    Editorial Review

This big, fat theatrical bomb has a lot going for it. There's the three leads, Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker, playing three resurrected witches who wreak havoc on Salem, Massachusetts, 300 hundred years after they were hung. There's music, special effects, and magic. There's a surprisingly horror-filled plot. Whoops, hold up on that last one. It's probably the extremes that this film goes to (displaying a Disney label), such as the witches sucking the life out of a little girl in the first five minutes, that put the brakes on any success for Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun filled witchy romp!
I have loved this movie ever since my mom took me to see it in the theater when I was 6 years old. Ever since (even after I was allowed to watch actual scary halloween movies) this has been my very favorite movie to put in the DVD player, pop some popcorn and have fun.
5-0 out of 5 stars Favorite Holloween Movie

3-0 out of 5 stars In the end a very silly movie
The movie is visually stunning with some good one-liners. However, there are some real groaners. The movie makes one think about the role of government and the abuse of power. These are good ideas to ponder. The theme of ideas gives to one of the worse groaners. It went something like "Behind this mask is an idea and ideas are bulletproof." The other bad line if you stop and think about it is "It is the government that should be afraid of the people." What does that really mean? Respect the people, maybe. A government that fears the people gives rise to dictatorships and genocide.
5-0 out of 5 stars Remember, Remember....
Oh man. This is one of the best movies I have ever seen. I saw this in the theaters and felt like giving it a standing ovation afterwards. I bought this movie the day it came out on DVD and have watched it 5 times since then. This movie has superb acting, great action sequences, and an ending that will blow you away. Everyone I know who I've reccomended this movie to has loved it. Most people who didn't like it probobly couldn't understand it. I don't get why Republican people hate this movie so much. They only mention America like once in this movie, and I don't think it's just leftist propaganda, I think it's a wonderful film that makes you think. Great performance by Hugo Weaving and Nataile Portman. Two thumbs way up!

This was most definitely one of my favorite films of the year.Once I discovered the Wachowski brothers had written a script for, and were producing another film I had my hopes set very high.Being only person I know who thought the matrix sequel's were perfect - in spite of the opinion of critics, media, and other reviewers - I had my hopes set quite high.I was not disappointed. On the contrary, this movie exceeded my expectations.Like the graphic novel (which is also fantastic) this filmgrapples with philosophical and political issues such as "what is the government's responsibility to it's citizens?", and "can a terrorist be a hero?".Expect a much deeper film than other recent comic book / graphic novel adaptations recently released; while many of those are top-notch, this film shows you can have first class action without omitting a profound underlying message.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finding Nemo is a great "catch" for the whole family
Pixar Studios have done it again. I have to say that these guys are totally good in computer animation, as well as in storytelling. Rarely do those qualities come together but here they are, delivering unto the audience once again something that one can only be drowned with wonder. Such is the marvel of Finding Nemo.
5-0 out of 5 stars A really great movie!!!
I really loved this movie. I have watched it over and over again. I have never gotten sick of it. It makes me laugh and cry all in the same DVD. This movie is a must for all kids and adult kids too. Ellen's role is just great!!! It fits her to a tee. ... Read more

Throughout his long, wandering, often distinguished career Francis Ford Coppola has made many films that are good and fine, many more that are flawed but undeniably interesting, and a handful of duds that are worth viewing if only because his personality is so flagrantly absent. Yet he is and always shall be known as the man who directed the Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars I refuse the offer
What we have here is, basically, two, because who actually has seen or even likes the third, of the most overblown, overhyped and unjustifiably overrated American films of all time.
5-0 out of 5 stars Dark & Delightful
I enjoyed watching these movies so much, I wish I had bought the DVDs a long time ago. Its amazing to see how the Part-III was made 18 years after part-I was made and everything looks so continuous if you watch them together. There has been much speculation on how the events in The Godfather novel written by Mario Puzo, the book the film is based on, could be an exposé of true facts. Many believe that the character of Johnny Fontane , for instance, was based on Frank Sinatra's real life, and many of the other characters were modeled after real people. I won't go into that: frankly, I have no idea whether these voices are reliable, although the Frank Sinatra reference seems obviously quite believable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Really Wanted This!
We have enjoyed the Godfather saga ever since it first came out in the 1970s. A young Al Pacino made his mark in this movie and we think that it was one of the roles that enabled to go as far as he has. Also, as a part of our family is from New Jersey, the period scenes of Ellis Island and New York City lets us remember what it was like growing up in that time and lets our family's new generation learn about it too. We have had the collection on VHS for some time, but the opportunity to have it on DVD was too good to pass up. The price was excellent as well, considering that it's all the movies plus the fourth DVD with the behind the scenes stuff.

This gorgeous adaptation of Lucy Maud Montgomery's classic children's story is well worth watching with the whole family. Produced for Canadian television, it's one of those rare productions that actually sticks to the book and even enhances it through first-rate performances and an excellent script. 5-0 out of 5 stars I love this movie today as much as I loved it when I was 10....
I saw this movie for the first time when I was something like 10 years old, and immediately fell in love with Anne Shirley. I have now read everything by L.M. Montgomery that I can get my hands on, and am as big a fan as ever. This movie is a beautiful version of a beautiful book.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Way things should be
"Anne of Green Gables" shows how a combination of love, honesty, hard work, tolerance and integrity is the perfect mix for bringing out the best from the potential in anyone, even in a non-traditional family. It's an incredibly refreshing break from today's society, where lying and manipulation have become almost a norm in much of the world we know.

5-0 out of 5 stars Timeless Classic
All the great reviews written previously say it all - Anne of Green Gables the movie is a timeless classic of the classic novel. I've been watching this movie since I've been a child, and I still watch it as an adult. A movie like this doesn't need "special features" for it to be attractive as a DVD(Although the commentary is great!). 5-0 out of 5 stars A Tale As Old As Time Done Right
Beauty and the Beast may well be the very best animated film Disney ever produced. The characterizations of the leads are great as we have the sweet book loving Belle and the the flawed but totally redeemable "Beast".Gaston and Belle's father are also well drawn and memorable as are the comic relief bearing "enchanted" servants at the castle. There's something for everyone as the story is so romantic it leaves a lot of grown up ladies sighing, the bad guys are not too scary for the little ones and for the rest it is just a great tale.Plus Beauty and the Beast has some of the best songs ever written for a Disney production. No wonder the Broadway musical hasbeen such a hit as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tied for first for best Disney feature
I must've been about 10 when I first saw the Lion King and I was practically floored. Those catchy-for-their-own-good songs, the animation(well, me now talking) and that wildebeast stampede. The other one is Beauty and the Beast which for the life of me I can't remember seeing when I was young yet loved every minute of it. Revisiting it now I still love it and on one hand seeing it as a landmark in Disney's catalogue but also one in a series of films that marked a brief creative comeback.
2-0 out of 5 stars Beauty and the Beast
Yep, Disney animation. All my students see this movie at some point between leaving high school and when I meet them as university students. Sometimes, their Chinese university teachers show it to them in class. So, I thought I'd see why they love it so much. I'm still wondering. This is a two-page short story, not a film. But on the bright side, if you skip all the songs it's under an hour. I've never enjoyed a singing toon in my life. ... Read more

Oh, Anakin, Anakin...How I love thee, let me count the ways.....
5-0 out of 5 stars Will people ever stop complaining? As Vader would now say..."NOOOoooooOOOOoooo".
Let's get something straight- I am a Star Wars geek. For a few years, I practically lived for the series. When Episode I came around, my heart broke, and I became a more casual fan, but with tons of knowledge that the typical sane person shouldn't know about the characters and worlds. Like millions of others, Episodes I and II disappointed me beyond anything. George Lucas should've let someone else do the writing, and could've used a tad less CG in favor of real things. In fact, in my own little world, I like to believe that there were never prequels to Episodes IV, V and VI. Episode III here was supposed to be THE Star Wars to end all Star Warses (forgive that ridiculous just-made-up-word there). I saw it in theaters, and loved it. It was what Episodes I and II should've been. But upon a second viewing, not so much. Originally, I gave Episode III 4.5 stars. Now, it's more like just barely 3. That's not to say that casual fans won't enjoy it- they'll probably get more out of this one than the past two. I think a lot of it has to do with the hype of it being the final movie being gone now. The saga is complete. Everything's all here to be watched in full. And just as the original trilogy, there are some parts that you notice not being as great as they were that first time you saw them.
1-0 out of 5 stars A failure in narrative, just like the rest of the prequel trilogy.
Well, here we are, the big one, the one that was supposed to blow them all away, the one that was supposed to be the meat and potatoes of the Star Wars prequel trilogy, the big downfall that turned Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) into Darth Vader. The final result is a bit... underwhelming.

    5-0 out of 5 stars A Newt?
One of my favorite comedies, and Monty Python's best and most irreverent movie is Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The Monty Python troop made three films and had a television series that challenged the status quo by dealing with religion, class welfare, politics and dead parrots. There humor seems as fresh and rebellious today as when it was aired. Sometimes their humor was forced -- some scenes in The Meaning of Lif(e) ; however, Monty Python and the Holy Grail has the perfect mix of antitoletarism, irreverence and silly sots.

4-0 out of 5 stars Star Wars, Episode 1, Phantom Menace.Review by: Adam Platts
Star Wars Episode I, The Phantom Menace, easily qualifies as one of the best science fiction movies of recent years. While I would give each movie in the original trilogy 5 stars, I could only give this one 4 stars because of its "moments" of bad acting and weak story line.Imagine how great this movie would have been if it had been combined with Episode 2, saving only the best from each, and trimming away the dull parts.Ideally we would have seen Anakin quickly growing up in one movie, being trained in the ways of the Jedi.Instead we got stuck with a little kid throughout the whole movie, and worse - Jar Jar Binks.Overall, though, I'm just glad that the Star Wars movies returned to the big screen.
4-0 out of 5 stars episode I : The Phantom Menace
I think people are being way too hard on this film. The main reason people don'tlike it is because they were expecting Lucas to just remake the original trilogy. What people do not understand is that this is an entirely differnt galaxy that we are in. The entire galaxy has been changed as e enter episode IV. People don't understand that it's a differnt age.

The film initiates with two small-time thieves, Honey Bunny and Pumpkin, who spontaneously decide to hold up a restaurant. The film then shifts to the story of Jules and Vincent, who are hitmen for the well-known and feared Marsellus Wallace, who is caught up in a deal gone wrong with struggling boxer Butch Coolidge.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Film And Terrific Writing!
"Pulp Fiction is not an overrated film, in fact it is an outstanding film. There are quite a few reviews here, therefore, I will be short. Having seen 'Resevoir Dogs' and liking it very much, I was really impressed with Tarantino's follow-up of "Pulp Fiction."One of the things I really liked about this film, to name just one, was the different offbeat characters that Tarantino put into the film. From John Travolta, [as Vinny the nutcase with a penchant for killing] to Samuel L. Jackson, as Travolta's stone cold killer partner; these two characters alone made the film terrific.

Yes!! "Fist Pump", no more crappy movies, if only he had stopped making them after Return of the Jedi.
1-0 out of 5 stars Why does Obi-Wan Kenobi look like Jesus Christ?
Picking up 10 years later, Anakin Skywalker is no longer an adorable if stoic little kid but now a tall, gangly, jerky young man (Hayden Christensen) with a tendency to whine and bitch about stuff for no apparent reason (takes things way too personally he does). Well, him and his master Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) are assigned to protect former queen turned senator Padme (Natalie Portman) after ten years apart from an assassin. This job eventually leads to Obi-Wan being separated from Anakin while he investigates the assassin who happens to be involved with a cloning conspiracy and this later leads him to a renegade Jedi master played by Christopher Lee. Guess what? Anakin still has the hots for Padme and whilst Obi-Wan is away Anakin would like nothing better than to strip her naked and get her in the sack. The future Darth Vader also has a nightmare about his mom's death back on Tatioone and he FINALLY goes to rescue her but by the time he gets there she's already dead so he goes and kills the cannibal Sand People who killed her.

Anyone offended or disgusted needs to get a grip and any losers seeking a tribute to those wonderful Gerry Anderson kid shows theye watched back in the 1960's need to climb back in their hole, take their bible, and go watch Davey and Goliath or something. The creators of South Park are proud to not belike those 60's kid shows, that was the point. Fans of South Park and fans of smart, ADULT humor will enjoy this.
2-0 out of 5 stars Could have been a great movie, but....
Team America had all the ingredients for a really great movie. By utilizing the Supermarionation-style puppetry and merging it with pop culture and political satire, it could have been the most original movie of the year. Unfortunately, Trey Parker and Matt Stone seem to be addicted to vulgarity, and the flurry of f-words in their theatrical films would have made Richard Pryor blush. The few clever satirical points they made were overshadowed by the foul language, graphic sex, and gratuitous violence that was peppered all over the film. I was particularly turned off by the ridiculously long puking scene, as well as the homosexual encounter between Gary and his boss.

5-0 out of 5 stars FILM NOIR AT ITS CREEPIEST BEST
We've seen it before. Based on an actual case, this Oscar-nominated gem tells the twisted tale of a scheming black widow (played by Barbara Stanwyck) who draws a smooth-talking insurance man (Fred MacMurray) into a wed of intrigue and murder. Their insurance scam goes awry, and the lovers turn against each other as their survival instincts kick in and the stakes get higher and higher. Lust and crime don't pay, and here, with a screenplay by Billy Wilder and Raymond Chandler, the pay-off is so downright hard-boiled criminal it's brilliant. Film noir just doesn't get more flawless
5-0 out of 5 stars Cheap wig for a cheap dame...
The grand daddy of them all.If you can get over the (intentionally) cheap wig worn by Barbara Stanwyck, there is no disputing this is one of the best of the Film Noir genre.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great DVD Treatment of One of Billy Wilder's Greatest Films!
The super deluxe 2-disc DVD edition of the 1944 film noir classic DOUBLE INDEMNITY (DI) rocks!Director/co-screenwriter Billy Wilder's flair with suspense and black humor works so perfectly with James M. Cain's novel about adulterous lovers plotting to murder the woman's husband and scam the man's insurance company, it even improves on the book. The dark tone and scandalous subject matter freaked out Hollywood so much that it took 9 years to get DI from the printed page to the big screen.Fred MacMurray was the only leading man in Hollywood with the guts to take the role of insurance salesman-turned-murderer Walter Neff, though even MacMurray needed convincing at first.None of the other in-demand male stars of the period wanted Barbara Stanwyck's conniving, money-loving, hubby-offing temptress Phyllis Dietrichson to make a chump out of him.Their loss!(I'd first seen MacMurray when I was a kid.Back then, he was best known to my generation as a Disney movie star and the lovable dad of TV's MY THREE SONS, so it was quite a revelation to me when I saw him playing underhanded types in DI, THE APARTMENT, and THE CAINE MUTINY.MacMurray had more range than he got credit for!)

Then there is genius that is right in front of our faces--we smile at the spell it puts us into and are refreshed, and nary a word needs to be spoken. Pleasent Donald demonstrated some good acting but I had a hard time telling him apart from that buttugly Jamie Lee Curtis.

    5-0 out of 5 stars Halloween...a classic.
When I was about 10 years old, I saw this movie for the first time at a friend's house when there was a sleepover. It was the scariest thing I have ever seen. Even since then, it has been my favorite horror movie or dare I say my favorite movie of all time? I think so. It's a classic. When I bought it on DVD i expected a bare bones edition with nothing besides the movie. I was wrong. I was shocked when I saw a documentary including interviews with John Carpenter, Debra Hill, Jamie Lee Curtis and P.J. Soles, among many others. I was pleasantly surprised at the director's commentary as well. I usually don't watch films with the commentary on because I find it ruins the film, but...I'm so fascinated with this film I had to see with. I highly recommened this film for anyone, horror fan or not. ... Read more

I saw this movie when I was 11, now I'm in my 30's and it still invokes wonder.I also have always loved the humor of this tale.I love seeing Fred Savage become interested in the story as his grandfather(Peter Falk) reads it to him.It makes me nostalgic because my own grandparents and parent read to me when I was sick.
5-0 out of 5 stars Rob Reiner's Best
"The Princess Bride" is 1 hour and 38 minutes of excellent entertainment. It is based on the book of the same name, which is worth checking out as well. The witty dialog and charm of the movie is no accident ... it comes straight from the book.
3-0 out of 5 stars Death Cannot Stop True Love. All It Can Do Is Delay It For A While.
The Princess Bride is a 1987 movie directed by Rob Reiner and adapted from the William Goldman novel of the matching title. The rom com fairy tale adventure was originally a modest box office success, but over the years it has generated something of a massive cult appeal.
