    Editorial Review

No film better utilizes Audrey Hepburn's flighty charm and svelte beauty than this romantic adaptation of Truman Capote's novella. Hepburn's urban sophisticate Holly Golightly, an enchanting neurotic living off the gifts of gentlemen, is a bewitching figure in designer dresses and costume jewelry. George Peppard is her upstairs neighbor, a struggling writer and "kept" man financed by a steely older woman (Patricia Neal). His growing friendship with the lonely Holly soon turns to love and threatens the delicate balance of both of their compromised lives. Taking liberties with Capote's bittersweet story, director Blake Edwards and screenwriter George Axelrod turn New York into a city of lovers and create a poignant portrait of Holly, a frustrated romantic with a secret past and a hidden vulnerability. Composer Henry Mancini earned Oscars for the hit song "Moon River" and his tastefully romantic score. The only sour note in the whole film is Mickey Rooney's demeaning performance as the apartment's Japanese manager, an offensively overdone stereotype even in 1961. The rest of the film has weathered the decades well. Edwards's elegant yet light touch, Axelrod's generous screenplay, and Hepburn's mix of knowing experience and naiveté combine to create one of the great screen romances and a refined slice of high society bohemian chic. 5-0 out of 5 stars As Charming as A Classic Can get!
Breakfast at Tiffany's... If you haven't seen it, then you must have heard of it in some way. You have heard the title somewhere, you read about it at someplace or maybe you have heard the famous musical theme by Henry Mancini? Yes, it's hard not to have heard of this classic masterpiece in some sort of way.
5-0 out of 5 stars delicious
Blake Edward's masterpiece isbright, funny, intelligent, and thoroughly winning, thanks to his deft direction and the singular presence of its stars.Stunningly gowned by Givenchy, Audrey Hepburn makes the part of Holly Golightly completely her own, and is so captivating, one couldn't care less how greatly the film differs from Truman Capote's much darker novella.George Peppard is her praiseworthy partner in his most memorable role.To better complement his spirited co-star, he plays Paul Varjak quietly, radiating a natural humor, pride, warmth, and grace. With astonishing blue eyes, perfect hair, cardigans, tweed jackets, and penny loafers, Paul is achingly handsome and infinitely desirable.
5-0 out of 5 stars An amazingly beautiful, sad film
The sight of Audrey Hepburn, dressed immaculately in a black dress, wearing large black goggles, holding a danish pastry in one of her hands and a coffee in the other, looking wishfully, enchantedly into the window of Tiffany, joins forces with the extremely beautiful yet melancholy background score by Henri Mancini to set the tone of the movie. Quirky, witty, modern, fashionable, yet flowing over an undercurrent of unexplainable sadness.

4-0 out of 5 stars Getting Started.
I don't have HBO.In fact, I don't even have cable. However, I have friends who do and when some of them were talking about the latest season of the HBO show, ENTOURAGE, I had no idea what they were talking about or what the hype was about. Then this past summer I was staying at a hotel and was flipping through the channels and came across an episode of ENTOURAGE (Season 3) that had just started.Actually, I didn't even know it was ENTOURAGE until after the show ended. But, I had been intrigued by the opening scene and sat fascinated for over twenty minutes. The writing was superb and I found myself compelled by the characters on the screen and wanted to see what would happen to them next.I had become hooked and a fan just through that one episode.
2-0 out of 5 stars At times laughable, overall uneventful
Fairly well shot and sprinkled with comedic wit, this show is rather lacking in the areas of storyline and character development.Three friends riding the wave of partying and excitment formed by their up-and-coming actor friend destined to be the 'next big thing'.The premise was ok, but unfortunately nothing ever really seems to happen in these shows. The plot moves slowly, if at all, and when an opportunity arrives for the writers to create some real tension or excitment, they side-step it.It appears that the real premise for each episode is to dangle nice cars, attractive women, and countless cameos in front of the viewer so that he/she fills with desire for such a lucrative lifestyle.I'm all for that, but try to write a script in the process.

1-0 out of 5 stars Emptiness + vacuum = totally boring
I gave this show a try. I was fidgeting with boredom after the first 20 minutes of the pilot. I "browsed" through the 2nd episode and gave up. Detestable characters, average acting, showbiz "cool" moronity... On the whole, a major disappointment. HBO has made so many other enjoyable series. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Possible product packaging issue
I purchased the boxed set in mid-August 2006 and unfortunately, due to a defective disk, returned it immediately.I say unfortunately because the set was immaculate otherwise.Amazon's replacement service kindly sent a replacement set the day I was sending the original back--gotta love that; thanks Amazon!HOWEVER, the replacement was not packaged completely. My replacement set did not include individual cardboard envelopes for the three plastic hard cases.(The holder which holds the three hard cases together was there; but each hard case is further protected by a cardboard envelope, which helps keep them from rubbing against each other in the holder. This is important; because each hard case has chrome-like lettering which could rub off over time without the added protection. This is apparently a QC issue wherever the sets are assembled--I do not think Amazon was to blame). So, regrettably, I returned this set as well.Just be aware you may receive a set which doesn't contain individual cardboard envelopes for each plastic hard case.If you can live with that, it's no big deal and you will love this set--I'm just picky!Star Trek rules! And thanks again, Amazon, for your superb customer service!

1-0 out of 5 stars RIP OFF!!!
How long is Paramount going to milk the Star Trek name? There is NO WAY I'm going to cough up $175 for a DVD set of three seasons of ANY show.
5-0 out of 5 stars Huge price drop just in time
They are going to be re-releasing the original series with added computer generated graphics and effects. When I found this out I went to Amazon to check used copies of the original series so I would have a collection of the origial series without the added CGI.The whole series used to cost upwards to $400 at some retailers, and I was able to pick it up just now brand new off Amazon for ~$175, which is still steep for a non-fan, but is a great deal if like me you want to have a collection of the original series, especially before they add the CGI. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Corny, predictable, contrived, and deceptive (in portraying New York.) I love it!
First, let me say that by quality film standards this is a terrible movie, in many respects. I live to walk on videos of this type with football cleats. But, this movie falls into the "I hated this movie so much, I couldn't help but watch it whenever it was on" category. And now I love it. I don't know what it is about this movie. I tried to put my finger on it many times. I always have and always will hate "Sleepless in Seattle," which is a totally contrived load of crap. But "You've Got Mail" has an undefinable charm to it that forces you to look past it's simplified portrayal of a happy go lucky, skip around the neighborhoods of New York atmosphere. It makes you question why you buy into such sappy dialogue and situations. It's not just because of the Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks chemistry, because I hated the despicable "Sleepless in Seattle" and always thought the entire premis of "Joe Versus the Volcanoe" was a joke. But in this movie, contrived as it may be, that interplay between the two works. Though their acting is also hammy at best, I also love the contributions of Greg Kinnear, Parker Posey, Stephen Zahn and Jean Stapleton. This is one of my guiltiest pleasures. I'll only watch it with the remote on toggle to some type of sports programming in case my friends walk in on me while I'm watching it so I can jump inmmediately to the "Binford Lumberjack Finals," or something like that. But were they to walk in at the end of this movie and find me glossy eyed with a lump in my throat, I'd never hear the end of it. I love this movie. There! I admit it.!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful
I absolutely love this movie. Hanks and Ryan have so much chemistry together and the story is so adorable. I have watched this movie so many times and love it more every time!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great tale.

2-0 out of 5 stars Scarlett
Margarett Mitchell must be rolling in her grave. She wrote a masterpiece in the 1930's, then Alexandra Ripley bought the rights to her book by conning Margaret Mitchell's heirs to sell out the legacy of their relative.Alexandra Ripley's novel was an embarrasing pile of mush, even worse than a Barbara Courtland romance novel.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cool series
An epic sci-fi phenomenon began in 1966 when the first season of "Star Trek" began to broadcast on U.S. televisions. Created by the legendary writer Gene Roddenberry (1921-1991), the series was intended to run for five years detailing the missions of the mammoth starship known as the U.S.S. Enterprise, which was only one of several starships that were part of the United Federation of Planets' Starfleet. Unfortunately, the series was prematurely cancelled after only three complete seasons in spite of efforts of Gene Roddenberry, letter-writing campaigns conducted by fans to keep the show alive and 5 Emmy Award nominations. Ironically, it was only six weeks after the final third-season episode was broadcast (6/3/1969) that astronauts Neil Armstrong and 'Buzz' Aldrin became the first human beings to ever set foot on an extraterrestrial world, Earth's moon, on 7/20/1969. Then, instead of being forgotten after cancellation, in syndication, "Star Trek" began to rise in popularity in the early 1970's to such an extent that Paramount Pictures began toying with the idea of resurrecting the show. Instead, following the extremely successful 1977 sci-fi blockbuster film "Star Wars" (written and directed by George Lucas), Paramount Pictures did resurrect the show in the form of several big-screen films beginning in 1979. With a new generation being introduced to the fantastic universe created by Gene Roddenberry, more "Star Trek" television series were created. In total, there have been six "Star Trek" television series (5 live-action, 1 animated) and ten big-screen films; but all of them owe their thanks not only to Gene Roddenberry, but to the original "Star Trek" series cast and the many fans that kept the original show in syndication long after it was cancelled.

3-0 out of 5 stars Kirk out!!
When I was a kid, wearing my mail-order "Captain Kirk" command shirt of gold vellour, the words "Third Season Trek" were synonymous with "bad." To compare something with the Third Season meant invoking images of failure, disaster, and sudden, irrevocable decline. Some of the individual episodes of this season also became buzzwords for something that, for lack of a better description, just plain sucked. "Space hippies!"; "What have you done with Spock's brain!?"; "You half-black!"

For those of us who like to laugh, cry, and feel warm. A great mix of comedy and hopeful romance. Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks capture the screen and cast a warm glow. If you enjoy this movie, which I'm possitive you will, then check out...French Kiss, Joe vs. the Volcano, When Harry Met Sally, and You've Got Mail. All cast the same spell and transform your mood. They're definetly "pick-me-up" movies for anyone who's feeling down, lonely, or needs a laugh.

Some called it a snooze-fest, while others tearfully clutched their Kleenex. In any case, Clint Eastwood was an unusual and (as it turned out) perceptive choice to direct and costar in this lush adaptation of Robert James Waller's phenomenally bestselling novel. Meryl Streep costars as Francesca, the lonely Iowa farmer's wife who is instantly attracted to Robert (Eastwood), the photographer from Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Bridges of Madison County DVD
The DVD was okay and I needed it for a gift (which I was late for - my fault).I received it in 5 days but it arrived totally smashed. It was packed in a stiff yellow envelope but needed more packing. The outside of the package was marred but not ripped open. But when I opened it I was horrified that the entire case was crushed. I delicately took it apart and it seemed that the DVD was untouched so I put it in another generic case that I had around the house. That was disappointing because the case it came in was very attractive and I couldn't fit it in my case.Because I was late with my gift, I didn't have time to send it back to you.The price was right, the service was quick, just bulk up on your shipping a little.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Sublime Italianate Streep Towers Over a Snail's-Paced Romantic Tearjerker
If you want to see an actress make something out of nothing, then see Meryl Streep in this lumbering romance novel of a movie. Based on the ridiculous Robert James Waller bestseller (a book I truly loathed), the 1995 film retains a lot of the novel's unbearable treacle and heaving sentimentality. At the same time, screenwriter Richard LaGravenese's adaptation improves the story immeasurably by shifting more of the focus to Francesca Johnson, an Italian post-WWII bride who has become over the years, a lonely, middle-aged Iowa farmwife circa 1965. Her husband and two children leave for four days to the Illinois State Fair, and by chance, renowned photographer Robert Kincaid accidentally drops by the Johnson farm for directions to the famous Roseman Bridge, one of several covered bridges around Winterset, Iowa. Francesca is fascinated, then smitten, and the two embark on a brief but life-altering love affair.
5-0 out of 5 stars A mature, intelligent love story....
This is why I love this film. It's mature, intelligent, thoughtful, real, and in the end, sad and heartbreaking, but not despairing. Some have expressed surprise that Eastwood directed this film so well, but I'm not.Eastwood is a great handler of actors and has always displayed great sensitivity to them.He never makes an actor read for a role, and he never says "action", because it makes actors nervous.Despite a little too much sentimentality at the end, this film holds up very well, and is entirely believable.Streep and Eastwood give phenomenal performances here, and you really believe that they are 2 souls that need each other. The line "certainty like this comes along once in a lifetime" really haunts the film.Rarely do you fall in love at first sight. You may become infatuated at first sight, but love is a much deeper feeling.Even though Streep and Eastwood's characters know each other for only 4 days, the rapport they have here is geniune and very honest. It's a story for adults, and considering it was made in 1995 (when idiotic teen comedies were everywhere polluting the multiplexes), it's even more of a treasure.Hollywood should do more adult romances, and not silly, vapid "chick flicks".I don't like chick flicks, I prefer my romances to be more grounded in reality and intelligence, and this film is one of them.... ... A surprise hit in America, this 1994 Australian comedy is anchored by Terence Stamp as a transsexual who, in the company of two drag queens, travels to a remote desert location to put on a lip- synch performance--to the amazement of the locals. Getting there on a pink bus named Priscilla, the trio stop and play for people all over the Outback, getting the same homophobic, bewildered responses. The weak link in the film is dialogue that seems to have been pulled from "Queer Movie Banter for Dummies," all bitchy and cliché-ridden but fortunately salvaged by strong acting. The most fun comes whenever the three are performing; fans of Abba will be particularly pleased. 1-0 out of 5 stars gay film at its worst
Overrated; slapstick; stupid. This movie gives "gay" a black eye. Don't waste your time. If you want to watch men dress like women and act like female dogs, then you will probably really love this movie. Honestly, you have better things to do with your time...and there are much better gay movies out there.Try Maurice or Brokeback Mountain.

This has become something of an alternative classic along the lines of Strictly Ballroom, though I prefer this. I don't know who I enjoyed more, Guy Pierce (L.A. Confidential, Memento) as the gorgeous, bitchy and naughty drag queen, Hugo Weaving, who's a fairly unknown actor in this hemisphere - though most of us know him as the Bad Guy in the Matrix (and the many Bad Guys in the sequel). In Priscilla, he playsa transvestite feeling abiguous about his own identity. And then there's Terence Stamp, whose ruggedly handsome face somehow is not ridiculous at all portraying a dignified pre-operative trans-sexual.Definitely recommend it. It's a feel-good movie. ... Read more

"The Great Race" is one of my absolute favorites.I've watched this movie probably a hundred times and it never fails to make me laugh. How can you not enjoy a Blake Edwards film with a cast including Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon, Peter Falk, Natalie Wood, Larry Storch and Denver Pyle?
3-0 out of 5 stars Great Ingredients - but it drags :-(
It should have had some skillful editing to spruce it up.The pie throwing scene, for example, could have had 1/3 to 1/2 the footage deleted and it wouldn't have suffered a bit. Many of the slapstick comedy bits are somewhat overdone and tend to spoil the effect.By the time one encounters the intermission, they may be ready to fall asleep (if they are still awake, that is :-) ... Editorial Review

Though this film is a relatively minor one in the massive canon of Peter Sellers, it has moments of absolute hilarity. Written and directed by Blake Edwards, one of Sellers's most fertile collaborators, the film stars Sellers as a would-be actor from India (let them try to get away with that today) who is a walking disaster area. After ruining a day's shooting as an extra on a film, he finds himself unintentionally invited to a big Hollywood party. That's pretty much it as far as plot goes, but Edwards and Sellers know how to milk a simple idea for an unending string of slapstick gags. The result is a film that is episodic and sketchy, but also frequently loony in an inspired way. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Classic Sellers
Peter Sellers is at his best here.No one could play a funnier Hindu than him!I doubt any native East Indian could do it better. He has all the mannerisms and accents down perfectly! This is movie that could never be made today with all the hyper-sensitivity around.Perhaps this is why we don't have any great comedians anymore. This is because none feel they can take risks like this.Humor has lost its edge.Another reviewer got it right when they said this film is homage to old silent movies. It certainly is.If it were not for Seller's humor this would be just another dated 60s movie.Seller's makes it amusing and fun to watch. The body language is great. His Hinduisms will make you crack up every time.He has the line down perfectly.Only a Brit could satire members of a former colony like this and be able to get away with it!Watch for the humor and spectacle of it all.

    Editorial Review

Winner of four Academy Awards, including best picture, director, supporting actor, and best editing, Clint Eastwood's 1992 masterpiece stands as one of the greatest and most thematically compelling Westerns ever made."The movie summarized everything I feel about the Western," said Eastwood at the time of the film's release. "The moral is the concern with gunplay." To illustrate that theme, Eastwood stars as a retired, once-ruthless killer-turned-gentle-widower and hog farmer. He accepts one last bounty-hunter mission--to find the men who brutalized a prostitute--to help support his two motherless children. Joined by his former partner (Morgan Freeman) and a cocky greenhorn (Jaimz Woolvett), he takes on a corrupt sheriff (Oscar winner Gene Hackman) in a showdown that makes the viewer feel the full impact of violence and its corruption of the soul. Dedicated to Eastwood's mentors Sergio Leone and Don Siegel and featuring a colorful role for Richard Harris, it's arguably Eastwood's crowning directorial achievement. The digital video disc offers standard and widescreen formats and a remastered soundtrack. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't talk about queens on the 4th of July, please.
Hailed as Clint Eastwood's "masterpiece" up until Million Dollar Baby came out, Unforgiven has been very hyped. How many modern westerns get hyped like this sucker did? None, that's how many. And of course, like I am with any hyped up movie, I had my doubts. I saw Million Dollar Baby before this, and thought it was average and predictable, and was sick of Morgan Freeman playing [yet again] the wise, older characters. Seeing that he was in Unforgiven didn't help my expected chances of liking the movie either. But when all was said and done, I had experienced one of the most heartfelt westerns ever made. No, it's not some sappy kind that relies on imagery or music to make you feel the impact of the film. Unforgiven instead focuses on one man's struggle to live normally after all the horrible things he'd done in the past, and his reflection upon them to an up and coming gunman. When the dvd format was released, this was a movie that a lot of people were anticipating. Sadly, it got a shoddy transfer and no special features that mattered. Celebrating the 10th anniversary of its release, this version of Unforgiven is easily the one to buy without question, featuring in-depth special features, a stunning transfer, and even cool packaging.
5-0 out of 5 stars A brief comment
I think this is one of the best westerns ever made, despite being a very atypical western. In most movies, the west was over-romanticized and idealized; here it's an unglamorous and almost film noir version of a western as several over the hill and cynical gunfighters, along with a rash, unproven, young wannabe, try to bring several evil-doers to justice. Each has his own reasons for taking part in this quest, despite the misgivings of Eastwood's and Freeman's characters. Both Freeman and Eastwood turn in a couple of their best performances, with Eastwood ironically turning in one that is 180 degrees apart from the macho role in the famous spaghetti westerns that originally made his name in the genre. Overall a fine western and one that should stand the test of time.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best westerns ever made
In the interest of brevity, I will say only: UNFORGIVEN is one of the best western films ever made and certainly the best film Clint Eastwood has ever made; everybody in it is good -- except Gene Hackman, who is great; don't miss it. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Readers of John Berendt's bestselling novel were bound to be at least somewhat disappointed by this big-screen adaptation, but despite mixed reaction from critics and audiences, there's still plenty to admire about director Clint Eastwood's take on the material. Readers will surely miss the rich atmosphere and societal detail that Berendt brought to his "Savannah story," and the movie can only scratch the surface of Georgian history, tradition, and wealthy decadence underlying Berendt's fact-based murder mystery. Still, Eastwood maintains an assured focus on the wonderful eccentrics of Savannah, most notably a gay Savannah antiques dealer (superbly played by Kevin Spacey), who may or may not have killed his friend and alleged lover (Jude Law). John Cusack plays the Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Bad... but Not Great
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil was a good crime movie that kept me watching til the end, although it was way too long.John Kelso (John Cusack), a reporter from New York, is sent to Savannah to write a story about the Christmas Party given by Jim Williams (Kevin Spacey). It all turns bad when Spacey's character kills somebody and he'll have to face trial for first degree murder.Just like in the novel, Eastwood tries to re-build the atmosphere and the life style from Savannah, the people living there and their habits.
4-0 out of 5 stars A beautiful film, languidly paced, and a very subtle message of tolerance...
I really liked this film. It's a bit long for most people, but most of Mr. Eastwood's films generally run a bit on the long side.I loved the languourous pacing of the whole thing. The film takes its time showing us Savannah, its people, its character, and its dark side.Kevin Spacey gives a performance that should have won an Oscar.John Cusack is excellent as well, but the most surprising performance here goes to Jack Thompson as Spacey's lawyer.Thompson is actually an Australian actor (who was in Breaker Morant years ago), yet he does the Southern style so well you'd think he was raised in Savannah. The most intriguing performance, if you can call it that, goes to The Lady Chablis, an actual transvestite performer who resides in Savannah. The scene where she goes to the cotillion is one of the best scenes in the entire film. She has grace, dignity, and mystique, and Clint lets the camera linger on her.Along with The Lady Chablis, Spacey's character is homosexual. In Thompson's final argument during the murder trial, he talks about his client's homosexuality, but says if God thinks it's a sin, then God should judge it.The generally positive portrayals of Spacey's character and Chablis show that a film can contain a message, yet be subtle about it and not hammer you over the head with it.Most Hollywood films that have gay characters in them always have that "tolerance" speech in them, as if the viewer is an idiot (well, some viewers are) and has to have everything spoon fed to her or him.Eastwood reportedly got some flack from right wing commentators over this film, primarily for his portrayal of the homosexual characters.Eastwood has identified himself generally as a Republican, but he seems more of a libertarian than anything else.Eastwood's films have always had digs at people who try and dictate your conduct (Bridges of Madison County has a powerful scene in a diner commenting on this), and this film is consistent with that point of view. Some have argued that this film is a horrible adaptation of the book.I haven't read it, but the film itself is very well done.

5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting Movie
My husband and I had seen the movie several times before I ordered it from Amazon. We never get tired of it even tho the movie is of a different sort! 4-0 out of 5 stars Nice Extras
The best part about this release for me is that it's widescreen and has a pretty nice commentary. Though I will say one thing about the commentary, it is entirely from the view of the directors. No actors take of a scene or anything, it's mostly the design of the sets, musical score, &etc. Having said that, it's nicely done for what it is.
4-0 out of 5 stars Open Wide The Gate
"Stargate" is fun, pure and simple. It takes history and science, spins them around in a blender with a cup of fiction, and cranks out a reasonably believable sci-fi classic.Starring James Spader as a geeky scientist who's really into decoding Egyptian heiroglyphics and a hard-nosed and slightly mentally unstable soldier played by Kurt Russell, "Stargate" gives the viewer a couple of things to ponder. What if "Ra" wasn't an actual god worshipped by early Egyptians, but an alien looking for a nice group of simpletons to turn into his slaves? What if those simpletons began to pick up on Ra's deception and run him off, only to have him gather up a few stragglers and start a slave colony on another planet that's linked to Earth via a "Stargate?"

5-0 out of 5 stars Peter Sellers is once again excellent
With every new Pink Panther Movie, Peter Sellers' performance continues to grow and mature. I've seen this move at least 7-8 times so far. It's definitely a classic.
4-0 out of 5 stars "He is Sir Charles Phantom, the notorious Litton!"
After an eleven-year absence, Inspector Jacques Clouseau returned for Blake Edwards' THE RETURN OF THE PINK PANTHER in 1975.The project was originally planned as a 26-part miniseries for the British ATV, then as a "Movie of the Week", before Edwards decided to turn it into a feature film. The result is another outrageous entry in the PINK PANTHER series, though it seems rather weak when compared with the first two films.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great comedy relief
The return of the Pink Panther is the best comedy in the series.Humor revolves around French inspector Jacques Clouseau.

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the best boxing flicks since 'Don King: Only in America'
I went on and saw this motion picture after learning that it had been the Academy's pick for "Best Picture" of 2004 and that it involved boxing. It had some realistic fight sequences, the narration by Morgan Freeman was top-notch, and Margaret Fitzgerald, the fighter, goes through some intense training sessions sponsored by Clint Eastwood's "Frankie Dunn," who, at first, is reluctant to train a thirty-something female. For some reason, the part I liked the most was the scene where Eddie Dupris, Morgan Freeman's character, KOs the young man for talkin' that smack, then says "Get a job, punk." Furthermore, it seemed that all Maggie's family cared about was the money that she was making as a result of her boxing career. They made that clear while she was in the hospital. She tells them to get lost, so to speak, and that took courage. The only part that I didn't like was the ending, hence the reduced star.
3-0 out of 5 stars allow the great acting to kayo the ridiculous writing
if you overlook the plethora of absurd plot holes (excuse me, but no cops are seeking clint eastwoods character for murder???) and concentrate on the strong performances, this is a good movie. hilary swank as the injured boxer and morgan freeman as the best friend both merited their oscars. but i cant rate this as a first-rate tear jerker because of the ridiculous screenplay by glorified tv hack paul haggis, who went on to perpetrate the even stupider screenplay for "crash".
5-0 out of 5 stars Touching even for the tough ones
With much talk surrounding the end of "Million Dollar Baby", many movie goers like yours truly came into the viewing of this extraordinary movie with our guard up. We knew of the emotional side of the movie and prepared to protect ourselves from getting caught. Like a seasoned boxer, we slipped, ducked, and may have even countered as the movie progressed into emotional and moving scene after another. In the end though all fighters do get stung and feel the leather. As prepared as one can be, the last 45 minutes of this movie are deeply moving, climaxing with the aforementioned knockout punch of emotional scenes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb film! A real classic.
My wife and I saw this film on TV, and have always wanted to get it. Finally we found it at Amazon. The DVD shows the film brilliantly, and it includes a lengthy and fascinating discussion by Julie Andrews and Blake Edwards. What makes that conversation even more interesting is that it occurred about twenty years after the film, and also after the stage version(which is also excellent). We are grateful to Amazon for making this DVD available.
