    Editorial Review

Disney's 1992 animated feature is a triumph of wit and skill. The high-tech artwork and graphics look great, the characters are strong, the familiar story is nicely augmented with an interesting villain (Jafar, voiced by Jonathan Freeman), and there's an incredible hook atop the whole thing: Robin Williams's frantically hilarious vocal performance as Aladdin's genie. Even if one isn't particularly moved by the love story between the title character (Scott Weinger) and his girlfriend Jasmine (Linda Larkin), you can easily get lost in Williams's improvisational energy and the equally entertaining performances of Freeman and Gilbert Gottfried (as Jafar's parrot). IN A NUTSHELL: A WHOLE NEW WORLD & IT INCLUDES ROBIN WILLIAMS AS THE GENIE
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Disney Fun For The Whole Family. Great Story, Wonderful Voice Cast And Classic Songs Make This A Diamond In The Rough.
Walt Disney Pictures struck gold yet again (as they've done since 1937, when Walt Disney released the comnpany's first animated feature film "Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs") with another delightful animated family film, a classic alongside "Beauty And The Beast," "The Lion King," "Toy Story" and many other Disney favorites. The story is timeless, like "Beauty And The Beast" and "The Lion King" so I won't summarize it. "Come on down, stop on by. Hop a Carpet And Fly To Another Arabian Night." Be prepared to discover "A Diamond In The Rough." The special features (beginning on Disc 1 and continued on Disc 2), along with the movie, are "A treasure-trove of riches" destined to please everyone. The voice cast includes Linda Larkin, Scott W., Jonathan Freeman, Gilbert Gottfried and Robin Williams. I love this movie. Rated G.

4-0 out of 5 stars the trend lives on
by 1992 and aladdin's release disney was riding high with such hits as "the little mermaid" and "beauty and the beast." disney carried on it's trend with this fun filled adventure.aladdin was truely a great additiion to the disney cannon because of strenght and subtleties.

Charlie Brown gets rocks in his trick-or-treat bag, Linus awaits a visitation from the Great Pumpkin in his terribly sincere pumpkin patch (while the adoring little Sally sits tight with him), Snoopy falls asleep, Lucy harasses Schroeder, and Pig-Pen kicks up a dust storm even beneath his costume in this classic television broadcast. Funny stuff, but also graced with Charles Schultz's more poignant and gently satiric themes from the 1960s on the influence of faith, failure, and hope in our lives. Read more

For the most part you already know the story from reading the rest of the reviews and summaries.
1-0 out of 5 stars For fans of Miyazaki, NOT for fans of the book
I was very excited about this film as a fan of both the book and Ghibli Studios previous works. All the greater the disappointment then, when less than half way through the story becomes something utterly unrecognizable from the original and several characters lose all their complex charm. What a shame.

2-0 out of 5 stars Hard to get into.
I love Jane Austen's works, and Persuasion, for me, comes next in line after Pride and Prejudice.I think the story is more gentle and you really see a transformation in Anne. The movie, however, I just didn't like. The characters weren't portrayed well and I thought the movie was boring.Anne in the movie had pretty much the same look on her face the whole movie which drove me nuts. The guy who played Capt. Wentworth i thought was too angry most of the time.I really couldn't enjoy this film because I couldn't get over the bad acting.I'd love to see Persuasion redone with hopefully a better result. My advice: read the book and skip the movie.

1-0 out of 5 stars Nice idea, wooden acting

4-0 out of 5 stars A beautifully subtle and genuinely emotional film
This is clearly one of the most polarising of Jane Austen adaptations on film. Some viewers will love the genuinely moving acting, the authentically costumed characters, the beautiful scenery and sets, the incredible story-telling and the wonderfully subtle touches that abound in this film. Others will loathe the complete absence of makeup, the fact that Amanda Root is visibly older than 29, the slow and tender story, the use of natural lighting and the re-writing of the Mr Elliot sub-plot (including his unforgivably and casually cruel behaviour towards Mrs Smith).

I truly beleve the disney verion is better than the fox verion.
5-0 out of 5 stars Enchanment for any age.
How wonderful it is to be able to experience what is surely a cherished family classic for a generation of people from another country. This version of "My Neighbor Totoro" features excellent video quality as well as a very well done English audio track for those who wish to avoid reading subtitles.
1-0 out of 5 stars New Voice and Sound Tracks!
I was very displeased with the newest version of Totoro. With Dakota and Elle Fannings voices, as well as all the other new voices, made the movie sound horrible and very unlike the original version of Totoro! The newest version could never be compared to the original version! The original version of Totoro should have never been fixed and it will ALWAYS be better than the newest version! I couldn't even get through the first disc, without hearing the new annoying voice sound tracts! VERY DISSAPOINTING! What a waste of money... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars What are you talking about?I went to Smith!
So says Kristin Davis, as Charlotte, when confronted with the idea of performing a particular sex act. This hilarious and clever series has many clever lines and funny moments that pass in the blink of an eye. I can't believe it has taken me this long to finally watch the show that everyone has been talking about for eight years.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sex and the City - Complete First Season
Excellent- I expected it to be great, but it was even better than expected, I received it must faster than I anticipated. The show is just great. I have seen the shows I missed andI am looking forward to completing the entire series of the show.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous
Sex And The City is one of the comedies for the '90's, a slick, classy affair that's not afraid to push the boundaries to the limit. It's graphic (sort of) depiction of sex is ground-breaking, yet it doesn't forget it's main reason for being out there, to be funny.Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon are exemplary as Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda. The supporting players (Chris Noth, etc.) are helpful and the plotlines are racy and hilarious.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just about perfect in all respects...
Race and crime are the topics of this adaptation of Harper Lee's mega-selling novel. Set in the pre-World War II south, filmed in black and white, starring two child actors who were totally unknown and the wonderful Gregory Peck, the movie is really a tale of a single dad small-town lawyer raising a boy and a girl to do the right things and think the right thoughts. Famous for many things, the movie features a child character based on Truman Capote, and a mysterious neighbor played by Robert Duvall in his film debut. The music and cinematography are both superb. Everyone over the age of 12 should see this film at least once.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Cinematic Masterwork About Human Fallibility in a World of Wearying Intolerance
Having just read Charles Shields' biography of Harper Lee, "Mockingbird", and re-read her classic (and only) novel for at least the third time, I was able recently to watch Robert Mulligan's 1962 classic film adaptation with fresh eyes, and the 2005 Legacy Series Edition DVD fortunately contains a pristine print transfer and a bundle of extras that make repeated viewings more than worthwhile. Rarely has a film so accurately captured the emotional consequences of human fallibility steadfastly within the grip of racial intolerance. Set in the Deep South of Lee's childhood in the fictional town of Maycomb in 1932, the story, adapted by writer Horton Foote, focuses on six-year old Scout, the tomboy, motherless daughter of lawyer Atticus Finch.
5-0 out of 5 stars Review of DVD To Kill a Mockingbird
The Legacy Series Edition of To Kill a Mockingbird is an excellent DVD set.In addition to the classic movie (which we never tire of), the special features are very interesting, including interviews with "Scout" (Mary Badham), and "Atticus Finch".It is easy to understand why Gregory Peck is so revered and respected as an actor.

2-0 out of 5 stars hey, did any of you dudes catch that they ripped off the plot from clueless?
this is the poorest of the plethora of jane austen adaptations we have undergone the past decade, with gwyneth paltrow stumbling her way through an unfunny retelling of austens classic.fortunately its been 3 weeks since i watched this and ive managed to put the details of WHY i found it distasteful into the nether regions of my mind, but it was a mess.
    1-0 out of 5 stars Clueless .....
Who ripped off who? Emma or Clueless? The entire time I'm watching this movie I'm wondering when Alicia Silverstone is going to pop up.I keep thinking "there's got to be something different coming up" but no... it was pretty much the same exact plotline.I love Gwyneth - but I was not impressed with Emma.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bored to tears.
I hate to give Emma one star because I think Paltrow's performance is flawless and love that british accent she piles on but Emma was so boring, pretentious and completely dowdy as can be. I guess the language just threw me for a loop, too wordy, bland and pointless to me. It's a shame because I thought Emma was going to be a great film, damn those critics! Sorry Gwyneth, you are a great and talented actress but there is nothing to swoon over this drab film. I recommend some other Paltrow films instead: Shallow Hall, Sylvia, Proof and Sliding Doors (welcome back british accent!) Emma will have you drowsy after the first thirty minutes, yawn!!!!!!!!!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Magical
A beautifully realized excursion into a magical world. My attention never wavered as I was struck by one completely unfamiliar concept or scene after another. Often fantasy works leave me a bit cold with the Shakespearean posturing and ambiguous dangers that any variety of spells can be used to bail out of but, this matter-of-fact tale of wonder needs no pretensions and achieves majesty quite easily.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mysterious, full of spirits
This is my third experience with Ghibli studios and I am not disappointed. I am actually starting to develope a taste for their animation. The drawing and coloring was again as great as I expected. The movie starts in a very mysterious setting leaving you a little scared what would come next. As movie passes on you start to see new kinds of spirits. Not many of them are bad, they are just seeking a resting place away from materialistic world. The movie is in general not meant to be about scary ghosts or vengeful spirits. It is actually about coexistence of men and spirits and how they try to reach a balance. In cases spirits help men or vice versa. Myazaki explains in the special features how this animation is based on his real life experience and it seems that he actually modeled the little girl after a friends daughter whom he knew.
5-0 out of 5 stars A perfect film

5-0 out of 5 stars another amazing anime
This seems to be Miyazake's most personal work, clearly a serious design. It is set in an imaginary time which blends the time of the ancient gods (Shinto style, gods of place and nature) with the settlement of humans and the coming of metalworking and war. The world is not in balance, and a distant conflict between industry and nature has wounded one of the gods of the forest, which is then killed by a sentry boy as it rampages into farmland he guards. The evil controlling it transfers to him, beginning a slow takeover, and he must journey to the origin of the conflict to find a way to cure himself and incidentally, as he will learn, to try to restore balance. But this is not a simplistic tale, he finds there are other characters in play, and there is good and evil in everyone, and no easy balance. The Princess (Hime) of the story is a mysterious human who has been raised by wolves (which are themselves powerful forest gods, a little reminiscent of the Amerindian Coyote myth), who becomes both his ally and his enemy. The story is not easy to understand. It has many Japanese mythic elements but even then, it is a work of Miyazake's unique imagination, and is not intended to be simple or to have a clean resolution.
5-0 out of 5 stars Princess Mononoke

Wildly romantic, daringly exciting, Michael Mann's film of James Fenimore Cooper's novel created a new babe magnet out of Daniel Day-Lewis, he of the heaving pecs and flowing mane. As Hawkeye, he plays an American settler raised by the Mohicans who is forced to serve as a guide for British adventurism in upstate New York. But the British have been outflanked by the French (and their Indian allies); then British honor is betrayed when a band of renegades assaults them during their retreat. Mann captures the viciousness of this era's hand-to-hand combat in startling battle scenes. But he also invests the film with heartfelt romance, as the feelings swell between Day-Lewis and Madeleine Stowe. The ending is a stunner, a long, nearly wordless sequence of battle and loss. Strong performances all around, particularly by Russell Means as Chingachgook and Wes Studi as the evil Magua. Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars it just sits there like a bumppo on the log
a major disappointment for me, because i like daniel day-lewis and thought he was a fascinating pick to play hawkeye. then i realized it was directed by hack michael mann. one of the inherent flaws in the leatherstocking tales (aside from purple prose) is that they are remarkably non-suspenseful for adventure tales; this might be why cooper has never really lent himself to dramatization. but in the hands of a sharp director, it CAN be made to work ( the disparaged randolph scott movie is fun).

1-0 out of 5 stars Typical Hollywood
Ok....by now anyone reading this review has read other reviews and is intimately familiar with the general plot of this film. That having been said, I will add my comments not so much with regards to the plot, but on the overall nature of what remains a stereotypical Hollywood feature.
5-0 out of 5 stars The real review
I do not know what the other viewers are talking about. I was very skeptical about te DVD until i got it on netflix and watched it. Its like LOTR, some added scenes and dialouge to enhance the film, but making it a little longer. There were no random scenes that looked out of place, there was more backstory and action which i enjoyed. I did like the monolouge at the end done by the father *i dont want to spell his name wrong* buy this DVD its good i promise... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A classic reborn.
I first saw Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind when it was shown on cable TV in the late 80s.I remember being amazed at the artwork, the design of the aircraft, the way the insects and the jungle were brought to life.I had seen Star Blazers and was watching Robotech but this movie was on a whole different level. Now the masterpiece is back.
4-0 out of 5 stars A fair start for Miyazaki...
This film was hard to rate.
5-0 out of 5 stars Anime of the Wind
I don't know anime, but I know what I like. I've always said it, and probably will always say it. "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind", a 1984 film by Hayao Miyazaki, is a film I like a lot. It's unique, it's got atmosphere, and it's got a great message, I thought.

4-0 out of 5 stars Possible product packaging issue
I purchased the boxed set in mid-August 2006 and unfortunately, due to a defective disk, returned it immediately.I say unfortunately because the set was immaculate otherwise.Amazon's replacement service kindly sent a replacement set the day I was sending the original back--gotta love that; thanks Amazon!HOWEVER, the replacement was not packaged completely. My replacement set did not include individual cardboard envelopes for the three plastic hard cases.(The holder which holds the three hard cases together was there; but each hard case is further protected by a cardboard envelope, which helps keep them from rubbing against each other in the holder. This is important; because each hard case has chrome-like lettering which could rub off over time without the added protection. This is apparently a QC issue wherever the sets are assembled--I do not think Amazon was to blame). So, regrettably, I returned this set as well.Just be aware you may receive a set which doesn't contain individual cardboard envelopes for each plastic hard case.If you can live with that, it's no big deal and you will love this set--I'm just picky!Star Trek rules! And thanks again, Amazon, for your superb customer service!

1-0 out of 5 stars RIP OFF!!!
How long is Paramount going to milk the Star Trek name? There is NO WAY I'm going to cough up $175 for a DVD set of three seasons of ANY show.
5-0 out of 5 stars Huge price drop just in time
They are going to be re-releasing the original series with added computer generated graphics and effects. When I found this out I went to Amazon to check used copies of the original series so I would have a collection of the origial series without the added CGI.The whole series used to cost upwards to $400 at some retailers, and I was able to pick it up just now brand new off Amazon for ~$175, which is still steep for a non-fan, but is a great deal if like me you want to have a collection of the original series, especially before they add the CGI. ... I really enjoy most of Miyazaki's work; especially "Spirited Away" and "My Neighbor Totoro".I had very high expectations of this, given it's popularity. For whatever reason, it didn't do it for me.

From the moment that Prince Eric's ship emerged from the fog in the opening credits it was apparent that Disney had somehow, suddenly recaptured that "magic" that had been dormant for thirty years. In the tale of a headstrong young mermaid who yearns to "spend a day, warm on the sand," Ariel trades her voice to Ursula, the Sea Witch (classically voiced by Pat Carroll), for a pair of legs. Ariel can only succeed if she receives true love's kiss in a few day's time and she needs all the help she can from a singing crab named Sebastian, a loudmouth seagull, and a flounder. The lyrics and music by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken are top form: witty and relevant, and they advance the story (go on, hum a few bars of "Under the Sea"). Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good film...GREAT 2nd DISC FEATURES!!
First... let's just say that somebody needs to tell Ashley Tisdale to lose the boots. They're only gonna be even more embarrasing in 20 years than they are today. Where are Joan and Melissa when we need them!? "Kiss the Girl"? ... pass.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of Disney's Finest Achievements!
In a wonderful kingdom under the sea lives the beautiful mermaid princess, Ariel, seventh and youngest daughter of King Triton, ruler of Atlantica. Ariel's feisty spirit and gorgeous red hair make her a bit of a favorite among Triton's daughters, and her passion for learning human ways and collecting of their artifacts causes much stress to her family and friends. After spying a handsome, young, human prince aboard a ship one evening and saving his life, Ariel is instantly love-struck, and this is completely unacceptable to her overbearing, human-hating father. In a desperate and rebellious action, Ariel turns to a seductive sea witch for help, who takes possession of Ariel's beautiful voice in exchange for a magical spell. The spell changes Ariel's fish-like tail into a lovely pair of human legs, but there is a condition attached. If Ariel can't get the young prince to fall in love with her in three days and seal it with a kiss, the spell will be broken and Ariel will join the witch Ursula's collection of hideously transformed victims. Luckily, the prince is in love with her already, though he doesn't know it. Prince Eric is obsessed with finding the young lady who saved him from drowning that night and whom he caught a glimpse of as she sang to him just before disappearing. When he takes in the now human Ariel after she appears seemingly washed up from a shipwreck, her inability to speak makes him sure she is not the one. Voiceless and only left with her beauty and exuberant charm, Ariel and her animal friends must try their best to make the prince see that she is the lost love he has been searching for, but the Sea Witch will do all she can to stop them before time runs out! If Ursula holds power over Princess Ariel, the king himself will have to bow down before her!
5-0 out of 5 stars DEEP SEA IN FUN. MAKE A SPLASH WITH THIS MERMAID!
Finally, the long-anticipated eighth addition to Disney's Platinum Collection is here making quite the splash---the bonus tracks in this disc-disc edition include a brand-new making-of feautrette, never-before-deleted scenes, a backstage peek into the world of Imagineering, music videos, special effect demos, and song demos. We often wondered how Ursula ended up a sea witch (some others calling the multi-tentacled terror an "octopus"); one of our favorite deleted scenes reveals Ursula's real identity . . . unless you've been basking in a seaweed wrap all these years, Ursula is voiced by the Cape's own Pat Carroll. Getting it done has never sounded so true. And terrifying.

2-0 out of 5 stars Total Melodrama in the Worst Sense
I can't believe how many people love this movie and its predecessor, "Love Affair."To me they are nothing but unbelieveable melodramas in which one wishes she could pull the characters off the screen and give them each a few dummy slaps.

This is an all time classic love story! This has yet again one of my favorite actors, Cary Grant. This is also a great movie for the entire family to watch and enjoy! This movie takes to from laughing to ahhh, to a river of tears! I think that this movie was given life again when a clip was shown in Sleepless in Seattle. At the end when Cary Grant pays Deborah Kerr a visit, you are sobbing and crying because you know her secret!

One of the finest American musicals, this 1944 film by Vincente Minnelli is an intentionally self-contained story set in 1903, in which a happy St. Louis family is shaken to their roots by the prospect of moving to New York, where the father has a better job pending. Judy Garland heads the cast in what amounts to a splendid, end-of-an-era story that nicely rhymes with the onset of the 20th century. The film is extraordinarily alive, the characters strong, and the musical numbers are so splendidly part of the storytelling that you don't feel the film has stopped for an interlude. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Judy Garland's Best Film Ever!
I first saw this movie when I was seven years old and it has been one of my all-time favorites ever since. The cinematography is gorgeous. The technicolor brings out the lush set designs and costumes. This is one those movies that you should watch if you're feeling sick or depressed. It never fails to make me feel better! The catchy tunes are beautifully sung by the talented Judy Garland. Among them are "The Boy Next Door" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas". The uncomplicated problems of the Smith family are a great escape from the complex lives that modern people lead.

5-0 out of 5 stars MEET ME IN ST.LOUIS!!!! A Charming Look Back At The Good Old Days
This has quickly become one of my favorite musicals. With breathtaking sets and Minnelli's beautiful eye for detail this movie has a powerful impact and is simply breathtaking. Often forgotten and overlooked by Broadway this movie is powerful with it's music and it's all-star cast. Judy Garland gives a performance that rivals her "Wizard Of Oz" one and in my opinon deserved an Oscar for her job as Esther.

5-0 out of 5 stars Romantic comedy at its best!
This charming and enjoyable movie with Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant is a must see.Julia, with her trademark charm and smile, is adorable in this film and Hugh Grant as the ackward but handsome bachelor, fall in love in Notting Hill. But before they do, a lot of amusing things happen to them. The cast is wonderful and absolutely funny. Not since "Four Weddings and a Funeral" have I seen such a great assemble cast and team.I wish Hugh Grant would make more movies like this again. In short, I highly recommend it to those who enjoy romantic comedies.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quirky and cute but it works....
What happens when a Beverly Hills movie star walks into the quiet life of a Notting Hill bookseller? Sparks fly and it's one of those romantic comedies whereby you want to see them get passed the masks that are standing in the way. Vintage Roberts and Grant... and a surprise sweet British movie on the crazy ways people fall in and out and in and out of love.

Another Disney classic just like Pocahondas, Shrek, Snow white, Alandin and Lion King. These are cartoon figures and films that are never forgoten.

2-0 out of 5 stars The legend reworked...
To be fair, the legends of Herakles, as they were originally written, have little to do with this movie, but maybe that's for the best.Having grown up on Superman, Batman and the Justice League, I have a hard time calling a person like Herakles a hero.In the original legends, he was a warrior, but also a brute who eventually wound up killing his wife and children in a fit of rage.He also wasn't, as far as I can tell, as strong as in this version.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good Fun - the Kids and I Liked It
This is a great show and very entertaining. The story isn't the Greek classic, but it's a fine riff on it.The songs are good, and they grow on you as you watch.I take issue with the reviewer who thought there was gratuitous sexuality in the Meg character - it's just a cartoon, for pete's sake.

5-0 out of 5 stars No one's been able to live in it. It doesn't want people
One of the supposed reasons why ghosts remain in this world is that they were murdered, and want the world to know who did it.
4-0 out of 5 stars VERY GOOD GHOST MYSTERY!
"The Changeling" has become a little bit dated, however, it is still a very good ghost story. The film stars (George C. Scott) as John Russell, a composer who has lost his family in a tragic accident. He rents a large estate in order to compose his music. It is here that he encounters the ghost of a young boy. Why is the boy haunting the estate? Why is he making contact with John Russell? As the film moves forward, John Russell contacts a medium and eventually begins to investigate the mansion.
4-0 out of 5 stars Solid ghost tale
"The Changeling" is more mystery than horror film, which is not what I had expected prior to viewing. Nonetheless, this is a good film and I would recommend it. George C. Scott plays John Russell, a classical music composer who loses his wife and daughter in an accident. In an effort to forget this tragedy, he leaves New York City for Seattle. Desiring seclusion in order to practice his compositions, he moves alone into a large, vacant house. It is here that someone, or some thing, begins to contact him. Russell, perhaps realizing he has nothing left to lose, attempts to determine the reason for this. To reveal what or who the Changeling is would be to reveal too much about the movie, so I won't do that here. Unlike some other haunted house films, the ending to this one is moderately satisfactory. The story is told with class, as one would hope for a movie with a classical music composer as it central character. There are no cheap scares, exploitive material such as nudity or gore, and scarcely any bad language. In fact, I'm not really certain why it was rated R and most definitely a re-rating would earn this a PG-13 today. The acting, score and direction are all first rate. I didn't find the movie very scary; however, the suspenseful moments were done well and were fairly effective. The DVD has no extras, though the picture and sound are good. This is worth at least one watch and the price is certainly right. ... Read more
