4-0 out of 5 stars I got hooked on "Grey's Anatomy" late...
The DVD was a great way to catch up.Grey's is turning out to be one of my all-time favorite shows. There's good characterization, drama and a lot of interesting medical cases.
5-0 out of 5 stars Addicting show
I recently bought season 1 of Grey's Anatomy. I think the show is great.I am not much of a tv watcher but this show peaked my interest. It has many great actors in the show, especially Chandra Wilson. She is a powerful actress. The cast is diverse and the show keeps you wanting more. I just ordered the 2nd season and I can't wait to watch that one too.Its nice to find good shows on tv once again. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Disney's 1992 animated feature is a triumph of wit and skill. The high-tech artwork and graphics look great, the characters are strong, the familiar story is nicely augmented with an interesting villain (Jafar, voiced by Jonathan Freeman), and there's an incredible hook atop the whole thing: Robin Williams's frantically hilarious vocal performance as Aladdin's genie. Even if one isn't particularly moved by the love story between the title character (Scott Weinger) and his girlfriend Jasmine (Linda Larkin), you can easily get lost in Williams's improvisational energy and the equally entertaining performances of Freeman and Gilbert Gottfried (as Jafar's parrot). 5-0 out of 5 stars SOUNDS GREAT - LOOKS GREAT & IT'S GOT ROBIN WILLIAMS & AN EXCITING PLOT TOO!
IN A NUTSHELL: A WHOLE NEW WORLD & IT INCLUDES ROBIN WILLIAMS AS THE GENIE
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Disney Fun For The Whole Family. Great Story, Wonderful Voice Cast And Classic Songs Make This A Diamond In The Rough.
Walt Disney Pictures struck gold yet again (as they've done since 1937, when Walt Disney released the comnpany's first animated feature film "Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs") with another delightful animated family film, a classic alongside "Beauty And The Beast," "The Lion King," "Toy Story" and many other Disney favorites. The story is timeless, like "Beauty And The Beast" and "The Lion King" so I won't summarize it. "Come on down, stop on by. Hop a Carpet And Fly To Another Arabian Night." Be prepared to discover "A Diamond In The Rough." The special features (beginning on Disc 1 and continued on Disc 2), along with the movie, are "A treasure-trove of riches" destined to please everyone. The voice cast includes Linda Larkin, Scott W., Jonathan Freeman, Gilbert Gottfried and Robin Williams. I love this movie. Rated G.

4-0 out of 5 stars the trend lives on
by 1992 and aladdin's release disney was riding high with such hits as "the little mermaid" and "beauty and the beast." disney carried on it's trend with this fun filled adventure.aladdin was truely a great additiion to the disney cannon because of strenght and subtleties.

Throughout his long, wandering, often distinguished career Francis Ford Coppola has made many films that are good and fine, many more that are flawed but undeniably interesting, and a handful of duds that are worth viewing if only because his personality is so flagrantly absent. Yet he is and always shall be known as the man who directed the Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars I refuse the offer
What we have here is, basically, two, because who actually has seen or even likes the third, of the most overblown, overhyped and unjustifiably overrated American films of all time.
5-0 out of 5 stars Dark & Delightful
I enjoyed watching these movies so much, I wish I had bought the DVDs a long time ago. Its amazing to see how the Part-III was made 18 years after part-I was made and everything looks so continuous if you watch them together. There has been much speculation on how the events in The Godfather novel written by Mario Puzo, the book the film is based on, could be an exposé of true facts. Many believe that the character of Johnny Fontane , for instance, was based on Frank Sinatra's real life, and many of the other characters were modeled after real people. I won't go into that: frankly, I have no idea whether these voices are reliable, although the Frank Sinatra reference seems obviously quite believable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Really Wanted This!
We have enjoyed the Godfather saga ever since it first came out in the 1970s. A young Al Pacino made his mark in this movie and we think that it was one of the roles that enabled to go as far as he has. Also, as a part of our family is from New Jersey, the period scenes of Ellis Island and New York City lets us remember what it was like growing up in that time and lets our family's new generation learn about it too. We have had the collection on VHS for some time, but the opportunity to have it on DVD was too good to pass up. The price was excellent as well, considering that it's all the movies plus the fourth DVD with the behind the scenes stuff.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Love Story
This is a great love story, unfortunately it had a very poor director and could have been so much more. She tells her fiance she loves him and wants to be with him less than 24 hrs after she just lost her virginity to Noah, than she goes back to live the rest of her life with Noah. Its great she ends up with Noah but whats with this director.

5-0 out of 5 stars Renew your faith in love with this movie!
I do not know about any of the other reviewers, but, this movie had me sobbing. His relentless and unending love would make anyone want that kind of lifelong partner. I have not met anyone yet who has seen this movie and not been touched by it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wish there were "4-7/8 stars" to select ...
... because that's what I'd pick. As usual, I don't want to synopsize any movie. It spoils it for me to hear the plot ahead of time. Like another reviewer, I was a bit put off by the ending (hence "only" 4-7/8 stars). It was tied a little too neatly in a bow. On the other hand, one particular scene shortly before the end made the final ending a welcome relief. Having just buried my father recently, I know (we all know) how ugly it could have been.

5-0 out of 5 stars Question not a comment
Does this 25th anniversary edition have the scene when P.J. Soles' character Lynda comes over to Laurie's house to borrow the blouse?

1-0 out of 5 stars Boo!
It wasn't a bad movie except for all the killing. How about a nice movie where people just get along? Instead, this crazy michael myers guy runs around killing all the teenie weeners and ruins halloween for everyone. This character totally ruined the movie. Pleasent Donald demonstrated some good acting but I had a hard time telling him apart from that buttugly Jamie Lee Curtis.

    5-0 out of 5 stars Halloween...a classic.
When I was about 10 years old, I saw this movie for the first time at a friend's house when there was a sleepover. It was the scariest thing I have ever seen. Even since then, it has been my favorite horror movie or dare I say my favorite movie of all time? I think so. It's a classic. When I bought it on DVD i expected a bare bones edition with nothing besides the movie. I was wrong. I was shocked when I saw a documentary including interviews with John Carpenter, Debra Hill, Jamie Lee Curtis and P.J. Soles, among many others. I was pleasantly surprised at the director's commentary as well. I usually don't watch films with the commentary on because I find it ruins the film, but...I'm so fascinated with this film I had to see with. I highly recommened this film for anyone, horror fan or not. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 'Where's the money. Lebowski?" - "It's uh... uh... it's down there somewhere, let me take another look. "
I won't add to the voluminous praise that already exists in abundance on Amazon that speaks so eloquently of this film.I agree totally with everything written here stemming from a positive vibe, man. This is one of my favorite movies.Certainly my favorite Coen Brothers movie in their comedic body of work, even bypassing "Raisng Arizona" (which I think is a masterpiece as well).
1-0 out of 5 stars The only good part of this movie is when...
...Tara Reid offers a certain favor for a thousand dollars. Other than that, it's a typical Coen Brothers "Look-we're-being-clever" affair. And yet the laughs are few and the "zaniness" rings hollow.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious
The main character, Lebowski, is a bum of a person living in Los Angeles who spends most of his time either doing nothing or bowling with characters played by John Goodman and Steve Buscemi. Suddenly Lebowski's life is changed when he is mistaken for another Lebowski who is much wealthier than he and who as gotten involved with a group of unsavory characters.

This film has been revered by critics for over 50 years, and it still stands up as one of the best films in history.

5-0 out of 5 stars As Time Goes By ...It's Simply One of the Best
I'm no film critic, but I do like older movies, especially Hitchcock, John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, and Humphrey Bogart. Casablanca bears watching again and again. It's wonderful love story, a mystery, and a war movie. Watching Casablanca the first time is an experience to be savored.

    Editorial Review

Frank Capra made this film in 1941 before he went off to make films for America's war effort, but it wasn't released until 1944. Adapted from the hit play by Joseph Kesselring, this frantic black comedy shows Capra at his best as a master of mood and timing. Actresses Josephine Hull and Jean Adair reprise their Broadway performances as two gentle old ladies who poison men with elderberry wine to put them out of their misery. Cary Grant plays one nephew, a normal guy who just gets wind of their little hobby and tries to get them to stop, while Raymond Massey plays another, a villain just escaped from jail. Capra encourages the cast, especially Grant, to give a somewhat more outsized performance than one might expect. But made during the war years as it was, this overstated comic approach to killing was probably cathartic. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars THE funniest movie of all time!!
No matter how many times I see this, I laugh as if it were the first!
    5-0 out of 5 stars A Good Old-fashioned Bellylaugh
I just loved this movie. It was fun watching the usually suave Cary Grant become befuddled and half crazed when he discovers his two dear sweet old aunts have been very, very naughty. Between "Teddy Roosevelt" charging up the stairs blowing his bugle and digging the Panama Canal in the basement....his evil cousin (Raymond Massey) and his evil cousin's sidekick, Dr. Einstein (played by Peter Lorre) you almost overlook the elderberry wine - but take my word for it...you shouldn't. ;-)
5-0 out of 5 stars Capra's horror comedy
It was very unusual for famed director Frank Capra to adapt a hit Broadway play into a motion picture.Yet that's exactly what he did in 1941 with the long-running play "Arsenic and Old Lace."However, Warner Brothers had an agreement not to release the film until the play completed its very long run and that didn't happen until 1944, by which time Capra had left Hollywood for wartime service (making outstanding documentaries for the U.S. government).

5-0 out of 5 stars What are you talking about?I went to Smith!
So says Kristin Davis, as Charlotte, when confronted with the idea of performing a particular sex act. This hilarious and clever series has many clever lines and funny moments that pass in the blink of an eye. I can't believe it has taken me this long to finally watch the show that everyone has been talking about for eight years.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sex and the City - Complete First Season
Excellent- I expected it to be great, but it was even better than expected, I received it must faster than I anticipated. The show is just great. I have seen the shows I missed andI am looking forward to completing the entire series of the show.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous
Sex And The City is one of the comedies for the '90's, a slick, classy affair that's not afraid to push the boundaries to the limit. It's graphic (sort of) depiction of sex is ground-breaking, yet it doesn't forget it's main reason for being out there, to be funny.Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon are exemplary as Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda. The supporting players (Chris Noth, etc.) are helpful and the plotlines are racy and hilarious.

4-0 out of 5 stars MEN OF CONSTANT SORROW
Another bizarre entry in the Coen Brothers arsenal, O BROTHER is a thoroughly entertaining if somewhat unusual film. The story focuses on three prison escapees who are going to Mississippi to collect the 1.2 million dollars supposedly hidden there.Based on Homer's ODYSSEY, the film involves our three heroes/stooges in some unusual adventures, all leading to a lot of twists in its looney conclusion. What makes it work is the spirited performances of George Clooney, John Turturro and Tim Blake Nelson as the escapees; the charming bluegrass music including the surprise smash hit I AM A MAN OF CONSTANT SORROW and some nice bits from supporting players John Goodman and Holly Hunter. It has some Three Stooges touches, and is filmed quite beautifully. All in all, a weird but enjoyable comedy.

About two years ago I was in a thrift store checking out the good stuff, as I was heading out I walked past a TV set that was playing "O Brother, Where Art Thou".I was stopped in my tracks and stood there for half an hour just mesmerized while watching the video. Talk about totally different and totally enjoyable, I couldn't belive it, it reminded me of a time in the 1940s while living in South Carolina. I returned the next day and bought the video. Now I have the concert "Down From the Mountain"

I think Chapelle's Show is about average for tv comedy. There are some clever ideas, but a lot of filler used in bringing them to life. Most of his skits seem designed to appeal mostly to viewers who fit or relate to the urban/ghetto persona he portrays. Chris Rock has a similar persona but his subject matter is more universally relatable. Chappelle's Show seems to require the viewer to laugh with rather than at the urban/ghetto perspective, something impossible for the white suburbanites who presumably comprise most of the show's fanbase. Most of his skits are also one-note jokes that get dragged out for way too long. The blind, black white-supremicist bit is a prime example. It's a vaguely clever concept, but the punchline is delivered at the start and everything that comes after is entirely predictable. I guess maybe people like that because they like being in on the joke as it unfolds, I dunno, but I think a vital part of comedy is consistently zigging and zagging, not just introducing a concept and then fleshing it out piece by predictable redundant piece. The absurdity of the Player Hater's Ball concept on the other hand did benefit from being fleshed out because it had some kind of originality to it.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best comedy shows in history
Without a doubt, Dave Chappelle created one of the greatest shows to air on television, but I might just be saying too much...or not. Everything he does will crack you up and if it doesn't you have no sense of humor. While I don't have the first season yet, I have seen the whole thing, and it is worth the purchase 100%.
5-0 out of 5 stars dave chappelle's show is golden(and that ain't no shower)!
this was and still is one of the best skit comedy shows out at the time. dave's natural gift of comedy is very well suited to this outrageous and howling, profaine, and insightful show. mr. chappelle has taken some great bits and turned skit comedy on it's ear! this set isn't for everyone, but if like me the skit of the blind, black white supermacist(watch to understand) is just the funniest bit i have seen in years.

Always have loved Robin Williams and this is just the latest in a long line of things to love. It's good to see his stand up routines again

5-0 out of 5 stars Funny as Hell
For the last 5 or so years, movies based on the lives of serial killers are released straight-to-video. Other titles include Dahmer, Ted Bundy, Gacy, Speck, and Nightstalker. I've seen the first three and they were crap. They didn't stick to the facts, they were laughable, and they were just plain horrible. "Evilenko" is based on the novel "The Communist Who Ate Children" by David Grieco; Who writes and directs this film. Evilenko is not a real person, but merely inspired by one; Andrie Chikatilo. Chikatilo was a serial killer of young children during the Soviet Union, but to tell you the truth I don't know much about him. I know that he took the eyes of most of the people he killed and that he was kept in a cage during his trial, to keep the families of his victims from harming him. Even though this film is obviously inspired by Chikatilo, it's just like the other serial killer films...Completely different from his life. It's also an incredibly dull movie, but I'm giving it a C because I do give props to Grieco for changing the name. First off, I only rented this because the only thing I've seen Malcolm McDowell in was "A Clockwork Orange," a film that left a great actor typecast. I've never seen another film with McDowell and the only movies I've heard of with him in it are "The Company" and "The Barber." He's a pretty good actor and he's the highlight of this movie. As Evilenko he hits the right notes; He's capable of getting that crazy look in his eye, while still being vulnerable. He did the same thing in Clockwork. Anyway, basically the plot is...Former schoolteacher Andrej Evilenko is fired, at which point he begins raping and killing woman...But never onscreen. The blood and gore factor in this movie is actually surprisingly minimal. Borderline nonexistent. Eventually, a detective and psychiatric profiler get involved to bring Evilenko to justice...But not until after he's killed more than 50 people. The movie drags on, something a little gore could have helped to speed along; It's not disturbing, although it tries to be and the scene where he attempts to rape a student is probably the most disturbing scene in the film. Problem is, you still have over 100 minutes to endure after that. If you didn't like the serial-killer movies I mentioned above, so don't waste your time like I did.

Dave Chappelle's shrewd parodies, stinging satires, and boldly imaginative fantasias simply pour from the second season of his Comedy Central show, in every respect as funny as his well-received debut year. The structure is the same: a relaxed Chappelle introduces each sketch to an enthusiastic, studio audience (some of these introductions amount to stand-up routines), and then the madness begins. Among the many highlights from the 13 episodes on this boxed set's three discs is a mock ad for Samuel L. Jackson beer, featuring Chappelle's hilarious impression of Jackson's stern, overbearing persona from Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Another season to a classic show!
Season 2 is just as good, if not better, than Season 1 was. For now I only own this one, but either way they both are classics. There is no denying that there are sketches in here that will make your cheeks hurt from laughing you a ss off.
5-0 out of 5 stars Chapelle is a brilliant , if often misunderstood, satirist
Season 1 and 2 of Chapelle's Show are amazing, and it is a shame that we no longer have his very witty, very intelligent truth-telling regularly on air.Dave Chapelle is a brilliant satirist, who isn't continuing his show mostly because so many people can't -- or don't want to -- understand what he is saying. His skits explore the hypocrisy inherent in American society, especially concerning race. However, he is equally critical of both black and white.More than anything, he is usually commenting on people who say one thing when they mean another, people who insist on being oblivious to the wrongs around them, and likewise, the people who blame their misfortune on racism when it is usually the result of their own shortcomings. He also mocks the attention given to many of our celebrities and mocks celebrity culture in general, often bringing on the celebrities themselves to participate in his commentary (Skits with Rick James and Wayne Brady are but a few).He is brilliant. These DVDs are terrific, and he will be missed!

1-0 out of 5 stars Heir to Richard Pryor's genius? Please....
I gave the guy a chance.I saw his stand up and some of his skits.Recently, I saw him on that pompous show, "Inside the Actor's Studio."They showed some of his "classic" bits.Throughout it all, not one laugh shook my tummy.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not your mother's Jane Austen
Bit of a disappointment. No chemistry between the leads.Rather disjointed pedestrian dance numbers, truly bland music, juvenile dialogue, indifferent acting.Just very very mediocre. Lots of colorful costumes though. Also a funny snake charmer danceby one of the sister characters that may have been the film's highlight.

2-0 out of 5 stars Bad Casting and Characterization
Sorry, but Elizabeth's character in Pride and Prejudice was meant to be plain and her sister was the beautiful one. That was a recurring point in the story. Then why the heck did they cast Ashwarya Rai "most beautiful woman in the world" as the plain sister. Give me a break!

5-0 out of 5 stars Rock N Roll Wet Dream Fantasy
This is one very fun movie for any true fan of rock and roll. The idea is that a young adolescent kid gets to go on tour with a top band and write about it for Rolling Stone magazine. This is the next best thing to actually being a rock star, especially the way that Cameron Crowe handles it in this masterful film.A real feel-good entertainment experience from the director of Jerry McGuire, complete with several poignant moments that will make you think and feel something very special.Brilliant!

5-0 out of 5 stars The "Almost Famous" Tour
I'm a big fan of all things 1970s, and am into a lot of rock bands from that era (Yes, Genesis, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, etc, etc, etc). I'd heard about "Almost Famous", that it was a rock'n'roll kind of film, but the moment I found out it was set in the 1970s, I kept my eye out for the DVDs. Being born in the 1980s, I can't say whether this was an accurate potrait of the music scene back then, but I certainly found it interesting.

I'm an aspiring journalist and though I dont sing or play an instrument it moves me musically too.Music is my mood changer.I could be pissed at the world and for that moment in that time, that one song could calm me.These songs can do that again.Buy the soundtrack. This is another of those movies I wonder "HOW is this a classic?". Maybe the book was a lot better than the movie! I was watching this, not expecting much, but expecting to earn my respect, the way "Scarface" or "Casablanca", movies I don't like but have earned my respect as classic movies.

From the moment that Prince Eric's ship emerged from the fog in the opening credits it was apparent that Disney had somehow, suddenly recaptured that "magic" that had been dormant for thirty years. In the tale of a headstrong young mermaid who yearns to "spend a day, warm on the sand," Ariel trades her voice to Ursula, the Sea Witch (classically voiced by Pat Carroll), for a pair of legs. Ariel can only succeed if she receives true love's kiss in a few day's time and she needs all the help she can from a singing crab named Sebastian, a loudmouth seagull, and a flounder. The lyrics and music by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken are top form: witty and relevant, and they advance the story (go on, hum a few bars of "Under the Sea"). Read more

First... let's just say that somebody needs to tell Ashley Tisdale to lose the boots. They're only gonna be even more embarrasing in 20 years than they are today. Where are Joan and Melissa when we need them!? "Kiss the Girl"? ... pass.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of Disney's Finest Achievements!
In a wonderful kingdom under the sea lives the beautiful mermaid princess, Ariel, seventh and youngest daughter of King Triton, ruler of Atlantica. Ariel's feisty spirit and gorgeous red hair make her a bit of a favorite among Triton's daughters, and her passion for learning human ways and collecting of their artifacts causes much stress to her family and friends. After spying a handsome, young, human prince aboard a ship one evening and saving his life, Ariel is instantly love-struck, and this is completely unacceptable to her overbearing, human-hating father. In a desperate and rebellious action, Ariel turns to a seductive sea witch for help, who takes possession of Ariel's beautiful voice in exchange for a magical spell. The spell changes Ariel's fish-like tail into a lovely pair of human legs, but there is a condition attached. If Ariel can't get the young prince to fall in love with her in three days and seal it with a kiss, the spell will be broken and Ariel will join the witch Ursula's collection of hideously transformed victims. Luckily, the prince is in love with her already, though he doesn't know it. Prince Eric is obsessed with finding the young lady who saved him from drowning that night and whom he caught a glimpse of as she sang to him just before disappearing. When he takes in the now human Ariel after she appears seemingly washed up from a shipwreck, her inability to speak makes him sure she is not the one. Voiceless and only left with her beauty and exuberant charm, Ariel and her animal friends must try their best to make the prince see that she is the lost love he has been searching for, but the Sea Witch will do all she can to stop them before time runs out! If Ursula holds power over Princess Ariel, the king himself will have to bow down before her!
5-0 out of 5 stars DEEP SEA IN FUN. MAKE A SPLASH WITH THIS MERMAID!
Finally, the long-anticipated eighth addition to Disney's Platinum Collection is here making quite the splash---the bonus tracks in this disc-disc edition include a brand-new making-of feautrette, never-before-deleted scenes, a backstage peek into the world of Imagineering, music videos, special effect demos, and song demos. We often wondered how Ursula ended up a sea witch (some others calling the multi-tentacled terror an "octopus"); one of our favorite deleted scenes reveals Ursula's real identity . . . unless you've been basking in a seaweed wrap all these years, Ursula is voiced by the Cape's own Pat Carroll. Getting it done has never sounded so true. And terrifying.

1-0 out of 5 stars Long and laborious, and so very cold and pointless... how is this a classic?
I'm a modern type of movie viewer, but I can appreciate classics, like "Annie Hall", "Midnight Cowboy", "Forrest Gump", "Casablanca", etc. I simply do not understand what people see in "The Godfather" To start with, I'm not really into the whole crime mob Italian Sicilian Naples mafiosi family thing, so it didn't have my attention at that. The acting was good, but Marlon Brando was annoying--his weirdy voice is infamous, but I couldn't understand anything he said! It sounded very flaccid and emotionless, too.
3-0 out of 5 stars The Godfather
I saw it for the first time. No, this is not a misprint. Brando was brilliant. Yep, my first time seeing him in a film. I don't feel I have to tell you what made this film so compelling. But, seeing as how I'm milking my "redneck in China" and "grits with chopsticks" bit for all it's worth right now, I'll mention juxtapositions. Like watching PURPLE RAIN and THE GODFATHER as a double feature. Who else does that? Both films are stylized, and understandably dated in a few spots. And I thought PURPLE RAIN was too violent? I stand corrected.
5-0 out of 5 stars "Leave the gun. Take the cannolis."
That is one of my favorite lines in a movie.
