5-0 out of 5 stars A Cool sports comedy with Love and Camaraderie
This is indeed a wholesome family entertainment which I enjoyed really most.Little Giants would have a chance because of their camaraderie and oneness.I really feel that the cast is superb like Shawna Waldron (Becky O'Shea), Devon Sawa (Junior Floyd), and Sam Horrigan (Spike). This is a movie I would recommend to anyone. It is a cute movie and provides many lessons for kids as they grow to become adults.A lesson of friendship, respect, love, adventure, sportsmanship, wit, etc. All in one movie which I learn to love it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Refreshing family entertainment!
Man I never thought those Little Giants would have a chance! I really feel that the cast is superb, even if actors/actresses such as Shawna Waldron (Becky O'Shea), Devon Sawa (Junior Floyd), and Sam Horrigan (Spike) appear to be too old for Pop Warner League football (but each plays his/her part magnificently!). With that aside, this is a movie I would recommend to anyone. It is a cute movie and provides many lessons for kids as they grow to become adults. Great cameos by Madden, Entman, Smith, Brown, and Smith from the NFL!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great show for kids
We watched this movie and The Mighty Ducks this weekend and both have similar story themes about the under-dogs and both are great movies for kids. Worth while renting or buying. We rented it. ... Read more

Editorial Review

This effects-heavy, 1994 remake of the1951 film starring Janet Leigh and Keenan Wynn is all computer-generated pizzazz, with none of the charm or imagination of the original. Aimed squarely at children this time, the story focuses on a boy who gets some divine intervention on behalf of his favorite ball club. Christopher Lloyd plays the head angel, and Danny Glover is good as the team's manager, but the real star of the film--for better or worse--is the software that makes a glowing, celestial presence on the field seem real. --Tom Keogh ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great baseball movie
I have seen this movie several times and never get tired of it. The acting in the movie is great and the story is cool too.

Roger and JP are two children who live in a foster-home with a kind woman name Maggie. Roger and JP are in love with baseball and the local Anaheim Angels who play only a few blocks from their home. They sneak into every game that they are able to, to watch their beloved team. Roger, however feels sad quite often because he wants to be back with his troubled father. His father made a deal with him that he'd be back to pick him up if the Angels ever won the pennant. During one game Roger see's angels in the outfield helping a player making a catch, and at the plate, helping them hit. But nobody else can see them, not even JP. After they tell the manager about this he has Roger motions to him whenever he sees the angels. Then the Angels start winning after starting off the season very slow. With the help of the angels that Roger sees they win the pennant. Roger gets very sad because he will have to leave Maggie and JP, but his troubled father never comes to pick him up which breaks his heart.

If you are looking for a great, funny baseball movie with a fantasy twist you should check out Angels in the Outfield.

3-0 out of 5 stars Uplifting Family Movie
I have heard many people say that this version of "Angels in the Outfield" is vastly inferior to the original 1954 movie. Well, if that's the case, the original must have been pretty darn spectacular, because this movie is very well-done. Roger and J.P. are foster children living under the temporary care of a kind woman named Maggie. Roger is the main character. His mother is dead, and his troubled father rarely visits, even when he promises to. One day, however, his father jokingly says that they have as much chance of being a family again as the last-place California Angels (now the Anaheim Angels) have to win the pennant. Roger takes this statement at face value and prays for heavenly help, which soon arrives in the form of angels who actually come onto the playing field to assist the team. This begins a wonderful summer in which the players, along with their disgruntled manager, start to believe in themselves and find the value of teamwork and courage. Although this is a good film for the entire family (only some very mild profanity and the awkward parent scenes are carried out appropriately), there are several issues that will not be missed by knowledgable (older) viewers. For example, the potential for racial trouble involving the manager and the two boys at the end of the film (I don't want to give it away!) is completely skipped over, although it is a very likely scenario. Although, it is a Disney movie, so everything is supposed to be too good to be true! Overall, "Angels in the Outfield" is an emotional, although sometimes unbelievable, story with a good message.

5-0 out of 5 stars Disney at it's best
A spiritual film is what you could name it.Angels really have a presence on the field. They affect how the Basball Team the Angels play. They can help make dazzling catches and hits.Sounds unbelievedle. It is! To better understand the film you have to have imganination.A Christian know Angels do exsict So it's easy for them to not be cynical.Now..I know Angels don't do all those crazy stunts. But it's a very touching moment when Danny Glover the Angel informs his mystic friend Roger,A boy whose father left him, that one of the teamates is going to die and become a basball angel. He knows this six monthes before it happens. It really helps a person to think about divinity. As the foster mother says, players often pray before their big moment to God,so why are Angels running around so strange.Actually a thought provaking film Great for Families.(I heard a reviewer on Amazon critizes the boy Roger for believing his father will take him back if the Angels win the Penent.Geez,He's a child, clinging onto a lost hope. One in despair will ask for the impossible. And the Impossible happened.Just not the way Roger expected! ... Editorial Review

This Billy Crystal vehicle suffers from too much sentimentality that competes with the outrageous physical comedy, but still manages to be funny enough to be worth a look. Crystal plays a shallow sports agent on tour in Eastern Europe, smarting from the separation from his wife and kid, when he literally crashes into a discovery that might resurrect his career. He finds a giant in a rural town (NBA Basketball player Gheorghe Muresan) and takes him back to America in the hopes of exploiting his find, but soon discovers that loyalty and being true to the things that are important to him are what really matters. It's the physical comedy and the contrast between the titanic Muresan and the diminutive Crystal that sustains the movie beyond its premise. Crystal's personality and Muresan's genuine nature make My Giant rise above its gimmicky nature. --Robert Lane ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars ...
After reading the reviews, I had to respond. I really enjoyed this movie. A lot of people seem to be missing the entire point of the movie (as well as the storyline). Apparently a movie with Billy Crystal must be all hilarity and no poignancy for people to enjoy it.

Maybe advertising is to blame, but I was lucky enough to not hear much about it when it was released. With no expectations in mind, I thought the movie was great -- and Billy Crystal does a decent job taking on a dramatic role. Muresan does surprisingly well with his role as well, concidering the horrible screen talents of other famous-sports-players-put-in-movie types. I would recommend this to anyone...as long as they don't expect Crystal in a stand-up-comedic routine.

1-0 out of 5 stars Billy Crystal at his worst!
I love Billy Crystal! But I hated this movie! I will always hate it! How does a man so talented as a comedian go do a drama and expect to excell? It was a poor attempt at a movie!

3-0 out of 5 stars Underrated comedy-drama
I think this movie suffered from a misleading ad campaign which made it look like a slapstick comedy. It's not.

It's adult comedy-drama, and a pretty good one. Crystal, the ultimate cynic, slowly becomes best friends with his giant, the ultimate innocent. And there are actually a fair amount of laughs along the way.

It helps to know that this picture was inspired by the late Andre the Giant, who worked with Crystal on "The Princess Bride." Giants' lives are never easy, and that's why this picture has to be serious as well as fun.

I have the feeling this picture may play better on video. If you like funny-sad pictures, check it out. ... Read more

Editorial Review

When it's revved up to maximum rpm's, Biker Boyz qualifies as an adequate knockoff of The Fast and the Furious. Both films were inspired by magazine articles about speed-freak outlaws on the streets of California, only this time the nitrous-enhanced "rice rockets" are of the two-wheeled variety, and Smoke (Laurence Fishburne) is the reigning "King of Cali," leading a predominantly African American subculture that schedules illegal motorcycle races with high stakes and potentially lethal outcomes. Kid (Derek Luke, the promising newcomer from Antwone Fisher) is the latest challenger, facing off against Dogg (Kid Rock) and others before coming to terms with his own familial destiny. Following his incisive HBO debut, Dancing in September, director Reggie Rock Bythewood approached Biker Boyz as a modern Western, but it's really just a strutter's ball with polished chrome and tailpipes. Meagan Good, Lisa Bonet, and Vanessa Bell Calloway provide sexy feminine wisdom, badly needed in a movie that's all flash and precious little substance. --Jeff Shannon ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but Could Have Been More Original
"Biker Boyz" was a pretty good movie in that the motorcycle racing scenes were very captivating. It's obviously just like "The Fast and the Furious" except motorcycles are used instead of cars. Some may say that the plot was sort of thin and unoriginal, but in some aspects it was very interesting. There were a few suprises in there that dropped my jaw, but overall I would say that this is a cool movie to watch that doesn't make you think too hard. It is quite entertaining and the performances by Laurence Fishburne, Derek Luke, Lisa Bonet, Brendan Fehr, and Larenz Tate were really good. Even Kid Rock did a good job!

I would suggest this film to people who liked "The Fast and the Furious." They're the same type of exciting action-packed dramas.

3-0 out of 5 stars movie could have been better
The movie could have been better if there was more races, and stunts. I dindnt like the fact that they had put all the love scenes. They should have stuck with more races and stunts. I am a motorcycle enthusiast and have an 03 Cbr F4i. I could have made a better movie with my video camera at bike nights here in los angeles. The cast played the characters well in the movie. I rate the movie poor but enjoy watching the motorcycle scenes

1-0 out of 5 stars Fast & Furious Wannabe
It never fails. Every time a movie ( like Fast and Furious ) becomes a surprise hit you get a load of copycats. Will Hollywood ever learn? Please! Save yourself and don't even think of watching this mess. This film has the intelligence of a dead dog and the excitement of Sesame Street. With good actors like Larry Fishburne, Vanessa Bell Calloway and Larenz Tate I expected more. Well, no I didn't but I didn't think this film would suck this much. How can something with so much glitz be so boring? The guy who plays Larry's son is an actor who's popped out of nowhere and wasn't terribly impressive. He's good looking but he didn't fit the role. I recommend anyone against this unless you want to see cute guys on bikes. Other than that there is nothing to see this for. ... Read more

Editorial Review

At a time when theaters were clogged with insipid romantic comedies fora predominantly white audience, Deliver Us from Eva offered a smart andsassy alternative. It's another variation of Shakespeare's Taming of theShrew, beginning when Ray (James Todd Smith, a.k.a. LL Cool J) accepts a$5,000 challenge to seduce Eva (Gabrielle Union), an alleged man-hater whodominates her three sisters and the men in their lives, who are desperate to be"delivered from Eva." It's a sitcom plot from start to finish, with no realsurprises. What lifts Eva from its potential doldrums is the sensiblenegotiations that emerge between the would-be lovers, and a sharp screenplaythat allows Ray and Eva to arrive at a mutual understanding that's richer andmore mature than most comedies would bother to allow. By giving its charactersan opportunity to show their truly attractive colors, Eva is delivered tous, claws retracted, and ready for love. --Jeff Shannon ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Very good most of the way, but falls flat at the end
"Deliver Us From Eva" is an amusing comedy about a family of sisters, and the men who they are with. Two of the sister's are married, one has a boyfriend, and the other.....is Eva(Gabrielle Union). Eva is a hard nosed, don't take anything from anyone, especially men, person. Not only that, she basically controls the lives of her three sisters. This does not sit to well with their men. All the men really want is to get Eva out of their hair so they can live happily with their wives. It'll take a pro to do the job. That's where player Ray(LL Cool J) comes in.

This is suprisingly a very amusing film. I went into the movie with rather low expectations. However, the film is very satisfying, except for the formulaic ending. One thing that works for the film, is they loveable, and attractive characters.
Everyone is likeable, and it's a joy to watch these people talk.

The film and dialouge gets a little goofy in some spots, but all around the film is pretty funny. I found myself smiling alot, and chuckling as well.

The performances are also good. Gabrielle Union plays Eva well, even though at times she tends to overact. LL Cool J also is good as Ray, and he has a certain charm about him that I've never really noticed before.

At the end, things get a little crazy, and at times stupid, but the overall effect of the movie is positive. "Deliver Us From Eva" provides a good time, but not much more than that.

5-0 out of 5 stars Eva's Just like me!
Eva's in people's business because she has no business of her own. I am the same way, however in my defense, a lot of people come to me for advice before I get into their business. This movie is good for a couple reasons, first my girl Gabby Union comes through representing like she always does in her little roles, but on top of that it shows the unity of sisters. I love that probably because i dont' have any sisters and I always missed that. But it was nice to see that love between the 4. My disappointment was at the end and when LL Cool J's body wasn't comin thru like it should on the little simi nude scene. What the hell was the gut about? disappointment. The end just was silly. How can everyone accept that they made it like he died. Who would just be cool with a fake funeral and all that? Someone would get murdered if it was me, but i guess that's just me. try the movie out though

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVED THIS MOVIE!!!!
What more is there to say? The movie was GREAT. LL was wonderful, Gabrielle Union was fabulous, and the supporting cast was simply over the top. Loved the storyline---that of 4 sisters whose closeness and allegiance to the oldest (Gabrielle Union) drives their husbands/boyfriends crazy. So they employ Raymond (LL), resident mac daddy, to woo Eva and get her out of their hair. But the whole scheme backfires when Raymond develops genuine feelings for the sister from hell....and subsequently wants to "come clean."

This movie will have you laughing from beginning to end...you'll shed a few tears, and ultimately cheer loudly for true love to prevail.
