5-0 out of 5 stars Well done!

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this new edition
I am thrilled to get this 10th Anniversary edition and the book that comes with it as I am a great fan of this particular version of Pride & Prejudice.Only one thing disappointed me however .... I don't care for the way the discs are stored in the set. They are slid inbetween a cardboard envelope and it took alot of skill for me to get them out without feeling like I was scratching them up against the cardboard.I much rather prefer when the discs are easily snapped into a case as I feel they are better protected. Other than that, this is truly worth purchasing,if not for the book & bonus disc alone, which do not come with the 2-dvd original version.Buy it ... you won't be sorry!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great and true adaptation of an amazing novel.
I saw this when it first came out on the BBC. (I lived in England)I have to say it is one of those dramas that I will watch and watch and watch again.I love the characters and I think that the casting is one of the best. Jane Austen of course must be given the credit of a great story. But I commend the adaptation and staying true to the book.I read the novel after watching the film and was amazed by how well it stuck to the story.I love the settings and the views but I am an English country girl at heart so I would. But it is a true love story that can bring hope that we can all find our own Mr. Darcy. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, warm trip down memory lane!
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is a charming and playful Halloween story that adults and kids will love. Bing Crosby's smooth tones are the perfect accompaniment for this old-fashionied cartoon - perfect for snuggling under the covers on a dark, rainy night! I absolutely loved it as a 7-year-old kid and I am thrilled to share it with my little boy.

5-0 out of 5 stars The eleventh animated Disney masterpiece is a winner
I recently reviewed "Fun and Fancy Free," released just two years before this film.Walt Disney tried the same thing in that film that he did in this film; he combined two shorts into one release.Unfortunately, the technique did not work well in "Fun and Fancy Free."The technique worked very well in this feature.

    Editorial Review

When Julie Andrews sang "The hills are alive with the sound of music" from an Austrian mountaintop in 1965, the most beloved movie musical was born. To be sure, the adaptation of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II's Broadway hit has never been as universally acclaimed as, say, Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A all time great!
"You have brought music back into my home".This is a story about a man, who lost his wife, suffered loneliness, realized the value of his family and embraces his family once again in music and drama, and falls in love with a woman of great culture and life.
5-0 out of 5 stars BEAUTIFUL TRANSFER OF A PERFECT MOVIE
SOUND OF MUSIC 40th ANNIVERSARY EDITION (Fox) is the latest digital version of this beloved, timeless, film. The two-disc set features an exceptionally sharp transfer and a rich audio mix but the real treat is the new commentary with Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer (this in addition to the late Robert Wise's commentary).
5-0 out of 5 stars The Hills are alive
This musical details the life of a novice nun named Maria. There are people in the Nonburg Abbey in Salzburg that do not like her so the Reverend Mother sends her to take care of the seven children of a Widower Captain Georg Von Trapp.

DONT listen to that silly man " a viewer" He doesnt know a thing. You can watch this extrodinary film on DVD and reap the hearty rewards of laughter and happiness. Or you can watch a VHS and dial up the internet while you toast your snax on a fire. In other words....The dvd is far better then any old VHS. This DVD is the best. Just believe me. You will thank me later. And see Spamalot too.

With all the deadly serious movies about the grail out there these days it's good to once again watch a movie that treats the subject with a sense of humor.

One of my favorite comedies, and Monty Python's best and most irreverent movie is Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The Monty Python troop made three films and had a television series that challenged the status quo by dealing with religion, class welfare, politics and dead parrots. There humor seems as fresh and rebellious today as when it was aired. Sometimes their humor was forced -- some scenes in The Meaning of Lif(e) ; however, Monty Python and the Holy Grail has the perfect mix of antitoletarism, irreverence and silly sots.

The film initiates with two small-time thieves, Honey Bunny and Pumpkin, who spontaneously decide to hold up a restaurant. The film then shifts to the story of Jules and Vincent, who are hitmen for the well-known and feared Marsellus Wallace, who is caught up in a deal gone wrong with struggling boxer Butch Coolidge.

Yes a bit strange but I loved this movie! My boyfriend and my mom recommended Pulp Fiction to me and now I recommend it to you!I loved how it all fit together but was in like 5 different chapters.

"Pulp Fiction is not an overrated film, in fact it is an outstanding film. There are quite a few reviews here, therefore, I will be short. Having seen 'Resevoir Dogs' and liking it very much, I was really impressed with Tarantino's follow-up of "Pulp Fiction."One of the things I really liked about this film, to name just one, was the different offbeat characters that Tarantino put into the film. From John Travolta, [as Vinny the nutcase with a penchant for killing] to Samuel L. Jackson, as Travolta's stone cold killer partner; these two characters alone made the film terrific.

5-0 out of 5 stars Almost as wonderful as the first!
I love this movie almost as much as I love the first one! While not entirely true to the books, it does at least pull most of it stories from the books in one form or another. Whether or not the stories are pure L.M. Montgomery, this movie is true Anne. It's worth all five hours to get to the ending!

5-0 out of 5 stars Endearing Sequel
This is an impressive sequel and a very good looking follow-up to ANNE OF THE GREEN GABLES. It is great to see Megan Follows as Anne Shirley once again. Megan Follows is just perfect in this role. Anne Shirley is now a bit older, has become a teacher and is quite involved in a society away from her rural settings. This gradual progression of characters and story from this original is very welcome and enjoyable. It is very endearing in many ways as was the original

5-0 out of 5 stars Sumptuous Musical
"The Phantom of the Opera" may not be my new favorite movie, but it's certainly one of the most sensually appealing. It succeeds in being an appealing musical, romance, mystery, and period piece all at once.Everything in the movie is a treat for the eyes and the ears, from the rich period sets and costumes to the Andrew Lloyd Webber songs to the gorgeous cast members.
5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful
I love this movie! The scenes like the first one where it goes to color is beautiful. Of course, I'm very suprised about something: the fact that some adults don't even know why his hair changes when his mask is taken off!!(No offense to them). So, why does this happen? The black hair is a WIG!!! Look closely and you'll realize that before he goes out in that climatic scene, he checks his hair; correct me, WIG. When Christine takes off his mask, his hair literallycomes off as a WIG. I love the music, too, especially the phantom of the opera song (The phantom of the opera is there/inside my mind).Watch it!!!!! :-)

5-0 out of 5 stars Really not enough stars for this DVD
Someone, quite recently, as well as long ago, said that the film version of the musical was dead. If memory serves, they said it died with "Hello Dolly" or some such work. Anyone who believes that will need to watch "Phantom: on DVD.

Imaginatively rendered but slightly chilly, this 1951 Disney adaptation of the Lewis Carroll classic is also appropriately surreal. Alice (voiced by Kathryn Beaumont) has all the anticipated experiences: shrinking and growing, meeting the White Rabbit, having tea with the Mad Hatter, etc. Characterization is very strong, and the Disney team worked hard to bring screen personality to Carroll's eccentric creations. For a Disney film, however, it seems more the self-satisfied sum of its inventiveness than a truly engaging experience. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars FILM NOIR AT ITS CREEPIEST BEST
We've seen it before. Based on an actual case, this Oscar-nominated gem tells the twisted tale of a scheming black widow (played by Barbara Stanwyck) who draws a smooth-talking insurance man (Fred MacMurray) into a wed of intrigue and murder. Their insurance scam goes awry, and the lovers turn against each other as their survival instincts kick in and the stakes get higher and higher. Lust and crime don't pay, and here, with a screenplay by Billy Wilder and Raymond Chandler, the pay-off is so downright hard-boiled criminal it's brilliant. Film noir just doesn't get more flawless
5-0 out of 5 stars Cheap wig for a cheap dame...
The grand daddy of them all.If you can get over the (intentionally) cheap wig worn by Barbara Stanwyck, there is no disputing this is one of the best of the Film Noir genre.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great DVD Treatment of One of Billy Wilder's Greatest Films!
The super deluxe 2-disc DVD edition of the 1944 film noir classic DOUBLE INDEMNITY (DI) rocks!Director/co-screenwriter Billy Wilder's flair with suspense and black humor works so perfectly with James M. Cain's novel about adulterous lovers plotting to murder the woman's husband and scam the man's insurance company, it even improves on the book. The dark tone and scandalous subject matter freaked out Hollywood so much that it took 9 years to get DI from the printed page to the big screen.Fred MacMurray was the only leading man in Hollywood with the guts to take the role of insurance salesman-turned-murderer Walter Neff, though even MacMurray needed convincing at first.None of the other in-demand male stars of the period wanted Barbara Stanwyck's conniving, money-loving, hubby-offing temptress Phyllis Dietrichson to make a chump out of him.Their loss!(I'd first seen MacMurray when I was a kid.Back then, he was best known to my generation as a Disney movie star and the lovable dad of TV's MY THREE SONS, so it was quite a revelation to me when I saw him playing underhanded types in DI, THE APARTMENT, and THE CAINE MUTINY.MacMurray had more range than he got credit for!)

2-0 out of 5 stars Hard to get into.
I love Jane Austen's works, and Persuasion, for me, comes next in line after Pride and Prejudice.I think the story is more gentle and you really see a transformation in Anne. The movie, however, I just didn't like. The characters weren't portrayed well and I thought the movie was boring.Anne in the movie had pretty much the same look on her face the whole movie which drove me nuts. The guy who played Capt. Wentworth i thought was too angry most of the time.I really couldn't enjoy this film because I couldn't get over the bad acting.I'd love to see Persuasion redone with hopefully a better result. My advice: read the book and skip the movie.

1-0 out of 5 stars Nice idea, wooden acting

4-0 out of 5 stars A beautifully subtle and genuinely emotional film
This is clearly one of the most polarising of Jane Austen adaptations on film. Some viewers will love the genuinely moving acting, the authentically costumed characters, the beautiful scenery and sets, the incredible story-telling and the wonderfully subtle touches that abound in this film. Others will loathe the complete absence of makeup, the fact that Amanda Root is visibly older than 29, the slow and tender story, the use of natural lighting and the re-writing of the Mr Elliot sub-plot (including his unforgivably and casually cruel behaviour towards Mrs Smith).

Does this 25th anniversary edition have the scene when P.J. Soles' character Lynda comes over to Laurie's house to borrow the blouse?

1-0 out of 5 stars Boo!
It wasn't a bad movie except for all the killing. How about a nice movie where people just get along? Instead, this crazy michael myers guy runs around killing all the teenie weeners and ruins halloween for everyone. This character totally ruined the movie. Pleasent Donald demonstrated some good acting but I had a hard time telling him apart from that buttugly Jamie Lee Curtis.

    5-0 out of 5 stars Halloween...a classic.
When I was about 10 years old, I saw this movie for the first time at a friend's house when there was a sleepover. It was the scariest thing I have ever seen. Even since then, it has been my favorite horror movie or dare I say my favorite movie of all time? I think so. It's a classic. When I bought it on DVD i expected a bare bones edition with nothing besides the movie. I was wrong. I was shocked when I saw a documentary including interviews with John Carpenter, Debra Hill, Jamie Lee Curtis and P.J. Soles, among many others. I was pleasantly surprised at the director's commentary as well. I usually don't watch films with the commentary on because I find it ruins the film, but...I'm so fascinated with this film I had to see with. I highly recommened this film for anyone, horror fan or not. ... Read more

I saw this movie when I was 11, now I'm in my 30's and it still invokes wonder.I also have always loved the humor of this tale.I love seeing Fred Savage become interested in the story as his grandfather(Peter Falk) reads it to him.It makes me nostalgic because my own grandparents and parent read to me when I was sick.

"The Princess Bride" is 1 hour and 38 minutes of excellent entertainment. It is based on the book of the same name, which is worth checking out as well. The witty dialog and charm of the movie is no accident ... it comes straight from the book.
3-0 out of 5 stars Death Cannot Stop True Love. All It Can Do Is Delay It For A While.
The Princess Bride is a 1987 movie directed by Rob Reiner and adapted from the William Goldman novel of the matching title. The rom com fairy tale adventure was originally a modest box office success, but over the years it has generated something of a massive cult appeal.

5-0 out of 5 stars A new holiday classic
This movie is a suprisingly funny tale of Buddy, a human baby that accidently got into santa's bag at the orphanage, and ended up at the north pole.Santa had a softspot for babies, so Buddy (named after his diaper brand)was given to an Elf (bob newhart) to raise.Well, as buddy grew up, he was noticably different. After a series of disasterous attempted jobs at the north pole, the secret leaked out that buddy was a human. So papa elf share with buddy the secret of his origin. It was at that point Buddy decided to go on a mission in search of his human father (mother unfortunately passed away), played by james caan.We then follow Buddy to new york city at christmas time, in search of his day. Well from here, the story takes of, the adaptation of an Elf in the human world, let alone at christmas time.Let's just say he was suprised at "SANTA" when he showed up at the department store. The movie is funny, and fresh, with moments of drama and sadness, but overall wrapped in a happy, funny story that ends well for all.A great holiday movie, check it out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great
"Elf" was everything I hoped it would be. Will Ferrell does a great job as Buddy, the elf that wants to find his real dad and home. This will surely go down as one of the classic Christmas tales. Ed Asner makes a great Santa. The story itself is touching and not at one time boring. Somethings in the film are childish, but the movie is intended for children. Just the whole fish-out-of-water story, as someone said, is what makes the film. Buddy just can't seem to fit in anywhere, but he does make a lot of friends. Recommended!

3-0 out of 5 stars Equal. Very equal.
There are somes scenes i dislike and like. The scenes i like to laugh or fun about are scenes when baby Buddy crawls up to Santa's toy bag, when Buddy is able to help Santa to fix Santa's sleigh, and when he was talking to a little girl saying "I'm a human...raised by elves!" But those i didn't like were asking myself questions "WHY WOULD THEY MIX DIRT WITH CHRISTMAS?" If you don't get what i'm trying to say READ THIS: The dirt things are when he gets drunk with just syrup (even if it is sweet), and party likes a MANIAC! And also when he gets his father---a BRA! So, i don't think i like this 100% or hate this 100%. Parents should know this film from movie info websites before they are sure if this film is "okey-dokey" for their children. ... Read more

Is this a movie about hocus-pocus black-magic? How about Voodoo superstition? Pagan beliefs perhaps?
5-0 out of 5 stars one of the most complete movies I have ever seen...
The best adaptation of a Stephen King novel to date. Hollywood allowed this film to develope the various characters unlike most King adaptations.. There is a smoothness of this film, and a sadness as it nears its inevitable end, which holds the attention and completely disregards the 3+ hour length. Any who have seen it, will always remember it. Myself, I try to see the uplifting side, the hope the final monologue touts, but every time I watch this film, I feel the horrible sadness created by people wronging others with malice and hate. Something that does not belong in this world, but something this movie embraces.

Stellar performances from all of the cast. The story is compelling, and you really get to fall in love with Coffey, played by Michael Clarke Duncan, who is accused of a horror of a charge that he did not commit. This is one of those movies that may test your threshold for crying.Be sure to have some kleenex handy.Five stars for this fine title. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Not the MOST disgusting movie
Is it because I saw the uncorked version that I feel slimed -- or is it just because I am old? Maybe it's because looking at really a lot of naked breasts just isn't my idea of a great time at the movies. In any case, the lines that most moved me were the two or three times when one character gently upbraided another claiming youth for their hijinx: "We're just young guys having fun (or something like that)."The answer: "You're not that young" (and honestly it's not that fun -- most of us dread being guests at weddings).
3-0 out of 5 stars It was O.K.
The most surprising aspect of this film was that such a very average comedy could become such a huge box office hit. While the first hour had a few laughs, the second became bogged down in a sappy romance, and had me checking the "time remaining," on my DVD player. While it wasn't a bad movie, I saw a lot of wasted potential in it. The concept of wedding crashing is funny, I just wanted them to do more with it. For example, the main characters allude to attending a variety of ethnic weddings (Hindu, Chinese, etc.) but we aren't shown much. It would have worked better if they cut the romance a bit, and showed us more of the weddings. The extravagant lies one would have to tell and ensuing complications seem like they would be a rich source of comedy, but are never exploited. Also, Christopher Walken is a wonderful comedic actor (see him on Saturday Night Live as "The Continental" and the music producer for Blue Oyster Cult, to know what I mean), but his talents are wasted here in a humorless, straight role.

4-0 out of 5 stars This movie isn't smart. It isn't great. But it's "fun."
The opening sequence with Dwight Yokum and Rebecca De Mornay is one of the funniest in the film. The rest doesn't live quite up to it. The movie suffers from an improbability problem. I know from working weddings like some they went to, it's not easy to sneak into a wedding, especially high profile weddings with bouncers and giant men standing at the doors looking at your invite!

5-0 out of 5 stars Quite different from Volume 1 but also astonishing
The second part of Tarantino's martial arts epic is quite different from the first in many aspects. It begins with more revelations about what happened to the massacre at the small chapel and goes on with the revenge taken by the "bride". This time though the bad people have some nasty surprises for the heroine who faces the most desperating situation that you can imagine. I really enjoyed the flash-back to the heroine's training as a student of a cruel but wise Chinese master of martial arts and the fight with the one-eyed opponent had a very deserving and surprising finale. Bill has also some aces up in his sleeve but not the ultimate one which the "bride" applies in the end. A powerful and more philosophical film than Part One. The end is a triumph of love, as simple feelings of the kind that ordinary people experience, overcome and transform the highly trained killer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tragic Love Story
Despite all the violence, at its core, Kill Bill 2 is a love story. The Bride, played by Uma Thurman, is physically tortured during certain scenes in this movie. However, the emotional distress she experiences concerning her feelings for Bill is extraordinary. It is obvious she is deeply conflicted and confused. It is also apparent that The Bride and Bill share a deep bond despite attempts to kill each other. This is especially evident during her the last scene involving The Bride and Bill. This movie comes highly recommended. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Crash should be required in universities.
Crash is a transformative film. It's about how blind we are to our own predjudices. It's about living in a world where our lives and our assumptions about each other intersect, and yes, crash, and how we live and love and hurt and hate each other--and ourselves.
5-0 out of 5 stars crash was definitely a great film
The negative reviews about crash is mostly non-sense. Crash is one of the best films produced by Hollywood in the last 10 years. I just viewed it for the second time and the movie still felt very intense. The message is simple and clear. No one can judge another human being. Everyone has good and bad. Both qualities will be shown throughout one's life. And racism is so much more than color of our skin. The movie shows that even a mother can be a racist toward her own children. I thought the film dealt with that truth very well. If a person watches this film and learns nothing or feels nothing, that is pretty sad.

5-0 out of 5 stars I like this movie because...
This is a great movie and I like it because it's realistic. Not because of the storyline, but because of the diverse cast. There are too many movies and TV shows out there where everyone is Caucasian. That is not representative of America.Americans come in all shapes and sizes and colors.I know the entertainment industry has acknowledged the general lack of "minorities" in major roles, but they don't really seem to do anything about it.I guess that's because there's not a political will to do anything about it.It's just almost funny to watch a movie that takes place in a city like L.A., New York or Chicago where everyone is white. That's just not how things are.
