DONT listen to that silly man " a viewer" He doesnt know a thing. You can watch this extrodinary film on DVD and reap the hearty rewards of laughter and happiness. Or you can watch a VHS and dial up the internet while you toast your snax on a fire. In other words....The dvd is far better then any old VHS. This DVD is the best. Just believe me. You will thank me later. And see Spamalot too.

4-0 out of 5 stars A breath of fresh air.
With all the deadly serious movies about the grail out there these days it's good to once again watch a movie that treats the subject with a sense of humor.
    5-0 out of 5 stars A Newt?
One of my favorite comedies, and Monty Python's best and most irreverent movie is Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The Monty Python troop made three films and had a television series that challenged the status quo by dealing with religion, class welfare, politics and dead parrots. There humor seems as fresh and rebellious today as when it was aired. Sometimes their humor was forced -- some scenes in The Meaning of Lif(e) ; however, Monty Python and the Holy Grail has the perfect mix of antitoletarism, irreverence and silly sots.

5-0 out of 5 stars the movie is 5 stars, but WTF Amazon?
after all these reviews they still haven't corrected the problem. I thought i made the mistake of ordering the wrong format, but after checking and double checking the listing, i realize it's not me - it's them.I sent the stupid PSP version back and hope they get me the right version.

This is not the DVD version. Amazon has incorrectly advertised this!!! I ordered this before the previous comments were made and now i have to wait until it gets to me before I can return it.

I had to contact Amazon five times about this item.I ordered it on 10-1 and it didn't ship for several weeks. Then when I check my account, the description had changed to UMD for PSP.You will not get the DVD if you order this.I eventually cancelled mine.Amazon is using the wrong cover art and the wrong disc specs for this title and doesn't seem too worried about correcting this.DO NOT ORDER. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Not the MOST disgusting movie
Is it because I saw the uncorked version that I feel slimed -- or is it just because I am old? Maybe it's because looking at really a lot of naked breasts just isn't my idea of a great time at the movies. In any case, the lines that most moved me were the two or three times when one character gently upbraided another claiming youth for their hijinx: "We're just young guys having fun (or something like that)."The answer: "You're not that young" (and honestly it's not that fun -- most of us dread being guests at weddings).
3-0 out of 5 stars It was O.K.
The most surprising aspect of this film was that such a very average comedy could become such a huge box office hit. While the first hour had a few laughs, the second became bogged down in a sappy romance, and had me checking the "time remaining," on my DVD player. While it wasn't a bad movie, I saw a lot of wasted potential in it. The concept of wedding crashing is funny, I just wanted them to do more with it. For example, the main characters allude to attending a variety of ethnic weddings (Hindu, Chinese, etc.) but we aren't shown much. It would have worked better if they cut the romance a bit, and showed us more of the weddings. The extravagant lies one would have to tell and ensuing complications seem like they would be a rich source of comedy, but are never exploited. Also, Christopher Walken is a wonderful comedic actor (see him on Saturday Night Live as "The Continental" and the music producer for Blue Oyster Cult, to know what I mean), but his talents are wasted here in a humorless, straight role.

4-0 out of 5 stars This movie isn't smart. It isn't great. But it's "fun."
The opening sequence with Dwight Yokum and Rebecca De Mornay is one of the funniest in the film. The rest doesn't live quite up to it. The movie suffers from an improbability problem. I know from working weddings like some they went to, it's not easy to sneak into a wedding, especially high profile weddings with bouncers and giant men standing at the doors looking at your invite!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great 1970's Music Moment
When I saw The Last Waltz I knew it was for a moment in time which would never come back. The artists were so special and so good and now some are no longer with us. I loved Joanie Mitchell's number and the Band's many numbers as well as Van Morrison's number. Robbie Robertson was so good looking.

3-0 out of 5 stars It only took six measures
Six measures into the first tune, "Don't Do It," I knew they'd blown it with this release. As a fan of the movie for years, I wore out my videocassette copy, and grabbed the Special Edition DVD.

3-0 out of 5 stars This movie is a joke!
I enjoyed reaching all of the books in this series, but I'm sorry to say I can't say the same for the movies."Love Comes Softly" wasn't an exact duplicate of the corresponding book but at least the basic storyline was right for the most part."Love's Enduring Promise" concentrated on about 5 pages' worth of the entire book, and even screwed that up."Nathan Willie LaHaye"???Hello.....Nathan was Willie's OLDER brother, and he did NOT have a little brother named Mattie who froze to death - his OLDER SISTER died in childbirth after marrying the schoolteacher (BEFORE Missie was old enough to teach school in the first place)! In the book, Grant Thomas was only "present" in the story when he asked Missie's mother if he could take her for a drive, and was never heard from again except when Missie asked her mother how she could tell him she only wanted to be friends.Furthermore, Grant was the son of a local businessman, NOT a railroad heir.I realize that all moviemakers use poetic license, but ruining a perfectly good story to create an unbelieveable one is STUPID!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, within what it is supposed to be
Come on folks, this is a, "Little House on the Prairie," Michael Landon-ish, light-weight story meant for little girls to enjoy.Within what it was meant to be, that is, being what it was created to be, at that level and with the goals of production, acting and directing being what they were, within that overallrealm of expectation, meant to appeal to unsophisticated 13 year old girls who thought they might be experiencing something they could relate to, with which they could identify, being that much only, then this little production was, in reality a huge success. The parameters of what a show is attempting to be must be considered in any evaluation. Most grownups would have a difficult time sitting through this piece of work. That, in and of itself, demonstrates that the end result didn't do for non-targeted audience demographic groups exactly what it was not meant to do, that is it did not entertain the wrong group for which it was targeted. Anytime any type, or genre of any movie that is being reviewed is evaluated, the reviewer that simply says that they didn't like it, without realizing he or she was not supposed to be enthralled with it, then they have not shown any understanding of how movies are objectively reviewed. An example:I, personally, could not take, "The Exorcist."But, but..., if reviewed as a piece of work within its category, the category within which it was intended, I must come to the conclusion that it was very well made and did a great job of doing what was intended for the exact group for which it was marketed and targeted. My not liking that particular type of movie is irrelevant.I have heard Roger Ebert give many movies the benefit of a review that was other-than-self oriented. You may not care for, say,Westerns, but there are some Westerns that are, for Westerns, being what they were supposed to be, are amazing films.Any film "boring" any one of us cannot be a valid platform from which a movie reviewcan be proffered then expected to be respected by others.I have done it myself. The film, "The Right Stuff,"was harder for me to watch than almost any other film I have ever seen. But, it was very well done, in almost every aspect.Evaluating the quality of filmmaking, and the personal rating of how one liked or did not like any film, well made or not, they are two very different types of approaches.
2-0 out of 5 stars Yawn...
I was a huge fan of the books growing up, and a lover of the period and Jannette Oke's books. I had greatly enjoyed the first movie and was eagerly looking forward to watching the next in the series. Well, I just finished -- and could hardly stop from yawning while I watched!

    Editorial Review

This first movie from the Discovery Channel favorite opens with a plot of international intrigue over a downed satellite, but within four minutes Steve Irwin is belly flopping after a baby croc on the outback floor. Steve and his nerves-of-steel sidekick wife, Terri, are asked to relocate a cattle-chomping crocodile before it's shot by a local rancher. This same reptile happened to swallow the intelligence-gathering device that fell to earth, and so begins the goofball premise of this lark of a movie. The feds believe the Irwins are appropriating their classified info, and the Irwins think they're running from poachers. Quibblers may object to Irwin's frequent interruptions to introduce a bird-eating spider or paw through croc dung, but Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Terrific Epitaph To The Life of the Crocodile Hunter
I only saw Steve Irwin's show a few times.I saw him a few times on the talk show circuit and found him an engaging personality.Unfortunately, I was drawn to this film by Steve's untimely passing.I was hesitant to view it for two reasons.I didn't want to dislike this film.I also didn't want to praise this film effusely because of Steve's death.Fortunately, this is a terrific family film. The best part of the film is that Steve is an engagingly energetic cheerleader for wildlife. Not only is Steve witty but he is incredibly knowledgable about the wild kingdom.I'm not a viewer of the Discovery Channel but I was on the edge of my seat as Steve relates the lifestyles of varied creatures.Steve's wife, Terri, makes for a fetching sidekick. The only drawback to the film are lesser stories about the CIA trying to intercept a missing black box in the Outback and a portly female rancher trying to bag a crocodile whose been devouring her livestock. These story threads, however, are ultimately woven into the story for a satisfying conclusion. If you have reservations about viewing this film because it may make you sad never fear.Ultimately, "Crocodile Hunter-Collision Course" is a celebration of a rich and full life and that will bring on a smile.

4-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful way to remember the legendary Steve Irwin
If you were a fan of the late, great Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin, then Collision Course is a must-have for your collection. The movie isn't bad...not the best movie ever, but it's certainly entertaining enough, and if you enjoyed watching Irwin's shows, you'll have fun with this movie. Perhaps the best part is all the special features on the disc. There are several documentaries and deleted scenes that are just terrific and yet another way to immortalize Steve Irwin forever. Kids will no doubt appreciate this film too, and I don't think a single profanity is ever uttered in it. The price Amazon lists it for is decent, but I found mine shockingly enough right after Steve Irwin died in the $5.50 bin at Wal-Mart. Definitely a steal at that price! With Collision Course, you have a wonderful memento of the Steve Irwin we all loved so much. Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Nearly 40 years old, now, the film still works...
You can even get a flash of Olivia Hussey's breast in the bedroom scene if you look closely, and she was only 15 at the time of filming, so this version of the ancient play was controversial in its day. It has passion, style, great supporting actors, and is true to its source as well. While the more recent version with Leonardo DiCaprio has some good moments, too, this one is the high water mark of "Romeo and Juliet" on film. I will never forget seeing this at the base theater at Fort Knox, Kentucky, after spending a month in Vietnam, facing almost another year in the Army. When the movie ended, one soldier in front of me said to his buddy, "They think they've got troubles? Try being in the damn Army!"Well, R and J did have life-ending troubles, but their falling in love, as instant as it was, achieves believability and really tugs at the hearts of the audience. This movie was a fine accomplishment, and its soundtrack album was also a big seller on LP in the late '60's. That Shakespeare fellow did his writin' before movies were invented, I think, yet his stuff adapts really well to the screen. For my taste, a Shakespeare movie almost always beats seeing his plays on stage.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Pinnacle Film Captures the Pure Essence of the Play
There have been many screen adaptations of Romeo and Juliet over the years. Some of them played by some of Hollywood's top actors and actresses. There was even the Romeo and Juliet last done by Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes, which to my mind is simply Romeo and Juliet on steroids.
4-0 out of 5 stars Brings back my teen years in the theater.
First saw this movie as a 14 or 15 year-old teen.Loved the film!It is one of those seminal movie moments of my youth.I think it is the definitive film version of 'Romeo and Juliet.'Never saw DiCaprio's version and have no real desire to.The DVD was of excellent quality, considering the original film was shot in 1968. My teen daughter watched it with me, and did have some trouble following the Shakespearean dialog, but she could still follow the storyline. (I think we had more exposure to the classics in the Baby Boomer Gen than do kids today.) Nonetheless, we both enjoyed the experience and the DVD was delivered in Amazon's usual timely manner. The angry Prince's final words to the feuding families, "All are punish-ed. ALL ARE PUNISH-ED!" stands as an electric moment in the film. The performances by all are terrific.Enjoy! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Stunning
I'm not a big fan of `kicking and punching' films. My partner is... so I've grown immune to them, to some degree. But Hero is one film that stands above all the others I've endured. The action is... well, the action you always get in this kind of film, but there's also so much more. A tender love story, plot twists, and some of the most stunningly beautiful cinematography you'll ever see. The colours, the flowing movements, the locations... it's like opening a box of chocolates and seeing all your favourites. Wonderful
3-0 out of 5 stars Jet Li's interpretation of the "One China" policy
I suppose I can't complain about a Chinese nationalist movie. After all, we have many ourselves, some of which are considered true classics (e.g., High Noon; Mr. Smith Goes to Washington) and some are kitschy classics (e.g., Red Dawn).
4-0 out of 5 stars The released from Edko Films was better.
I owned this dvd but it's a region 3 code and was released by Edko films. I have two edition of this movie, The Theatrical Version which presented in 2 disc and The Directors's Cut Version. I love everything about this movie and also the special features. I think that I have made the right choice by buying both edition because The Theatrical Version released in 2 disc which the second disc contains lots of supplement material such as the making, trailer, interview with the cast and crew, etc.and the The Director's Cut, only one disc which is it's an uncut version. I don't know well about the region 1 code dvdof this film. so my reviewed was based on the region 3. I've searched the comparison both region code dvd and bought the region 3 dvd straight away after I've found that region 3 was better for this film. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This movie truely filled my imagination
I searched high and low for this movie for a very long time. i saw this movie when i was about 9 years old and i am 29 now. i couldn't remember the name of it until about 2002. i was searching online and really making up names for it until it came on television. and ever since then i had to have it. this movie back then really had my imagination going about the future. but overall i have to have this movie in my movie collection. i love it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Childhood classic
I first watched this movie as a kid in the 80's, and practically wore the old vhs copy out back then. It was great to find it on dvd and relive the memories all over again. This movie has a little bit of something for everyone. Also of note is the pioneering CG special effects used in this film.. (the environment mapping on the spaceship). Groundbreaking for the time...

4-0 out of 5 stars JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR
When Norman Jewison was to direct the movie of the rock opera he decided to film in naturalistic settings at the location where the story took place. So far,so good. But under the oppresive, scorching sun and arid desert heat it becomes apparent that Mr Jewison lost his mind.

5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful intellectual and ethical exercise...
This is one of my favorite films from the '60's, and I saw a superb stage production of it as well, two years before the film version. Sir Thomas More, chancellor of England, is asked to choose between his King and his Catholic Church. He refuses to take a side, publicly, but everyone in the nation knows he opposes King Henry's decision to break with the Pope so that he can marry another wife. How More (Paul Schofield) tries to stay alive via a silence that shouts a rebuke makes for compelling drama. A young Robert Shaw does a flamboyant and wonderful job as King Henry, but then, the entire supporting cast, as is common in British productions, is great. Faith and greed, power and the loss of it, survival and sacrifice...all are elements of this fine film.
5-0 out of 5 stars A courageous and moral man - Thomas More
A 1966 period movie with a true story about a man who stands up against powerful King Henry VIII and many others for his moral beliefs in regard to divorce. The king wanted a male heir and wanted to divorce his wife and take another one to achieve that.He was trying to get the church's permission to get out of this marriage with their approval. The stand Thomas More takes complicates his life in many ways, including his family and friends.More is an influential man of some means who was high in the leadership of England at that time.
5-0 out of 5 stars Would St. Thomas More really be any more popular today?
The technical excellence of this film on every level has already been sufficiently and deservedly documented many times over.

5-0 out of 5 stars the best movie of Tim Burton's career
Tim Burton is a brilliant visual director but with Edward Scissorhands he managed to combine these talents with pure, classic storytelling - Scissorhands is his best overall film, abandoning the slight characterizations and special effects-driven spectacle of the (albeit hugely enjoyable) Batman and serving up a convincingly detailed left-of-center fairytale romance.
5-0 out of 5 stars To Love A Fictional Character
This movie makes it easy to fall in love with the main character, Edward, played marvelously by Johnny Depp, who is one of my favorite actors.Winona Rider is great too, and combined with Tim Burton's brilliance makes one heck of a movie. The music is by Danny Elfman, and it fits wonderfully and highlights the many poignant and emotional moments in the film.Vincent Price is in this movie too, and we get to enjoy some of his last work before he, in real life, passes away.He plays the inventor of Edward, whos life is cut short and is unable to finish his creation.Parts of this movie bring a tear to my eye.Have your Kleenex handy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Poignant Fairy Tale
Tim Burton brings to life a rare combination of elements that create story that brings tears to my eyes every time I watch it. On the surface the story is the tale of Edward Scissorhands, created by inventor Vincent Price in one of his greatest roles. "Edward Scissorhands" could have been another story completely, a horror story, or science fiction, or a comedy. Instead, Tim Burton creates a beautiful fairy tale set in an idealized suburbia of the 50s.

5-0 out of 5 stars It Is a Fairy Tale - And it has a moral
There seems to be two schools of thought regarding this movie. There are those who are unable to see past Julia's profession, and all it might entail, and there are those who see how someone who clearly had to make a bad choice one day realized it, and along the way helped someone else realize the bad choices they had made. It's all a charming fairy tale that I have watched over and over again.
4-0 out of 5 stars Cinderella Romantic Comedy
It's been quite a few years since I've watched this "classic" pairing of Richard Gere and Julia Roberts. The movie is full of great dialogue and situational humor and a realistic development between both characters. There were a few instances where the leads weren't in their best form when it came to acting ability, but I imagine we'll see a 25th-Anniversary version on the shelves. I think people will want to see this movie for awhile.

5-0 out of 5 stars An AMAZING movie!
This is a classic- MUST HAVE for everyone who loves a good romantic comedy!

2-0 out of 5 stars almost as exciting as watching golf on tv
ok, i have an admission to make: i have always said this is one of the most boring movies ever made, but i never actually saw it til now. not that i didnt pay my way into the theater because i did. but i fell asleep after 20 minutes or so and never actually SAW the movie. now i have. worse movies have won the oscar: "gandhi", "kramer vs kramer", "the english patient", maybe a few more. but i dont think theres ever been a duller movie. that said, i gave it 2 stars instead of one to honor the all-too-brief shots of dennis christopher who was dreamycreamy back then, but is only on screen about 5 minutes. frankly, i found the two "heroes" to be a pair of self-centered religious zealots, and prigs to boot. and god, i loathe that vangelis music that played constantly for the decade after the movies release. my gawd, this thing beat "reds" for a best picture oscar?!?!? maybe i shall go back and take away the second star ...

    5-0 out of 5 stars Wide-Screen Finally!
Before this wide-screen edition of CHARIOTS OF FIRE was released, I was extremely reluctant to recommend buying this DVD. Now that it is out, and that the sound has been made crisper, there is nothing that should prevent anyone from buying this product.
5-0 out of 5 stars Chariots of Fire
What an amazing film! This is the story of a real olympics and the participants who represented Great Britain in track. The main characters are really well developed and include Abraham who is attending Cambridge University and besides being a stellar student of law has been graced with the ability to sprint. He is Hebrew in a Christian world son to a financier. He enrolls a coach named Mr. Masanbini who admits he can't put in what god left out but none the less agrees to train the young Ben.

5-0 out of 5 stars The definitive Asian masterpiece.
"Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" is one of those films that comes along once in a lifetime. It is a true cinematic masterpiece; in every sense of the word. Ziyi Zhang, Chow Yun Fat and Michelle Yeoh are simply awesome in this film. This is the film that started it all. Many great epic films have followed like: "House of Flying Daggers", "Hero", "Musa The Warrior", "Fearless", "Warriors of Heaven and Earth" and "The Legend of Suriyothai". From the awesome martial arts, to the love story, to the scenery, it doesn't get any better than this. Even the inspiration for this film, "A Touch of Zen", although awesome itself, can not compete with this historic film. MUST BUY!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars a simple story, but a beautiful movie
Now if you were to tell me that Ziyi Zhang was not a martial artist by trade before watching this movie, I would have never believed you.But when woo ping gets to do the action, he gets what he wants.
5-0 out of 5 stars Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Before I had seen "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" I had never seen any sort of martial arts movie and had only seen one film in a foreign lanugage with the original language spoken and subtitles. However, this film was so intreguing that I felt immediately absorbed.
