be seen to be believed. Our hero, Seymour, discovers a never-before-seen plant, naming it Audrey II (after his coworker and love interest, Audrey). Turns out, the plant eats humans, as he learns when it drinks his blood. At first, Seymour befriends the plant, who helps him get around Audrey's boy friend, a sadistic dentist (the song about him and pseudo-S&M scene that result are freakin' hilarious!) Eventually, things get out of hand - the plant's uniqueness earns Seymour much fame, even though nobody is aware of the plant's dangers. When the plant eats Seymour's boss, things get out-of-hand, and the final battle between the two is hilarious also - Levi Stubbs offers his amazing pipes, declaring "I'm a mean, green mutha from outer space!" - one of my favorite movie quotes. This movie is a real side-splitter, and must be seen!

5-0 out of 5 stars just great fun
Rick Moranis is adoreable, Steve Martin is appropriately sleazy, and Ellen Greene is a most unlikely heroine.Taken as a whole, this movie is wonderful...charming even.A definite must have for anyone who enjoys all things quirky but sweet. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great family movie
Great, Great movie, one that I have loved since I was a kid. It has everything in it as well, romance, action, intrigue and a stellar cast. Also singing and dancing. So if you're not a fan of musicals, not really your kind of movie. It is based on a true story of the Newsies strike in New York. Highly recommended for people of all ages.

4-0 out of 5 stars Possible product packaging issue
I purchased the boxed set in mid-August 2006 and unfortunately, due to a defective disk, returned it immediately.I say unfortunately because the set was immaculate otherwise.Amazon's replacement service kindly sent a replacement set the day I was sending the original back--gotta love that; thanks Amazon!HOWEVER, the replacement was not packaged completely. My replacement set did not include individual cardboard envelopes for the three plastic hard cases.(The holder which holds the three hard cases together was there; but each hard case is further protected by a cardboard envelope, which helps keep them from rubbing against each other in the holder. This is important; because each hard case has chrome-like lettering which could rub off over time without the added protection. This is apparently a QC issue wherever the sets are assembled--I do not think Amazon was to blame). So, regrettably, I returned this set as well.Just be aware you may receive a set which doesn't contain individual cardboard envelopes for each plastic hard case.If you can live with that, it's no big deal and you will love this set--I'm just picky!Star Trek rules! And thanks again, Amazon, for your superb customer service!

1-0 out of 5 stars RIP OFF!!!
How long is Paramount going to milk the Star Trek name? There is NO WAY I'm going to cough up $175 for a DVD set of three seasons of ANY show.
5-0 out of 5 stars Huge price drop just in time
They are going to be re-releasing the original series with added computer generated graphics and effects. When I found this out I went to Amazon to check used copies of the original series so I would have a collection of the origial series without the added CGI.The whole series used to cost upwards to $400 at some retailers, and I was able to pick it up just now brand new off Amazon for ~$175, which is still steep for a non-fan, but is a great deal if like me you want to have a collection of the original series, especially before they add the CGI. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Get dream-fasted!
I remember seeing little parts of it when i was a kid in a film show back in the 80s and it intrigued and scared me. Last year i was fortunate to see this edition on sale and bought it and was beaming with expectation. So i finally saw the film, after all these years and i'm still intrigued and scared by it! It is visually beautiful and i think that's its strongest asset. The dialogue can be a bit corny sometimes and the story is very straightfoward (that's not criticism). The score by Trevor Jones is astonishingly inspired and memorable. I wish i could find the soundtrack cd sometime soon cause it's just amazing! On the whole a wonderful, lush, inspiring motion picture any fantasy fan must own!

5-0 out of 5 stars A unique story that can never be repeated
Jim Henson is more genius than we know.Beyond Labyrinth, Big Bird and Miss Piggy comes a story far different and far more fantastical than anything ever exhibited on screen to date.It was a movie created many, many years before its time that explored aspects and concepts that exist in the philosophies of some of our oldest religions today...along with a great adventure story.
5-0 out of 5 stars A major accomplishment!
It took an infinity of imagination to make The Dark Crystal, a film so overflowing with invention that you literally have to watch it about 100 times just to take it all in. Everyone involved, from the director to the best boy gave the film such loving affection and made it the best it could possibly be. Kid's movies (if you want to call it that) these days simply are not what they used to be and probably never will be again. This is yet another thing that makes The Dark Crystal so damn precious.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Can Watch This Over and Over and ......
Bob Wiley arrives at Dr. Marvin's office. Little does this psychologist on the verge of national recognition realize that this new patient is like human crazy glue. Bob follows Dr. Marvin and his family to their vacation home in Lake Winnepesaukee, New Hampshire, where he endears himself to the doctor's family and simultaneously drives the doctor bananas, literally.
4-0 out of 5 stars No one plays low key and laid back like Bill
And he does it well in this quiet side spliting comedy.Richard is the uptight, overly sure of his psychological abilities, kind of pompus shrink who just wrote a best seller (which is what psychologist's live for).Bill is the seriously afflicted nerotic Richard inherits from another doctor trying to dump him off on an unsuspecting collegue.Richard goes away with his family for a month of vacation and Bill totally freaks out, trying every way he knows how to find out were Richard went. Bill finally finds out were they are, and shows up on Richards front step.Much to Richards chagrin, Bill's childlike quirkiness endears him to Richards family, so much so, that they practically invite him to move in.This movie is not slapstick, but very low key hilarious.Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars A FUNNY AND ENJOYABLE BILL MURRAY COMEDY
Bob Wiley (Bill Murray) is an insufferable neurotic with a bad case of agoraphobia. His latest psychiatrist is the equally insufferable novelist-shrink, Dr. Leo Marvin (Richard Dreyfuss). The two hit it off in this hilarious film of Doctor-Patient meltdown. When Bob is told that his newest psychiatrist is going on a one month vacation--no problem, Right? Wrong! Bob goes through every means at his disposal to find out just where his Doctor has gone.

Freddy Benson (Steve Martin) is a crass, loud American.Laurence Jameson (Michael Caine) is a suave, urbane European. Their common ground is that they both are confidence men, and they meet in a train compartment as Benson is scamming his way across Europe, taking advantage of women's generosity. The two are forced into a rivalry, which culminates in a wager to see who can be the first to bilk $50,000 out of American heiress Janet Colgate (Glenne Headly). 5-0 out of 5 stars Among the Top Comedies on My List
This one has it all - an inspired script (Lady Fanny of Omaha?) based on a clever premise, an opportunity for Steve Martin to work a full range of schticks (including a very earnest, "don't pity me, you don't have to do that" ruse), a richly-photographed Riviera backdrop and a stylish jazz violin score by the late Miles Goodman. Of special note is Michael Caine's wonderful man-about-town, a role that would have been tailor-made (pun intended) for the late David Niven and executed to perfection by Caine, who is at the top of his form here. Caine and Martin playing cat-and-mouse with one another is great fun. And, oh yes, there's that over-the-top segment about Ruprecht that a friend and I have bantered about for years.

So many hysterical scenes that make everyone I watch it with laugh. The ending is one that I can only aspire too, and I can't give it away! However, I will say that watching con artists con eachother is on par with watching Josh Holloway trying to portray "Sawyer" his con-artist through the TV series Lost.Enjoy!

4-0 out of 5 stars BEST COMEDY-HORROR EVER: BAR NONE!
I must admit, time has not lessened the appeal of this classic comedy-horror film. In fact, considering the bloated horror films that pass themselves off as comedy-horror film's, this one stands head-and-shoulders above them all. I don't like films in the horror-zombie genre. I find most [if not all] a bit repulsive. However, this one is an exception. The comedic elements of the film are great, and the horror, although a bit dated and predictable is ably pulled off due to the excellent cast. Mainly: Burt (Clu Gulager), Ernie (Don Calfa) and Frank (James Karen)
5-0 out of 5 stars The Living Dead have Returned, and they need more paramedics...
You want zombies that run after survivors for brains with a strong dash of comedy? Return is your movie! Yes, these zombies speak, usually chanting "Brains!" to ease the pain they feel when undernourished. A spoof of sorts on Romero's films, Return of the Living Dead is a classic zombie film brought to life by comical performances, solid directing that allows the actors to breathe onscreen, and loads of zombies.

Hey guys! We are not plugging this movie well enough. If my wife didn't give me this for a birthday or something and I wasn't just in the mood to watch something different this evening I would have never picked up on this great little movie. We need to get the word out! My take: agreed this is a great team to pull this off. The non-surprise ending could have been so hoaky but they actually did it in a way I was glad Becky finally got left out of it. Let her find her own match if there is one. But I see a whole lot of depth in the whole point of this comedy. It is all true! None of this was a con. That is the beauty of it. The beauty of it is the con. This is so true in so many ways, and we love it and know we do. So the movie is not just cute, not just funny. It has a very serious point about life to make if we just see it. Didn't someone say something like "Heaven is all around you, you just don't see it"? You need the right story and things will be well.

Actor-turned-director Edward James Olmos set out to spread the word against the destructiveness of gang violence with this 1992 gritty drama. Set in the barrios of East Los Angeles, he attempts to cover 30 years in the life of a family with strong gang ties. This brutally realistic story may not intentionally glorify violence, but it offers no answers. (Olmos actually shot the prison scenes in Folsom, which explains their harsh reality.) Great performances though, especially by Olmos and William Forsythe. Olmos plays a gang leader released from prison who is finally in touch with himself, only to realize it is too late. The one major problem with this well-intentioned flick is that it is rated R for violence, nudity, and profanity. Therefore, the kids who most need its message are not, in theory, the ones who will see it. Read more

This movie is the best prison gang movie of all time. I have purchased this movie 3 times, always someone borrowing it and not returning. I recommend this movie to anyone who likes these kind of movies.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great movie to own, 4 1/2 stars!!
This definitely is one of the best movies to own!! If you haven't seen it yet, you should... If you've seen the movie "Blood In, Blood Out", then you should definitely see this one... if you haven't seen either one, then i reccommend you buying them both as a combo pack or separately (if you want to save $$)...

3-0 out of 5 stars Emergency season one DVD: something old, something new
It is a great pleasure to see this series brought to DVD.I loved it when it was on NBC in the 1970s, and again in syndication. It hasn't been seen much in the last 20 years and the TV version was changed for syndication.I was really looking forward to experiencing the show as I knew it in the 1970s.
4-0 out of 5 stars Rampart, this is Squad 51
The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the clumsy disc format (I really hate double sided discs) and the dearth of bonus features.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thematically Brilliant
I admit, I haven't watched this movie recently (say, within the last 5 years), but it really struck a chord with me.This movie explores the theme of projection, i.e., seeing people as it is convenient to see them or as you want to see them, which may have very little to do with what they are really like.

This film is notable in that it does address the issue of socioeconomic class, which we Americans like to delude ourselves does not exist in our society but which always has and in all probability always will play as central a role as in any society regardless of political ideology.

    5-0 out of 5 stars Mmmmmmm!!CHRISTMASY!!HA HA!!
Christmas specials are usually so boring & formulaic, but not this one! It's as insanely & surreally hilarious as the Saturday morning TV show, but it also has a good message about selflessness (without being preachy about it), plus even acknowledging the celebration of Jesus' birth as the origin of Christmas! My favorite part is when Grace Jones (!!) sings "Little Drummer Boy" while at the playhouse (probably the strangest rendition of that song I've ever heard or seen!), when she was misdelivered there!(She was actually being mailed to the WHITE House -- I didn't know Reagan was into that kind of music!)Hilarious year-round viewing!!

Enchanting movie especially for kids.It kept the whole family engrossed the whole time.No bombings -- no killings -- just wonderful imaginative fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars 'Omri" One Of The Most Likable Kids Ever On Film
I'm a sucker for nice kids, not those snotty ones seen so often in films from the '60s to the present. In here is a wonderful neat-looking little kid, Hal Sardino, who is unusual in that this is the only movie he ever starred in. To his credit, Scardino went on to live a "normal" life after this film, eventually going to college as a regular student like you and me with no celebrity status.
3-0 out of 5 stars COWBOYS AND INDIANS
Based on a popular children's novel, THE INDIAN IN THE CUPBOARD should entertain young children with its tale of a magical cupboard that can bring toys to life.Hal Scardino stars as young Omri who receives this magical gift from his brother. He discovers its qualities when his best friend gives him a toy Indian, and when he puts it in the cupboard, it comes to life, a tiny little live Indian (played with straight frankness by Litefoot). His friend wants a toy too so he puts the cowboy figure in and out comes a swaggering, funny David Keith as the gunslinger.Britain's popular comic Steve Coogan shows up too as a British medic that the boys use to help when both the Indian and the cowboy are wounded.

this movie is really funny every time i see it i always laugh also the special features are really good i especially like the long-lost book on tape version done by some sort of shakesperean actor when the guy goes weeoo-weeoo or aaah it's really funny hey just buy this cause it's a funny movie like the naked guns or scary movies

5-0 out of 5 stars Unique Kung Fu Delight
Steve Oedekerk (the writer of the film BRUCE ALMIGHTY) directed, wrote and starred in this quite silly kung fu spoof. Though one hesitates to call it groundbreaking, KUNG POW is genuinely remarkable, in that much of it is composed of scenes from a 1977 Chinese film with modern actors smoothly and digitally inserted into them. Watch the credits at the end for examples of what I'm talking about.
4-0 out of 5 stars Very funny!
I do not think this film invested much money in production, but the idea of re-use the old chinese film by mocking on it is hularious. So, who's care about the cost of making it anyway.

    Editorial Review

Nagisa Oshima's sensational, 1976 film concerns a woman (Eiko Matsuda) whose obsessive sexual relationship with her husband (Tatsuya Fuji) crosses the line from passion into the territory of life and death. One of the most sexually explicit films ever to play in mainstream theaters (though it did run into legal trouble both in the U.S. and Japan), it has an air of palpable doom, suggesting that sex can be a doorway to suicide. Lest this sound like grunge-era noodling over dreams of self-destruction, be assured that the Kyoto-born Oshima (Read more

"For four days, carrying the part she'd severed from his body, Sada wandered through Tokyo. Those arresting her were astounded that she glowed with happiness. The story shocked all of Japan. The compassion of the people made her strangely popular. These events took place in 1936."

This is one strange movie that will leave its viewer scratching his/her head. Not really much point to this other than the director's attempt to film as much porn as possible in the obvious endeavor to be labled "artsy, edgy," and "ahead of his time."No wonder Madonna raved about this film - her gratuitous attempts to garner the same lables put her in a similar class as Oshima.
4-0 out of 5 stars Of Lust And Love
The film is based upon an actual 1936 incident that took place in Japan. On the streets of Tokyo, a geisha was discovered wandering about with the severed genitals of her lover in hand. Reportedly, she was in a state of complete rapture. Upon her arrest, the woman became a cult figure to her nation, a symbol of the ultimate sexual union. In this film we are even afforded the opportunity to view the sexual acts being performed, because of the moments of oral sex and penetration, this film is groundbreaking with its unabashed depiction of a pure love intertwined with an extreme sexual drive that goes awry. ... When a Hollywood heartthrob (Matt Dillon, playing a Brad Pitt look-alike) "outs" his small-town high-school drama teacher Howard Brackett (Kevin Kline) during the Oscar telecast, the entire (fictional) town of Greenleaf, Indiana, wonders if Howard's really gay. More to the point, Howard wonders, too--quite a dilemma considering his pending marriage to Emily (Joan Cusack), who's patiently tolerated a three-year engagement. While a TV reporter (Tom Selleck) covers the ensuing furor, screenwriter Paul Rudnick and director Frank Oz make good-natured humor their highest priority, turning the "crisis" of coming out into a laugh-out-loud spin on conventional romantic comedy. The result is a film that delivers constant laughs and a golden opportunity for its fine cast to show off their considerable comedic talents--especially Cusack, who deservedly earned an Oscar nomination for her hilarious performance as the bride who's almost as confused as her would-be husband. That Rudnick and Oz have made a great comedy that's both old-fashioned and relevant to the late 20th century is no small feat, but

5-0 out of 5 stars Laughed and Cried
This was one of the best movies I have ever seen. I love Joan Cusak and she was so fabulous in this movie. I've never paid much attention to Tom Selleck, and this is the first time I have ever seen him without a mustache, and he looks so gorgeous in this movie! It was great. Got a little preachy at the end, but the rest of the movie made that part worth it.

4-0 out of 5 stars KK Can Dance
I quite enjoyed watching this film, which is why I give it four stars, even though I think there are some things about it that are seriously problematic. So, why did I like it? Joan Cusack, Matt Dillon, Kevin Kline (in that order) and also a passably funny script -- at least one that is well structured for a feel-good viewing experience.

5-0 out of 5 stars A brief comment
This is a smart, well-crafted heist movie, which I enjoyed much more than the earlier The Heist (which was just too overly and self-consciously clever with all the back-up plans and odd dialog). The three main actors, Brando, Norton, and De Niro all turn in exemplary performances, probably the one and only time all three ever worked togegther. Watching De Niro use all his safe-cracking skills is fascinating, something most of us probably know nothing about. After all, one doesn't meet high-level safe-crackers every day. :-) The safe-cracking scene with the thermal torch made for some spectacular cinematography what with all the sparks, and the way De Niro figures out how to open the safe so quickly is inspired. In the commentary on the DVD, they mention that's the way it actually happened when they filmed it, and it's another spectacular scene, but I won't say anything more so as not to spoil it for you. But you'll see what I mean when you come to it. The ending is also a surprise, and the unobstrusive musical score adds drama and some nice mood touches where they're appropriate. Overall a good flick and worth your time and money.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing Is A Compliment
I had high hopes for this movie, Marlon Brando, Robert DeNiro, and Edward Norton, how could I go wrong with this movie with a cast like that? Despite the cast this movie sinks under a terrible script. The film is often tedious and the characters never seemed very realistic to me. This was a poorly contrived and at times silly film. The tension never really builds even though the filmmakers try. Embarassing for all involved. I only give it two stars to be nice to the cast.

5-0 out of 5 stars extremely entertaining and suspenseful
Granted, there is a certain sense of deja vu that comes from watching "The Score".The De Niro character, Nick Wells, is extremely familiar, like a cross between the roles he played in "Midnight Run" and "Heat".And that's not to mention the whole idea of Nick getting sucked into doing 'one last heist' by his associate partner Max, played by none other than Marlon Brando.
